Yeah, make sure you have the latest drivers, as usual.
As far as rates go, check the FAQ. It's one of the first entries.

i have the *latest* drivers, but ive seen ppl who use old/specialized drivers that are better for CS. Or maybe even special programs that integrate with your video card in order to enhance its performance.

In regards to teh rates, I read the entry, and still having issues. It is kind of frustrating because i put a LOT of money into my new computer, and to have this happen is a piss-off.

check your bois to make sure there aren't any bottlenecks
- set agp size apeture size as close to 256 MB as possible (this setting should be half of your system ram)
- make sure that the agp slot is running at whatever your motherboard supports (4x/8x)

wow Tenchi... i knew there was someone with some leet suggestions i'd never think of. ofcourse, that does mean i don't know how to mess with my bio's... do u have any rough/quick pointers in how to do this, im not that nub so with basic instruction i could probably do this.. just need to be headed in the right direction.

The BIOS (basic input/output system) is accessible only before you boot into windows. Restart your computer and look around for a "PUSH [BUTTON] TO ENTER SETUP" or "HIT [BUTTON] FOR BIOS" message. The standard ones are F1, F2, F12, or DEL. If I can't find the message (they are sometimes hidden by the pretty manufacturer pictures) I just tap all 4 of those keys repeatedly until either I get into the BIOS or Windows starts and I have to do it again.

Remember, fucking up your BIOS can... well, fuck up your machine. We obviously take no responsibility for that. Tweak wisely.

I had a similar problem, all be it on a slower machine and I found that in XP the O/s automatically sets the refresh rate to 60hz when you try to run any games applications (or that's how I translated it).

I downloaded Reforce from :
ftp://thecpl.com

Check first that your monitor has the ability, and then set your the refresh rate for the resolution that you are using to 85hz.

Then do the same for your monitor in the advanced window of display settings.

It worked for me and you never know it could work for you!

kind regards

Once you find that, you should see "AGP" you'll know it, it'll say either 4x or 8x, if it says 8x leave it, if it doesn't change it to 8 if your MB can handle it.
