So why are there so many 12 year olds? Parents should be ashamed of themselves! What is the world coming to? And for the kid who killed himself over the Everquest game, I hold the parents responsible for his actions - especially if he had mental problems.

it shouldnt be ma17, because it's not fair to the deligent 17 and younger crowd that isn't crazy, and have good parents. You can't punish a whole group just because of a few people.

It wasn't a kid that killed himself, it was a grown man, I think he was 24. Or something. But it got so bad to where he would steal his parents credit card just so he could pay for his subscription. And he would get fired from many jobs becuase he never showed up. His mom runs a website, I think it's called Mothers Against Online Gaming or something.

You know, it's only the US that has any age rating on Half-Life/CS as far as I know. At least here in the UK, I'm looking at my copy right now and there are no age ratings on it bar the 'suggested for 15+ only' rating, but those have no actual legal power anyway, it's just a suggestion. Frankly I don't see why Half-Life or CS should ahve nay rating at all, they're not that violent (at least not in a realistic mannor), there's not all that much blood and gore, there's basically no swearing in the games themselves and legally speaking a game can't be rated based on what it's players are like (hence why a lot of games warn that 'game experiance may change while playing online', meaning you're gonna get a lot of foul-mouthed 13 year olds).

everquest is like crack to some people... cs and other games are addictive, but not to the point where you'll steal just to play it...

I hate that....
and CS is fairly realistic as far as i'm concerned

CS is addictive as in kids play the game for more than 6 hours a day - and that's probably the majority. I would hate to do research on kids who spend their time with online gaming and how badly it hurts their social skills :( As for adults (People 17 and older) - yeah its fun but we have more important stuff to do (like have sex and smoke crack)
And am I a soccer mom - if you mean that I am not going to let my kid shut himself in his room all day to play a video game then yes, I guess I would be considered a "soccer mom."
And yes I do play CS - but I can't stand playing it for more than 20min. (Usually to waste time in the morning before I go to school)

at least with cs you dont need to pay after you get the cd key itself, evercrack is a monthly thing, and cs can hurt grades, if you let it

your all morons, well most of you.
You all (most) assume any person pre-pubescent is a complete and udder moron who has no skills in thinking. I know plenty of 20+ year olds who call people "f4gget nub". As for CS being realistic, why do you lie so much?
what CT team would carry around a DEAGLE?! And nonetheless a SILVER ONE
you might as well dress in bright pink and scream a lot. Also if you just off a building and have 1 hp left your legs WOULD be broken, and AWP shots to the leg would blow your leg off rendering you incapacitated and therefore "dead". And hearing that the UK doesn't have restrictions on what game kids can buy, seems awesome. Here in the US everyone is so politically correct, oh no that game has violence and blood this will turn our kids into horrible monsters who buy guns and run around shooting each other! No, they wont its just a game and really if you are so concerned about a kid wasting his life, why did you buy a TV or computer both are a TOTAL waste of time above the news.

Actually, it's more like this. "We (the government) have to control what is suitable for kids because the parents aren't doing their jobs."

[some other crap which I can't be arsed to quote properly]Dude, nobody (bar one person) thinks CS is 'realistic'. And even when some people do say it's 'realistic', all they mean is it looks realistic. As for the age thing, that's not proof that 20+ can be morons too, that's just proof that they can be just as equally homophobic and sexually insecure.

I don't think it's fair not to allow younger people to play the game.
What is really needed, is another distraction. Kids spend too much time on the computer playing games, when they could be out in the park doing some physical education and not being spoiled by their parents.
When I was younger, I couldn't care less about computers and games.
I only started playing when I was about 15/16. And I didn't play much and still don't.
But I can't see the problem of kids playing once in a while, so the age rating is utter waste.

dont want your kids playing CS? dont give them a PC and broadband connection in thier room.
Mobius?

No, the kid was ~15, had epilepsy and schitzophenia, and had seizures all the time when he played games. His mom bought him the subscription and let him play 12+ hours a day so he wouldn't bother her.
Then he killed himself.
Saddest story of neglect ever told.

The real addicting comes when you start joining leagues and clans... you start to dedicate more time more time to your online buddies, rather than to your friends, family, and social life. That's why i've stopped CS all together, until december break, where I can play as much as i want, because i won't be busy.
... so really, it's a matter of self control. If you can't control your playing habbits, then don't bother to even play ANY video game. ESPECIALLY online ones. Parents really need to start limiting their kid's playing time, if their kid's won't limit it themselves. Now that I think about it, it's REDICULOUS to even think that some people playing 14 hours a day on games. The only exception to that is people like fatal1ty and other online people that try to support themselves by playing online games competitively, but even then you'll have to quit because you simply aren't making enough money.

I love teen suicides. The end result is that there is 1 less moron out there. It gets out of hand when they take people with them to Hell, though. I mean, if the kid was fucked up and crazy before games, playing a video game with a few red sprites spraying everywhere isn't going to make them much crazier.
Good riddance. Fucking lunatics deserved to die. Just don't take us along for the ride, okay?
Anyway, I'm really anti-censorship. Government censorship, that is. All they have to really do is keep porn out of ads. It's a parent's responsibility to censor and control their kids until they get up to the age of freedom. If you fail that, then you are a crappy parent. You deserve to burn in Hell, not your wacko kid who went off on a shooting spree because you bought him an nVidia 6800 with a copy of Doom 3 and told him how realistic it was. Actually, you both should die for being such stupid fucks.

Look, I only started interesting myself in pcs and games when I was about 15.
Do you actually think I was in any danger, when I was out playing? Because my parents are no lunatics and always let me out.
The thing is, as long as your not going anywhere remote (where there aren't any adults in sight, or places known to be dangerous) you're far better than at home, watching tv, surfing the web or playing video games.
Damn, it's so much better to play some sport with friends than sit on a chair playing a video game.
It's better for the development of the brain, the body and relationship with others.
I'm glad I had that kind of education.

Yeah! And drugs help to expand your mind! [Sometimes literally] But yeah, its a good point, if you do stay inside loads then you are a lot more likely to not do drugs etc but you are a hell of a lot more likely to end up looking like Gabe Newell...

I find it ridiculous how in North America nudity in the media is so taboo whereas violence seems to be alright. That duality I find to be very fascinating since nudity is natural and violence isn't. Of course you can argue that violence is natural, but in any case, I find it interesting that violence is so much more widely acceptable in games, movies and television than nudity and sex.
Oh, by the way, I'm Canadian, and yes, it's ridiculous, not 'rediculous'. It has nothing to do with being American or Canadian. It has to do with being a moron.
