Mic problem and gfx rendering problem

OK heres the deal for the mic:

I plug it in (i have checked multiple times that it works), make sure it's activated, checked that all the drivers are installed properly, etc. No sound comes out of it. It just dosent do anything. What's going on?

Secondly, whenever i try to run in opengl mode, cs closes and reopens saying "cannot support specified mode. will run game in software mode"

What's wrong?

My system:

Athlon 64 3000+
512 meg ram
80 gig hd
Gigabyte k8ns pro mobo
Nvidia geforce fx 5200 (temporary until i get an x800)

Nvidia geforce fx 5200 (temporary until i get an x800)For the mic, make sure it's set up properly in your Sound settings on the Control Panel. i.e. volume is up, mute is off, etc.

For OpenGL, make sure you get the drivers for your gfx card from the company that makes them (ati.com or nvidia.com), and not Windows Update.

Do you get the mic symbol coming up on your screen? If not, it is not bound to a key in CS...if it is, you may have your mic volume muted or too low for others to hear. Otherwise, that's an odd one.
Secondly, is it possible your settings for opengl are beyond the reach of your hardware? Your gfx card is not that hot, so perhaps if you have some settings in the advanced options for your graphics card in opengl that are not supported, it won't run. Try defaulting your graphics options to see if that helps.
Sorry if this is no help, these are not problems if I have really had to deal with before.
