A new update for Counter-Strike 1.6 and Condition Zero was released tonight. The majority of the update focuses on server-side fixes, but there was a singular client-side fix.

Counter-Strike and Condition Zero

• Prevent Russian Walking exploit

Server changes
• Fixed players being kicked from servers with an INVALID_STEAM_TICKET rejection
• Added a message to the server console to show when the server has reconnected to Steam
• Made map name and other variables reported by the server stay more current
• Fixed mp_timeleft not updating in server rules (or any unlogged cvar for that matter)
• Show HLTV being connected in the player count for pings
• Fixed HLTV staying in players list even after disconnect
• Fixed server hang when a user connects with a specially crafted info string
• Fixed occasional crash under Linux on startup for SMP machines (Linux)
• Cleaned up hlds_run script (Linux)
Once again, an update was released for Counter-Strike and Condition Zero. Feel free to take a moment to pick your jaw up off of the floor.

There is a lot of outcry after this update due to the fact that now when you jump while standing still it makes the jumping noise. Also there are still ways to Russian Walk/Silent Run. The way I do it still works fine. Hopefully they decide to remove the jump noise as it will ruin some competitive gaming strats (boosting without making noise etc.). On the other hand at least it seems the "INVALID_STEAM_TICKET" problem is fixed.

Yeah, but it's the CS community. The community complains about EVERY update, so I'm honestly not surprised at all.

I had to rub my eyes twice to the title "CS 1.6 and CZ update released."

Come on, Zips. Have you tried the game after this update? Do you really think that adding a sound when you jump while standing still is good? There are hundreds of posts and threads in the forums already. EVERY ONE wants it changed back. If you disagree, then you are the only one so far. It completely ruins competitive play. You can't sneak on top of boxes or boost anyone anymore, because it makes noise! You can't be tactical anymore. All you can do now is play aggressively.

Really? Hundreds of posts? WOE IS VALVE! Hundreds of posts, many of which I'm sure are from the same few, and even if it weren't there's still the simple fact that there are literally tens of thousands of CS players playing at any given time.

Gamers need to just get over it and deal with the changes.

I just saw a thread in the SUF CS forum. It's laughable at how insanely stupid some of the CS players are being. The game is now apparently "broken" because of a simple sound that plays when jumping, and has thus ruined some of their competitive matches. Ohhh noooo!

Well, maybe you haven't seen the newest thread yet made by Goshawk the moderator, where that sound that plays when jumping is actually specified as a bug. So in all likelihood, it will be fixed in the next update.

I think that Valve was just trying to fix the Russian Walk (or silent run), and this is just an accident. And I think it's good that they are trying to fix the silent run.

Heh, I'm looking at his thread right now. Steam mods are not Valve employees. Unless Valve comes out and says that it's a bug, then for the time being it's not a bug. It could very well be an intentional design change.

It's sure as hell not something that everyone should cry home about as some of them are doing on the Steam forums. It doesn't "break" the game, it just changes things slightly.

It does change things slightly. I for one hope it gets put back even though I haven't played in a little while (seriously, computer overheats while playing 1.6?!?! That is just sad). IMO after some time games shouldn't really get design changes, they should just get changes that fix issues such as the crouch-run/silent-walk whatever you call it.

Try deleting the clientregistry.blob file and starting Steam again. Most on the HLDS mailing list said they are seeing fewer drops due to this. Something seems a bit more jacked up on your end than anything.
