Both cards are nearly the same money, but I'm unsure of which would run BF2 better...here are the two cards:
ATI Radeon X800XL 512MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102548
ATI Radeon X850XT 256MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102483
Any help/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

X850XT. I have the X850XT PE, and I can tell you that it is a great card.

But the X800XL will still run BF2 very well, and for less money, but if money isnt an issue... go for the X850XT

Clicking the links will reveal that there is only $10 between them and I think that X800XL is very overpriced which is why I recommended the X850XT since it is much faster too.

I ment to say a 256mb X800XL... 512mb is overkill right now.

Even with BF2 out there, games are nowhere near needing 512MB of VRAM. I have an x800 XL, but thats only because I didn't have the money for the x850 XT so I would recommend going for that.

If you're talking about the X800XL 256mb instead, it's 250 bucks on newegg.com, which means it's 130 bucks cheaper, it doesn't really matter, but i think you should go for a 7800GT, cause it's only 30 bucks more than the X850XT, and it's much better, and no don't flame me, i'm anything but a nvidia fanboy, i'm more of an ATi fanboy, IMO the R520 will own the 7800GTX (and i said IMO, so don't flame me.

Um, if you got a FX 5200 you either have AGP or PCI, if you have PCI, buy a whole new computer, if you have AGP you have hope, to have hope you should have at least 1GB of mem, and at least a 2.8ghz or 2800+ processor, if you don't, buy a new comp. A good card that's cheap is a 6600GT, it shuld run at least medium, a good deal for running high would be 6800GT or X800XL.

thats why i put lol

any card that has 512MB of ram is a rip-off. It dosen't give any performance increase as of now. In the future when games support 512MB cards then you'll see an improvement, by then any card you buy now will be horribly obsolete.
(oh, and get the 850XT :))

yeah my card has a AGP 8x bus and my comp is a P4 3.0 ghz w/ 1 gig of ram. I was looking at some of the nvidia cards including the 6800 ultra and comparing it to the 6600 series. There is an obvious difference between the two. How much of a difference is it during gameplay (especially in bf2 :D)? Also, how much of a difference is there between the 6800 ultra and the 6800 gt. There is also a second option that i could choose. I could also beg my parents for a 7800 gtx.:D

Get on your knees...lol. The 7800 would be sweet, but I don't think it comes in AGP. You can overclock those 6800's, if you're into that thing. Otherwise the Ultra is better than the gt and both will smoke a 6600.

I just went and ordered a new X850XT on my lunch break due to the discussions and input in this thread. Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions and info. It's been on my mind a lot lately which card to get but I've never been able to actually make a concrete decision until today.

What is the difference between agp 8x, agp 16x, and pci?

Thank you all for the input. Clearly the X850XT is the better of the two. Now how about comparing the X850XT ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102483 ) With the GeForce 7800GT( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150108 ). Both are the same price...which would you guys prefer?

Well, i'm mostly an ATI fanboy since i just prefer their cards, but i still can't substitute for raw facts. the 7800GT will outperform the X850 XTPE, cause it has 20 pipelines, which means 25% better performance if all the other stuff like clock speeds are the same. I just want to see what ATi can do about their new series of vid cards, cause they got 2 extra months, i'm not even sure when they're to release it.
