So I just bought my new computer. Brought it home and proceded to put BF2 on it. I was so excited to see it on my new machine and my new wide screen monitor. Well when I went to start it up the screen flickered black, showed the desktop, flickered black, showed the desktop and then black one more time before just staying at desktop. So I've tried everything in the faq and searched the forums a bit but nothing is working. I tried the widescreen fix, I even tried using my old monitor. The same thing happens. I changed the names of the videos. Same thing happened. I downloaded new directX. The same thing. I deleted the game twice and reinstalled. Once deleting the registery files. The same thing happened after both times.
I have a Radeonx1600 pro, is there combatibility issues?

Change the default profile back to 800x600.
My documents\battlefield 2\
Can't remeber off the top of my head, but it's in there someplace.

Ya i tried something like that. I moved the whole BF2 file out of my documents so it would create another. That didnt work. I cant seem to find a place that i can change the resolution to 800x600. A little clarification would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had the same issue when I went from a crt to lcd. CRT was 1600 x 1200, lcd max with 1280 x 1040. Would always get black screen when starting game. I went into a video.con file on the default profile and changed the resolution 800 x 600. I read somewhere that the default profile has to be this or the game won't launch, you'll get the black screen.
Launching/Loading Issues: The most common problem with BF2 is that the game crashes to desktop or goes to a black screen when you first launch it. The reason for this is either incompatible hardware (make sure you meet all the minimum specs), or more usually the fact that you're not running at the default Windows XP refresh rate (60Hz). By default the game tries to launch at 800x600@60Hz initially, so your system must be able to run that same resolution and refresh rate, otherwise the game will abort. If you are using any refresh rate override program/method, disable it (e.g. if you're using Refresh Force, click the 'Restore Original Settings' button and apply). Alternatively, see the Advanced Tweaking section of the guide for details on how to set a different startup resolution, in case your graphics card/monitor simply cannot do 800x600@60Hz resolution. Once you've got the game running, you can then change the resolution to suit your taste in the in-game settings, and importantly you can select a higher refresh rate. Then you can reapply any refresh rate override and the game will launch without any problems. To set a non-standard resolution see the Advanced Tweaking section.

Did you check the refresh rate. Also check the link I gave you. That helped me with my issue.

Ya checked refresh rate. Its at 60. I even tried changing my native windows resolution to 800x600. Didnt help. I dont think it has to do with the resolution. I cant get it to work on my old standard monitor either. ive done everything that tweak guide says and nothing works. The same out come is produced every time.
This really makes me mad, because my last computer worked perfectly everytime i installed BF2.:(

It can also be a problem with the latest patch. Try uninstalling BF2, cleaning your registry and installing BF2 again w/o the patch.

Hey guys, Thanks a ton for your help. I got the problem solved. I talked to a few friends who said the same thing happened to them, and theres was related to their video card. I figured since I had tried every thing else I should try messign with the video card.
I had the newest ATI drivers DLed, but I've always heard they were crap. So, i DLed the Omega drivers and now BF2 works like a charm.
