1.4 Patch Announcement on Friday

Below is a post by DICE employee Colin Clarke, aka [DICE]CKMC as many of us have come to know him, about an announcement coming on Friday regarding the Battlefield 2 1.4 patch. Here's what he had to say:

I suppose I should be flattered to have some one spoof a comment by me. Though I am a little sad they did such a poor job of emulating my communication style. Worth a good laugh while working late so Cheers for that! Though seriously.....a patch release on a saturday? There will be an announcement about the 1.4 release this Friday.

When asked if the announcement on Friday would just be saying that the patch would be released soon, Colin replied "I think you will be pleasantly suprised." Sounds very exciting, stay tuned!

I think its too early to release a 1.4 full because in 1.4 beta 1 and 2 there is nothing really fixed... only a new gameplay mode (which I would rather trade in for some decent fixes) was introduced and the red-tag bug which I for instance had once since BF2's release. The fix-list is too rediculously short and if its a BETA 3 which will be announced the wait was rediculously long (compared to the time between beta 1 and 2)... I (and maybe some other community members) would also prefer to test any anti-dolphin measures before it should hit the streets (this issue was meant to be introduced and never came yet).

The infantry mode may be too much cuz i hate running always! for example-i run one end to another in kubra dam 64 and some1 kills me in the "another" end and i need to run that again now thats a booring game! Look as long as two problems are fixed in 1.4 it will be good
1. No more random game shutting off when you hit join game... i know u can just hit esc or wait.
2.GET RID OF THE DAM HOTEL GLITCH. every day a noob gets in the hotel with a RPK or somethin and ruins the game.
As long as through two are done i will be happy... i dont read the beta stuff cause half of it dont work out i only read whats working on full patches.

added "road to jallajallabad" map
added inf only mode
removed all kinds of strange bugs
changes on the car drop

last min changes:
added new glitches all over karkand, go find them!
added server crash bug every 5 min.

added some more lagg to all players.
you can now buy your daily hacks right in game 5$ each.
added some more commander bugs.
done the black hawk weaker.
assault weaker.
anti-tank now have 50 missiles.
added some more lagg to all players.

If the server crash bug isn't fixed don't bother releasing the patch. All the maps and game modes in the world will mean sweet *f* all if that isn't sorted out.

Well any news is good news. And I am sure that the new patch will be good. About time we had some good news on what is happening :)

Some of you are strange when you complain so much before the new patch has come out. I think that EA and Dice have got it in hand and have worked on fixing the bugs and other things. Jim Bob have you played the beta if so then you will have notice no crash to desk top at all and a much more tighter game running smooth. Some other comments are lame but that what you get when people assume what the new patch will be like. Just be pleased that they have done something about it in a short period of time like I am so I can gain my lost points when the servers locked up to be fired back. Be glad that they have done something about the issues and not be so stupid saying that the patch will be rubbish before it has even been released. They will not make the same balls up.

Personally I think regardless when this patch is released, next month next week, this friday, whatever... its going to be just like the other patches they've already let out. It'll fix something that was broken, nerf something that was great, and break something else. I have to say either way the patch is needed to fix the crashes, and hopefully that exploit on Karkand.

I have high hopes for this patch, they have made 2 public beta testing phases. No other patch had that, however this also saddens me.

Could this really be the last patch in BF2? They seemed to have put a lot of work into this patch and they added quite a lot.

Right; so EA/Dice release a god awful buggy version 1.3 that crashes both BF2 servers and BF2 games respectively very regulary and even then fails to fix some quite key issues (Karkand Hotel glitch, red bug, etc).

It then takes them a month and a half (if my timing is off let me know) to release a 1.4 beta patch that we, the people who paid for this game, have to test for them because either;

(1) their beta testers are too incompetent,

(2) they wanted to mascarade that their spending time on this patch by "listening to the community" when instead they're working on BF2142 as much as possible and,

(3) if the final 1.4 release is just as crap as the 1.3 was they can shunt the blame onto the BF2 community rather than themselves for not helping beta test enough. Effectively making the BF2 community the scapegoats for any future patch problems.

Given this information are we expected to be excited about a new announcement being made when, even if it is a full 1.4 release coming within the next week there's a high percentage chance it'll be absolutely and completely balls? I say no. You are entitled to have a (wrong) opinion and say yes.

Well i have been playing on the 1.4 beta 2 patch and about 2 weeks ago it was great but i played the other day and it was all ****ed up.

Uhm, maybe for you, but my game does't crash so much I'd say it's on a regular basis. In fact, it rarely crashes.

For those who still haven't realised it, the "odd" gameplay has been noted on most of the 1.4 Beta servers from time to time at the minute. Usually this leads to hilarious fun as new people join, accuse the people they can't kill of being cheaters, think the server/they have been hacked, and so on.

(For those who didn't figure it out at the time, any mounted or vehicle weapon works fine, and randomly ordinary weapons will work too.)

Promise to make a *BIG* announcement... Make everyone speculate on stuff that I didn't know was even possible. well weve had news on 2142 veterans process for anyone with active accs on bf2 get a free promotion when u start bf2142 and a stupid war dance to taunt people and u can register a unique nickname before the game starts and joe public gets it, this is not the 1.4 news yet but hey still a few hours to go yet

Sad, but probably true. I would think any serious bug might be addressed with a hotfix, but in terms of gameplay changes I think we've seen the last of them. BF2142 will probably become their primary focus. Which is a shame really, because BF2 has it's own unique flavor, just like BF1942 did, and it should remain an ongoing effort of EA/DICE to improve and expand it. I do think they are going to find QuakeWars to be very stiff competition for BF2142. I'm sure plenty of folks(like myself) will purchase both, but eventually they'll end up playing one or the other. Gamers only have so much time. :)

On a side note, QuakeWars is looking much more like smaller(16/24 player) teams pitted against one another, which means BF2142 could stand-out amongst the gamers who prefer larger 32 and 64 player battles.

It's an exciting time for gamers, with so many next-gen games and hardware on the horizon. Get your wallets ready. ;)

Thank goodness. The server I play on crashes so often it's ridiculous, and the clan I play with cancelled their server subscription because of this too.

Thank goodness!! Lets hope no new problems arise, and it all works out, I don't care if it's the last patch as long as it fixes some issues without creating more.

Wow...how many of the whiners in this thread actually played the beta and reported issues with it? If you haven't and you've come here instead to cry about what EA should have fixed, do us all a favor and stfu. You were given a chance to beta the patch and you didn't. Instead, you probably spent most of your time playing 1.3 all the while pissing and moaning about how bad it is. Thus far 1.4 has been very stable. The new map is fun. Unlike most people, I haven't had many servers crash while I've been in them and I haven't had issues with 1.3 for the most part. So, I don't care if or when they release 1.4. Either way, I'll be playing BF2...


You must not have actually tested 1.4 b/c you have no idea how fked up it was I posted a video of it but the codec was wrong, anyway i found a diff one
