You may not know it but everything you do in BF2 whether it would capturing a flag or defending one is called a "Raid".

Most clans either don't know or don't know how to plan like this putting you in a tactical advantage. I was watching a documentary on how the berets planned a raid and I actually took note and concentrated during the 1 hr program to bring you this,

Squad Leaders please take note.

Clarity Of Purpose

- Why? Why are you wanting to raid this flag/point? (eg. to capture 'beach' flag, defend 'airfield')

Appropriate Means

- Do you have the equipment/kits? Enough members? (eg. having a support, medic and assault. Need air support? Need transport apc or heavy armour support?

Intelligence

- This is where your commander comes in, he will give you info on what targets are there and give you a UAV

Insertion

- This is putting your Apppropriate Means into action! (eg. Drive there via APC or transport car or Black Hawk heli?)

Execution

- This is doing your mission, after you get inserted you must carry out your mission! (eg. capture flag, defend flag, hold a particular point)

Exit Strategy

- This is one of the most important parts of the whole raid, you must be able to escape from the area effectivley, whether that means if you are under a heavy counter-attack you can retreat or so you can move onto another flag quickly. (eg. Black Hawk lands eveyone jumps out, Executes raid plans, capture flag, enemy finds out then you can retreat if you are under heavy fire.

Here is an example scenario:

Clarity of Purpose - Attack and Capture North Village base.

Appropriate Means - Squad 1 will have 2 Medics, 1 support, 1 Spec Ops, and 2 Assault. Squad 2 will have 1 engineer and 1 support. 1 Black Hawk and 1 Cobra are ready.

Intelligence - There is one hostile Tank and 3 Infrantry

Insertion - You will take a Black Hawk helicopter and Parachute out over North Base, Squad Leader will remain in Helicopter

Execution - Squad 2 will take out enemy helicopters and enemy tanks in the AH-IZ Cobra and provide any other backup cover. Squad 1 will capture North Village and eliminate any enemies in the vacinity, your Spec Ops will take out the bridge being the only access point for enemy armour/vehicles

Exit Strategy - Squad Leader 1 still in the Black hawk helicopter will land and pick up his squad and move onto North Base

Please read and take note!

nicely done, thats how bf2 should really be played, not whinning smacktards who care how much points they get per round.

Android I totally agree with you. I hate when people call others noobs because of their score. I dont care about kills/deaths, depending on what they do to help out the team/squad.

It's too bad that the game doesn't force people to use the "raid" tactics that you've described. I partially blame it on conquest being the only official mode for stock BF2. The mod teams have gotten it right by adding assault and advance modes (I believe U.S. Intervention Mod is one of them), which forces people to fight for a specific spawn point before they are allowed to capture other spawn points well behind enemy lines. Unfortunately, not many players are into the mod scene...mostly because they simply don't know about them. Many players don't realize that BF2 wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the Desert Combat mod for BF1942.

Back on topic: There are clans that do employ "raid" tactics, but chances are that you'll only see them granted that you are in serious clan.

Otherwise I have to put the blame on the stats system.....it is interesting idea but people allow for their egos to get in the way of gameplay for the sake of getting that badge, ribbon, or medal. It's a shame.

Oh well it is nice to know that some people do realize that BF2 can be an exhilarating experience if you apply real life tactics and old fashion fun.

thankyou zero for that reply, it is good to know some people do appreciate "old fashioned" tactics, and yes it is a pitty that the consquence of points and stats interfere with the soul objective of gameplay and tactical thinking.

There are no schedules you will adept yourself to any hostile situation.. You cannot predict things like where a tank will be etc. Since this always can differ and it are human beings...

Some of the tips are good but I'll do it my way what works pretty damn good..

I AM NOT GOING TO HANG OUT WITH PEOPLE on VOIP who are constantly saying cover my back I'm going into the hallway.. Clear move in.. Cover my big fat a$$ before I get a tankshell in it.. NO THIS IS BATTLEFIELD not RAINBOW
SIX

Of course you can't predict everything that will happen in the game. When playing as a team it's good to have a gameplan. Does it always work? Of course not because the game has vany variables and intangibles. When it does work the payoff is much more rewarding that winging it and hoping for the best.

Your reply sounds as if you mostly play solo/lonewolf and that's perfectly fine. However, one of the attractions of BF2 is the teamwork aspect. Some people want to immerse themselves into the game and use realistic tactics to accomplish their goals. The game has potential for much more strategy than Rainbow Six or even the Ghost Recon series of games due to it having much larger maps with the incorporation of vehicles.

Oh well play in a manner that pleases you most....it's just that Comamber was offering people who like the team aspect another way to engulf themselves into the game.

i have tried to get a my team to do this for well... as long as i have played bf2 ... they don't seem to like the idea of it though... i once had a squad when i was commander they had like 2 med 2 support 1 engineer and a sniper and they did everything i said no matter what the squad leader was always alive thanks to the 2 medics and if the member died and medic's didn't get them back on the squad leader... it was amazing took bases like crazy even with 7-8 guys defending won the round easily

Nice description of how game play should be!!! I have been getting people together that want to work as a Squad and actually do Raids and use VOIP while doing so. The game is a lot better when you get past the whole I just want points scenerio!! This method has been especially effective in SF. We had an awesome unit on Iron Gator Last night and we were kickin some butt.
