The guys over at Charlie Oscar Delta (http://www.charlieoscardelta.com/sitrep.php) have released the Multiplayer Perk #2 today titled Deep Impact. Read on for more info:

This week we’re showing off the multiplayer perk, “Deep Impact.” Before I jump into the details of what Deep Impact allows you to do, here’s the low-down on Bullet Penetration in the game. In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, we’ve introduced a new Bullet Penetration system to both Single-player and Multiplayer that allows you to shoot through certain objects in the game that would normally be used as cover (i.e. Walls, floors, ceilings).

That said, what you can shoot through depends on three main variables:

• The Ballistics of the weapon you’re using.
• The relative ‘thickness’ of the object you’re shooting through.
• The distance between you and the object you’re firing into.

These three things determine IF you can shoot through the object, and if you can, how strong the bullet will be once it passes through it. It changes the entire way you play the game; suddenly it’s not just about getting to cover, but about getting to hard cover. In multiplayer, this can change your tactics dramatically. Rather than simply picking a weapon to take into a firefight, you can carefully craft your weapon’s load out to the environment you’ll be fighting in.

In the video, we made sure to take huge advantage of bullet penetration, showing off how the M249 SAW makes light work of thin plaster walls and wooden floor boards. Now how does the Deep Impact perk play into this?

Well, for a weapon like the M249 Saw (featured in the video), obviously it has the power to easily shoot through plaster walls, wooden floors, and even some fairly thick stone walls--but what about an M4 Carbine, or some other lower caliber rifle? Normally, weapons like these wouldn’t be able to penetrate stone walls or thick surfaces like the M249 SAW.

However, if you have Deep Impact selected as a perk, you will have INCREASED bullet penetration on whatever weapon you use. This allows you to pierce thicker objects, and with increased strength as it passes through. Turn Deeper Impact on and your M4 Carbine that used to be stopped by thin walls now penetrates through them easily, taking out anyone attempting to use it as cover.

Keep in mind though; you are limited to only three perks per custom class. So in order to have Deep Impact, you’re giving up something else, such as LAST STAND, or another perk. Choices…. Choices!

pretty sweet perk, but mainly; its sweet their incorporating this into the game that you can shoot through thin material and certain material judging upon your weapon!

Very nice!!

I like the special abilities they are coming up with but this one takes a walk on the unrealistic side for multiple reasons.

1) How do they justify giving a weapon more stopping power?
2) An M249 is the same caliber as an M4 isn't it. hence same stopping power?

I don't know this one just sounds sketchy to me.

Looks great. The map is actually the one with the two bridges, so this is more views of the map. It looks like an amazing map that is fun to play.

The M249 is the same caliber as an M4. But maybe its saying, "but what about an M4 Carbine, or a gun with a lower caliber". Then there could be some other factor that makes the M4 weaker in this game...like for balance issues or something. I don't really know, I guess they just made a mistake.

To be honest the game does not look realistic anyway so don't get to specific about the caliber of the wepon. Try to enjoy them game when it does come out and don't ruin it by over thinking things.

Also i don't believe it does any more damage or "Stopping Power" as you phrased it, i believe it just has the ability to pass threw objects more effectivily, at a better range and does more damage once out the other side.

First of all it'd be nice if it made holes in the wall, second of all, I sort of dislike goofy multiplayer modes like last stand or something, I prefer realism over fun.

I'd see something like a big friggin sniper rifle penetrating a wall, but as you guys said, the M4 and SAW are the same calibur. Unless maby the bullets are armor piercing or something

Perks are bonus abilities you get by leveling up. You can only have 3 of them active each time you spawn, and they are chosen from different categories for balance - you won't be able to pick any 3 you want out of the entire list, but instead 1 from each of 3 different categories.

Servers will likely have the ability to limit perks, or turn them off completely if admins so choose. Realism-type players/servers can keep things as stock, while others can enjoy the new, wider variety experience.

Games have to evolve and keep moving forward to attract new players. Upgrades and special abilities have been in games for a long time, and do help to keep things fresh.

These perks/abilities also aren't so far-fetched. There are ways to modify weapons in real life for more penetration or stopping power (ie. either to the gun itself, or the ammo used); some soldiers run faster than others; some can take more damage than others (within reason); some have better hand-eye co-ordination and can reload their weapon faster. In many ways, some of these upgrades can actually make the game more true-to-life, and some are just for fun. Again, they have been grouped and tested to help ensure as much balance as possible, so that no one can suddenly become Superman on the battlefield.

I think they need to be given a chance before being dismissed so quickly.

Not bad, until bullets don't go through every kind of wall.

The M249 SAW has a higher muzzle velocity than a M4 (more stopping power), and it isn't unrealistic to be able to shoot bullets through walls that are made out of thin material...and they NEVER said that you would be able to penetrate EVERY type of wall...

"That said, what you can shoot through depends on three main variables:

• The Ballistics of the weapon you’re using.
• The relative ‘thickness’ of the object you’re shooting through.
• The distance between you and the object you’re firing into."
