The team behind the Forgotten Hope 2 (http://forgottenhope.bf1942files.com/main.php?flash=no&lang=english&module=) mod is back today with a new update. This time around they have a number of in game shots to show. Take a look:
Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. Today we have only a few words to say but many images to show. We have 10 screenshots of our current build, made during online tests with on our test server. These show off a lot of relatively new integration of the models, textures and code that we have been showing separately in our earlier news updates. We would like to take a moment and thank both Warumdarum.de and wolfservers.com for providing us with test servers. Without excellent communities like these supporting us, the Forgotten Hope community would not be nearly as lively and interesting.
The screens were taken on the map "Operation Aberdeen" by Augustus. For those that are new to the mod, here is a quick recap of who made the different items shown: DAK soldiers and equipment by Zero and McGibs, the MP40 by HailofNails and Rad, the Stielhandgrenate by Rad, the SdKfz251/1 by K96, the Panzer IIIN by Rad, Upgraded sandbag texture maps by Rad (model by DICE), the K98 by McGibs, Opel Blitz by Mange and Jimbob, the P38 by HailofNails and McGibs and North African buildings by Malsa to only mention a few things. ctz put it all together and got it to work smoothly.
These are all work-in-progress shots from our alpha build, so there are still many things to be tweaked. A number of people seemed anxious see what FH2 looked like in a less formal presentation than we usually have for our news images, so these pictures are for them.

Now this is what i call a mod update. That Kar looks bloody amazing, the BF2 ironsight style looks real nice. It's not RO, it's not CoD2. It's unique.
I know, it'll look nothing like that on my comp which barely runs BF2 on low/medium but still. Good stuff.
Where's the HUD/minimap? Don't tell me you guys got rid of the whole thing!

That would be awesome if there was no hud or minimap (just a compass instead) it would be more realistic and original for BF2 mods. Though it looks like they were just cropped out of the pic. Anyways great job and keep up the great work. I am eagerly waiting for this mod to be released, but please by all means take your time to perfect this masterpiece

lol I hope he's strafing. I've never seen a left handed man hold the trigger with his right :p
By the way that rifle looks absolutely amazing and better than anything I could imagine based on the renders. You guys truly are providing a wonderful service with this mod.

Wow looks great.
BTW I thought the german flag in ww2 was that red one with the swastika.
So whats this flag I see here?
http://images.totalbf2.com/news/183%20-%20dak_06.jpg
Is it that that was flag the army used and was the red one just for the party?
Its just that in ww2 films its always that red flag we see. Please excuse my ignorance , google didnt help. I typed german ww2 flags and I dont get the one in that screenshot.

I believe they use that symbol for the German flags because the swastika and other Nazi Party symbols are outlawed in Germany.
Update looks good. It's nice to see some ingame action.

If you feel that takes away from some of the realism, just wait about a month or so after release and I'm sure you'll see some client side "Realism Texture Packs" like there were for FH1.

wow thats pretty insane. I mean...that really messed up. WW2 happend, get over it, the germans shouldnt feel guilty but they shouldnt cover things up either.
Loads of other countries went insane and tried to take over the world many times in history.
At least the germans admit it was wrong, where as many of the others are actually proud of conquering other nations.
Soz I could go on, but I dont wanna spoil this thread on a what looks to be a great mod. I'm just a little shocked. Jesus germany needs to move on. Be proud.

Indeed! I was actually sick of ww2 games, and the thought of a ww2 mod wasnt too apealing to me until I actually started seeing the screenshots of this mod.
Very high quality stuff:cool:

Sisko, the german law is clear about the issue: swastikas, SS runes and some other forbidden symbols can't be showcased in games.
Games like CoD, MoH, etc must release special versions for the german market, the most funny example is return to castle wolfenstein, in the german version the enemies are not nazis, they are some kind of secret german society afaik.
If we use swastikas the german websites and games magazines can't showcase our news, german servers can't host the mod and even our german devs could have legal troubles.

Great work FH!
Since I'm not registered on the FH forums, I'll do this here, as it's apparent that the FH DEVs read this --
One thing bugging me:
http://forgottenhope.bf1942files.com/images/news/183%20-%20dak_08.jpg?PHPSESSID=9f4c119ec814d8226b8c5128bb 46503f
In this screenshot, it appears that the sight picture isn't properly aligned with the the rear v-notch, but the studs that hold the sight-ladder retaining pin (although it may just be that the player was moving at the time, but I don't know, so just in case, I'm pointing this out)
I took some pics of my Mauser (Yugoslavian M48, basically a Yugo K98, with some minor differences. The sights are a LITTLE different, but still have the same sight picture)
Attempt at taking a picture of proper sight picture. Not spot on ( way off if I were actually shooting ;) ), but close enough to see where things should be.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/M0ldyM1lk/04562db7.jpg
FH's sights are lining the front sight up with the struts where the sight leaf retaining pin goes (the 2 things sticking up at the top), instead of the V-Notch (at the bottom)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/M0ldyM1lk/71e31774.jpg
Hopefully this is of some use?
Great work overall however!

Great update, but: the wrists and hands seem too thin. A soldier should have rougher hands...they look like hands of a computer nerd or a pianist...
Also, they all look alike, like clones or something. I hope to see more different faces. The weapons seem to have weird sizes; the pistols and the mp40 seem too big. The clothes seem too rigid and "plastic" looking, don't know why. The textures are very good and so are the overall proportions, unlike anything out there.

It's just from where the upper handguard extends behind the rear sight. If I took that off, it would look virtually the same.
Regardless of the adjustment points, the front sight should still be aligned with the rear V-Notch, not the posts that contain the retaining pin

Yeah no worries man. Thanks for enlighting me, I didnt realise things were that crazy in Germany. I remember a friend told me the indiana jones was banned in Germany & I thought he was taking the piss. I guess he wasnt. :(

I was strifing left (while prone) when i took that shot. The sight right now is laser point accurate when you are crouched or prone. Ask Lighting or Lobo
I'm redoing the sites right now for 85mm fov. This way it's more of a rifle than a Sniper weapon. A little less blur on the backend too I think. See what you think. It's not set in stone, so I'm open for suggestions.

Yeah, it should be like a normal rifle instead of a sniper. A sniper rifle should have huge zoom so that it's really good at long range. The normal rifle shouldn't have any zoom, so that it's much better in close and medium range than a sniper rifle (the zoom on the sniper has to be very large so that you don't get those annoying rambo snipers and so it's harder to follow targets at medium/close range, right now in BF2 the zoom is perfect for the n00b snipers so they can go rambo, same with CoD2)
I think the blur should be kept, it keeps it's unique BF2 ironsights feel, the front (pin-thing) should be a little sharper though.
=[WOW]=Sisko
08-16-2006, 02:44 PM
yeah the blur really adds to it I think.

No problem, it's my job as a Mauser whore
Now if you really want some neat-o stuff here, take this into account:
When shooting without optics using open sights, once you line up the front and rear sights, you adjust your focus to only the front sight and target (this will make your groupings tighter). So if you blurr the rear sight a bit, keep the front sharpened, but blurr the screen around everything except the target area, that would be just plain awesome in my opinion
...If this is even possible, I wouldn't know, I'm just a tester :p

I always thought Operation Aberdeen was fictional.
Operation Aberdeen was a British armored attack during one phase of the Gazala campaign, in mid-1942. The action is often referred to by other names-- like the battle for "The Cauldron" which refers to a pocket of Axis forces temporarily stranded in the midst of the Allied defensive positions--so googling Operation Aberdeen mostly brings up references to the Bf1942 map.

As opposed to what? The ammo cartridge? If I'm not mistaken thats a common misconception thats often displayed in games.
