Well many times in BF2 you'll have nobody to squad with. Well here's my guide to being a lone wolf. This is really if you are deep behind enemy lines with no backup or support. Or even in the case that you are the last one left on your team and have to get a flag. These tactics might even work well for a stealthly or very careful squad.
1. Engagement
Don't engage anybody unless you know for sure you can win. Then the next thing to remember after that is to kill them in the easiest possible way. If you are a class with a silenced pistol use that so he won't know what direction you're coming from. If they are sniping or are not focusing behind them knife them. If they have a decent weapon and have spotted you use nades, C4, rocket launcher, or grenade launcher. For snipers always go for the headshot so they can't return fire.
2. Countering Pursuers
If you are being chased by anybody try to zig zag. The tactics are different for city, SF, and the non-city maps. A good tactic inside a building in SF is if you go into a room and they follow you. Hide right behind the door so you can shoot them when they come in. For city maps in general the same can be done around corners they will round the corner and likely be looking straight.
3. Awareness
Always look in the sky for a UAV. If you see an enemy UAV get as far away from it as you can. Because you'll have a squad, arty, or carty, following within a few seconds. Even if you hide well they will still see you on UAVs and scans and probably will just nade spam or arty your position. Another thing to use and rely on is your UAVs. If you see an unguarded flag go for it. If you are in the process of capping a flag and you kill an enemy, be ready for that guy to spawn again in 15 seconds. Maybe change your capping position to throw him off a little. For destroying enemy assets rig them up to blow all at once so you don't alert the enemy of your prescense until you are ready to escape.
4. Movement
If you stay still you'll eventually be killed unless you're hiding somewhere in your main lol. If you cap a flag wait until others spawn or just get out of there because the enemy is probably gonna be close by ever since it went neutral.
5. Cover
Cover is important if you are engaged by enemies or a vehicle. Avoid any cover that is directly against a wall if you have a choice. Things like stacks of crates out in the open are great. You can keep rotating around them if the enemy is trying to get you. Also tank shell, apc cannon, and rocket launcher splash damage cannot get to you. If you are an AT you could get lucky and take out a tank that is getting frustrated because you it's too slow and you keep popping up and shooting.
6. Vehicles
In an enemy main or any enemy base you may find potentially important vehicles. There only 2 things to them. Either use them yourself or booby trap them. That all depends on your vehicle skill and what you feel like doing. If it's something like a J-10 you know for sure you'll get a kill by sticking C4 on it. I suggest this only for "important vehicles" that excludes transports, transport choppers, and depending on the map maybe even APCs. Vehicles that have the capicity to carry a whole squad are almost never full. If they are then you are probably just getting lucky.
