Well as we promised you earlier in the week, we do have a preview article for you all. Our very own HKSniper was able to beta test the highly anticipated Point of Existence 2 (http://www.pointofexistence.com/) mod and was very, very pleased with what he played. Here's the intro of the preview article:

Point of Existence 2 is by far one of the most highly anticipated modification for Battlefield: 2 to date. Ever since it's highly effective and very fun Battlefield: Vietnam release, Point of Existence 2 has had a very loyal fan base. That is about to change. Because the fanbase for Point of Existence 2? Yeah, it's going to get bigger. Very big. Enough with jibber-jabber and introduction. Let's get to the preview.

Point of Existence 2 is based on a fictional conflict between Germany and Ukraine in a modern world. The storyline still ties in with the Battlefield: Vietnam release, where Russia and the United States duked it out in Africa. Now the US and Russia are at a cease fire, however Ukraine has different plans...domination. So in an effort to keep Europe safe, Germany thrusts into an offensive to counter the threat. So begins Point of Existence 2.

From day one this Mod was going to be the modern combat mod for BF2. Twas inevitable IMO. Too much work from too many highly talented people - I cant expect this mod to be anything less than the mod to bring all the newcomers to BF that came with BF2 to the wonderful world of MODS. MODS FTW. To all of radioland out there - If you don't download this the only person missing out will be you :D This Mod gets Jimbob's Ultimate Seal of Approvaltm - without a doubt.

Mods looking great, is there going to be any new gameplay modes? Some sort of conquest mode but the flags have to be capped in a certain order, new maps based around this mode and everything. Think there's more info on this mode on their official site. It'll be fun, sort of like there's a designated frontline and so the battle isn't a tiresome flag capping event going around in circles which is what most other mods i've played so far feel like...

I dont care if some stuff is borrowed from bf2 at all. I just hope the way the game plays, the air vehicles physics, and the sound. Oh and weapon accuracy, lol.

Ive read the mod reviews on TBF2 for a long time, but never have I seen one this detailed and glory filled.
PoE2 is now on the top of my list of what to get!!
Great article HKsniper, ones of the best articles I have ever seen written about a game.
PoE2 looks great.. and wow that 1 gig download is going to be worth it from what I can tell!

One gig download isn't a problem if they can host it on nice places like filefront. Proper servers + A solid 120Kb/s = 1 gig done in no time. I don't think anyone here is without broadband, otherwise they wouldn't be playing BF2. As long as they can get some nice hosting it shouldn't be a problem. None of that filecloud/planet/registering BS though...

I am a huge fan of filecloud, they have some really great services and let you store your own files for hosting, at no charge!!!

That would be a great thing. The MOD scene is not getting the response so far that it should, and its not from a shortage of good mods to play at all.

Of course, they dont have the experience or man power of POE or FH, but I still expected more players. Maybe the two big dogs will bring out the packs, god I hope so. You can bet I will be there either way. Eventaully, I am going to play games again, lol.

I was wondering about the audio playing in that youtube video. Was that added in afterwards? Or does it play during the map? Also , where was the music bed from?

I think he probably just posts like that most of the time. Some people forget that sarcasm doesnt work well in a forum, since you can never tell if someone is being lighthearted, or just a plain jerk. I go 50\50 with strangers, lol.

GOod point though Bigdog. If you had the slightest idea "Havock" how much work it takes to create something like a full MOD, you would do nothing but clap, for any finished prodect, let alone the kill fest that POE2 looks like. :rolleyes:

yes i have been disappointed with the response to most of the mods too.plenty of servers out there, just aint being played on....I guess EA/DICE's Ranking system is too much of a temptation for most.I haven't played BF2 vanilla regularly for a long time and when i do i get peed off very quickly with the points whoring.

This looks like it will be a great mod...In fact ALL the mods that i have played so far have been very enjoyable...and i know that it will do well.......lets be having ya then!!!:D

The guns however do have faults. For one you can not just spray and pray, you've got to be realistic and control your shots.

Absolutely the best mod for BFV and now soon to be the best mod for BF2. These guys put out an amazing product last time. Any chopper pilot who's flown their BFV version of the Comanche chopper will tell you that it was the most fun vehicle to use in any game. The sounds are always top notch and the gameplay was every bit as balanced as anything that EA has given us. Congrats to the POE team on breathing new life into BF2...

Thanks for the head's up. Great to see the team is on the ball for its release.

To all nay-sayers, POE brought iron-sight to BF Vietnam, which was a first for its time. I don't know how we played FPS games without iron-sight! :) Just imagine what POE2 will bring us in terms of additions to an already great game.

The only thing I dont like, by looking at the vid and the pics, is that with some guns, the hands don`t looks like they are actually holding it. It`s like they have used some other gun`s hand anims (?) or something (fingers go through weapon model, weird *** positioning of fingers etc)

And I do hope you can`t parachute right away, when you exit a heli or a jet- Too easy for pilots to escape death

All the ones I remember were "zoom" ins. Like, in BF, you could essentially "zoom" in for a clearer shot, but POE added the iron-sight once it became popular with COD.

I'm not going to get into it. But there was plenty of times myself and other people I play with were kicked from your USI server for NO reason, especially on that one inf map. And we were fully aware of all your little rules you had and none were broken. Maybe it's something against CAL players, but oh well. Gonna be plenty of better servers to play on.

Please dont hijack, but at the same time, I would say POE has plenty of praise, and this was an interview of nothing but praise. A slight momentary deviation wont break thier spirits or cause any tears, or cause any disturbence in the force.

Sorry for the disturbance. These are the players that carry poor sportsmanship and extended uncap raping while their team loses the game over to mod play. They are stuck in vanilla mode. This is on topic as PoE will have plenty of carry over with poor vanilla type selfish play early but it will improve with time. Also the kick *** sweet game modes and flow changes will help alot too.

From what I have seen while looking at the PoE website, and all the other media outlest currently doing stories about PoE, you will have your hands full. This is a total conversion mod of high quality, and the first build packs alot of punch.
I have also seen a few unmentioned items being posted and I am curious as to what they are!

Operation Flashpoint: 2001 was first game introduced with iron-sights
Then it's either Vietcong or COD.

Either way, not many games had them, and the modders included it as a great option. Any team who can work out a new "scripted item" to the original game is a great team.

One of the reasons I enjoy the armored fury booster pack so much is the combat zones don't take place in some open fields with capture points, there's houses, cars, gas stations, factories etc. I hope POE's maps also have things like this in them rather than a lot of the bland BF2 vanilla maps. Also the more destructable environments the better!

^^ Yeah thats how i feel. When you play BF2, it doesnt seem like a real place, like noone would live there. Just made up. I hope POE does accompish that problem. It said in that interview that theres ALOT of different buildings in it.

Had fun modding the maps and units on PoE1. Anyone that played our modded Gazala server or our modded siege at mukatan server remember some serious action. Will it be more difficult to edit the vehicles and locations than in BFV version? We may do that down the road when PoE2 is out for a bit just to mix it up. Thanks for the effort dev team we are on pins and needles for this one.

Let me begin by saying I have been playing military First Person Shooters since the "Delta Force" days and nothing I have EVER played will come close to PoE2!!!! I did some testing for PoE2 in the earlier stages of the mod and all i can say is AMAZING. The dedication and hard work by the PoE team shows in their work and showcases how much they care about their community and actually listen to feedback. I know my clan www.eastcoastraiders.org played PoE 1 and have all been waiting in eager anticipation for the release of PoE 2. I can tell you now that when PoE 2 is released it will not only be the best mod ever made but hopefully the biggest as well. Thanks again to the PoE team and all their hardwork and dedication they have made to bring us the soon to be Best mod ever made!!
