Has it been confirmed whether or not COD4 will be Direct X 10 or Direct X 9?

It is/is being developed as a DX9 game. It will probably still work on DX10, however.

Thats good news! But do you have an official source saying this? I want to be sure..

I was personally at the community event a couple weeks back. The question was put to IW: "Will COD4 support DX9 or DX10?"

The answer was "We're making a badass DX9 game."

Technically DirectX 10 is backwards compatible with DirectX 9 games. Considering Company of Heroes is a DirectX 9 built game, it has the patch needed to run as DirectX 10. There is really no graphical difference in DX10 vs DX9 in CoH (just google company of heroes dx10) and you'll see quite a few reviews stating not a highly glamorous change as most people boast and most screen shots exaggerate.

Don't get me wrong COD4 looks incredible and I think because the paid extra close attention to textures, mipmaping and mechanics. When I saw the trailer where the sniper is laying down and you can't see him, it reminded me of ghost recon when they have the very detailed guille suits, it looked sick.

Originally I was a bit disappointed I have a high end DX10 capable PC but it will be DX9

However, the more I see these screenshots and new videos, the more I think InfinityWard has pulled off the best looking DX9 game of all time.

I am glad it is DX9. I'm not upgrading to crappy vista and having to spend all that money on a new card.

Vista isn't crappy at all. I don't see why people relate Vista to being crappy. In fact, it runs better then my Windows XP Pro ever did and isn't a resource hog as everyone says if you disable the unneeded stuff; its less of a hog then XP SP2 ... So, let me conclude by saying this, "Everyone who doesn't have Vista, don't say a damn word about it because you are all wrong."

Maybe all those patches finally improved it. That's good to hear.

At any rate, the buggy-ness of the initial release did them a lot of PR damage, and it takes a fairly beefy PC to run Vista properly as well. The damage, in terms of word-of-mouth, has been done. Many folks in my clan/group tried it, then uninstalled it because it was so frustrating at first.

Thing is, there's not a lot of reason right now to force people to "upgrade" to Vista. Until there is, I think you'll see only a slow trickle of people migrating over.

DX9 to keep it available to the community...not everyone can afford a dx10 pc nowadays....they are still very expensive

Thats quite understandable but the interesting part is that I have never had a single problem with Vista. When I first installed it, I was expecting things not to go my way in the least and need to go back to XP... however, I never hit one problem (Besides my ATi card's drivers sucking badly with Vista) which I guess is a pretty big flaw as a gamer, but I do have an upgraded computer now that runs as smooth as a babies bottom:rolleyes:

I run vista ultimate with no problems at all, eveything was new enough to be compatible. I enjoy whooping up on console players in shadow run and will enjoy it more when Frontlines fuel of War comes out.

True vista has its problems with older hardware but let's be real DirectX 9 or not, this game will have system requirements to make it look that good. If you aren't willing to upgrade then you shouldn't consider this game at all.

I have 2gb of ram, 7900GT and an AMD Opteron processor...I should do fine.

My complaints with Vista is that when it first came out, it was tested to see how it performed gaming wise when compared to XP...it failed. XP ran games better than Vista did. I'll eventually upgrade to Vista, but I'm not going to do it anytime soon as long as there are a few good games running DX9.
