This week we're introducing a new type of perk. Previously showcased perks focused around Special Abilities such as Increased Bullet Penetration with Deep Impact, Increased Rate of Fire with Double Tap, or Increased Reload Times with Slight of Hand. There is another category of perks that focuses less on these Special Abilities and more on Special Weapons.

Special Weapons include things such as C4, RPGs, extra grenades, etc. The first Special Weapons perk we're going to showcase is C4. C4 doesn't need a ton of explanation - it's a perfect perk for objective game types such as Search and Destroy where you can set traps for your enemy, and for faster paced games like Free For All (Deathmatch) where you can lead your target towards you and blow them up with well placed C4.

To show off the perk in-game, we decided to load up a Free For All (Deathmatch) and Team Deathmatch game on the Playstation 3 and just blow the hell out of the level. Keep in mind, the actual perk only gives you 2 C4 per spawn, so you have to choose your usage of them wisely. C4 is great for setting traps, especially since vehicles are fully destructible in multiplayer. As you can see in the first part of the video, we planted some C4 on a car, lured the enemy up to it to take cover and sent them flying. The rest of the video is a montage of death showcasing the many ways to take out enemies using C4. We go from planting it on the run, to planning an attack, to catching our enemies off guard by throwing C4 over the wall in the direction they’re heading. Watch out for the little blooper reel at the end that I like to call, "When C4 Collides."

C4 problem? It was barely used except for when you could jump and throw it.

I can see this in a small team death match map with lots of players. That will be fun

What would that be?

In the glory days of BF2 you could chuck C4 a pretty good distance, and you could jump and throw it for added range/utility. Enough people complained, so they nerfed it pretty heavily.

"C4 chucking" as it became known was actually a lot of fun and I'm glad to see it make a return. The potential for a "problem" is much lower this time around for a number of reasons.

-CoD is already known to favor the cinematic over the realistic. (Fun first.)

-You only have two charges. BF2 game you five.

-Less access to resupply. I don't know how previous CoD games handled restocking, or indeed if anyone ever lived long enough to run out of ammo, but in BF2, there were Support players running all over the place dropping ammo packs and one ammo pack gave you 100% ammo on all weapons, including C4 and other explosives.

Ah, thanks very much for that explanation.

To be clear, in COD4, there is NO resupply. You have 2 C4 charges, when you spawn, and that's it. If you use them up, you have to die and spawn again to get 2. They are not cumulative, meaning that if you don't use them, you don't spawn with more next time. It's always just 2 max.

Coming in here as a hardcore BF junkie with little CoD experience, how does the weapon reload model work? Say I have a 30 round clip and use 6 rounds to kill a punk who just jumped me. If I reload, do I:

a.) Lose 24 rounds as I slap a new clip in place
b.) Lose 6 rounds from my total ammo as I top off the clip

You'll only lose six rounds from your accumulative ammo count.

The ammo in the Call of Duty series is based more on how many rounds you have. You could say that the game tries to give you the least amount of clips as possible.
