Does anyone know if COD4 will have a persisent stats system for multiplayer (keeps track of your stats in that account) or not?

While there will be stat tracking, I don't think they are going to take it to the draconian extreme EA did with BF2/2142. They mention it in one of the interviews, but I'll be damned if I can go back and find which one. Stats could very well be tracked player side. Ranked servers won't cost a premium, it will just be a check box in server setup that tells the client to record your stats. If server operators want to run with all unlocks, by all means.

It solves one of the huge headaches of the BF system where you have people stat padding just to get all the unlocks and get an "edge" over normal players. There is also the whole issue of people getting all there stats wiped because they wanted to play a game with only knives and pistols, etc... It also lets people who don't care about the whole RPG game play element to pick the game up and play the "full game" without being penalized because they haven't put months of work into the game.

Stats are there to add to your own personal enjoyment of the game. It also makes groups like the ROE uneeded. You let players play the game the way they want, and all you have to worry about is cheat/hack detection.

I hated in BF2 that you HAD to be on a ranked server to earn points, you HAD to play with all unlocks/all weapons, and you HAD to play it by their rules, or your stats are wiped, and if you want to play a mod, do it on an unranked server (and no one does, because you don't get points). One of the fun bits of Call of Duty is that you can limit almost anyone you want to make many combinations of ways to play.

Hopefully, you can play with whatever settings you want and with whatever mods you want, and still earn points.
