Ok, ive searched so many threads, and tried so many things its unreal. This is the full story...

I moved machines and installed BF2 from the CD.

It ran fine, but then I realised I had to patch it.

I downloaded 1.3 from the EA site, and ran. It fails halfway through, just saying "patching failed".

I downloaded two other versions of 1.3, and no joy.

Found on another thread, I tried to install the patch through the "temp" method, it ran through but no joy.

Ive uninstalled and reinstalled after every failed patch attempt, deleting the registry each time.

After loading the game after any failed patch attempt, I get the "lighting.fx shader error".

So i looked up causes and solutions. I went to copy my entire shader_client rar file into the shaders folder, but there is no lighting file in that rar. So thats that out.

I thought, hang on, I'll try and install the very first patch. So i tried 1.01, and it doesnt even start patching, it just locks up.

I then tried 1.12 using the temp method. This ran through, and I think it worked.

I tried running the game, and yes, no shader error! But wait, crashes to desktop every time before the EA/DICE logos appear.

So thats fooked as well.

And I also read the patches need like 2GB free space, I have 10GB free. So its not that.

And i also tried running it through a mini-image, but once again no luck.

How can EA release a game so unstable?

But, seeing as I cant install any patch, I know I wont be able to install 1.4 when its released, so this needs sorting.

Can anyone out there help me? Please?

Add me to Lavindathar@realityproject.com as well, I need this sorted !

Dude, your a godsend.

After searching countless threads and trying everything, it installed in safe mode and the game runs!

Cant beleive after 2 days of trying and reading threads, no-one had mentioned that before!
