This is a problem that has started pretty recently for me and I'v tried everything I know to try and fix. My problem is that my game graphics seem to pause for a mili second and then continue, sometimes the pausing can even be for a second. This happens every 10-20seconds and its starting to drive me crazy.

I'v tried
Reinstalling bf2
Reinstalling Graphics drivers
Reinstalling motherboard drivers
lowering settings (from the high that I used to play on all the way down to low)
Changing my sound settings

I dont know what else to try , perhaps it is a BIOS issue? I can remember around the same time as this happening that I did have to reset my CMOS, perhaps this is linked?

Thanks for any help.

My rig is

-3Ghz IP4
-1gb RAM
-6800GT 256MB

lower ur settings and try again or just put texture in low since u need 2gig of ram to run texture on high and to make the game smooth

It happens to me sometimes, too. Lowering the settings doesn't help. Specs in sig.

I updated to the newest drivers a week after it happened but it had the same effect.

try the 91.33 drivers and lower the settings alittle bit especially the texture leave it at low and say what happens.and as said u need 2gig ram to run smoothly with texture in high

I'm not sure what it is, but I have the same problem and it's getting so bad i'm about to pull out my teeth.

I have a P4 CPU 3.60GHz, 2g Ram , GeForce Go 6800 256mb forceware 84.26 and have been playing on high settings for about 8 months with no stutter and (until patch 1.3 which caused no end of problems)

I've tried all manner of differnt graphics drivers and nothing fixed it.

I'm convinced it may have something to do with the way BF2 handles the sound... as i used msconfig and disabled most things from loading (including sound) and the game played fine without stutter but with no sound.

It's taken me a few months to get to that conclusion as ive reinstalled the game, operating system, punkbuster and drivers many times.

I have an Alienware m7700 with an onboard Realtek High Definition Audio (5.10.0.5036 - have upgraded to latest version also, with no success)

I'm having the same problem, but I was working great after 1.4 until last night. I gave up and turned on the defrag and went to bed. It was only 5% fragmentation but I'm hoping it'll be fixed when I get a chance to play again.

I made absolutely no changes to my system between Monday and Tuesday but it just decided it didn't want to work right last night so I have no clue what is causing this problem. If I have to reinstall the game again somebody is in trouble. So any ideas anyone?

I something very similar. It's new in the 1.4 patch.

Can't be sure it's the same problem that you are having but for me it appears network related. Only on the very lowest ping servers do I not get this.

I get really high framerates and the problem doesn't happen in single player. I think the net game speed has suffered somehow because I get people jerking around the screen as well a lot more often with the 1.4 patch.

but.... I do have an audigy2 as well. There is quite a scary click at the start of games. What is this fix?

I might try switching to those. Right now I've been using 91.33 for months with no problem. All of a sudden I get this weird stutter starting last night even though I made no changes to my system (not so much as even installed or uninstalled a program). I defragged my HDD last night and that helped a little bit, but the problem is definitely still there.

For sound I use my onboard Legacy, but there is a cheapo SB Audigy card installed on the system so I can use the game port on it for my ancient joystick. I have the Audigy disabled though, so I don't think it's causing problems because it has been installed and disabled for like 4 or 5 months now.

I run everything maxed out @ 1280x1024. Like I said before, I've never had this problem until just last night when I didn't change anything about the computer.

southamptonfc,
I get normal framerates (70-80fps) and then it drops down to (10-12 fps) for a second and then it goes back to normal and then back down to 10 and then back to normal. It does this every couple of seconds and it makes it impossible to do anything while it's happening. Whereas your problem sounds net related, my framerate is actually dropping by like 75% so I'm fairly certain something is going on with my computer. I'm wondering if it's heat releated (I'll clean out the filters on the front of the case and see if it helps)...what are "good" operating temps for CPU, GPU and/or other components?

how do you check your FPS?

^

go into ur console by hitting ~ and type "renderer.drawfps 1" and the number on the left at tehtop left hand corner is ur fps

and to turn it of.... type "renderer.drawfps 0"

Well for me the problem was either heat related, defrag related or a combination of the two. I cleaned my case air filters and defragged and all is good once more. Perhaps if you don't have air filters on your case you could open it up and make sure that all the fans and heatsinks are reasonably free of dust. Hopefully this will help someone else figure out their problem too.

This must be a 1.4 issue. I am getting this too, my BF2 used to be perfect, brilliant framerates and never a stutter. The first time it happened I noticed immediately and was worried. I spent a whole evening trying to fix it but had no luck, now am realising it must be a 1.4 thing........ I also get connection to server lost a lot more often FIX IT EA !!!!!!!

just to add, this is also what happened to me. It happened sometime after the 1.4 patch was installed. What the hell could have caused this?

I had this problem...turned out to be an overheating chipset and a bad stick of RAM. Run Memtest ASAP.

this is an old thread, my problem was fixed, i replaced my powersupply and CPU but there was a lot of dust build up in both clean everything n try it out see if you get better FPS

Google Memtest :P If you have a DFI Motherboard (like I do) it's possible to enable it on startup :P
