The ESRB (http://www.esrb.org/index-js.jsp) has given Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare a mature rating as seen on both the official website (http://www.charlieoscardelta.com/) as well as the latest videos for the game. The reasons for the M rating are as follows: Blood and gore, intense violence, and strong language.

Most of this nasty stuff occurs during the SP campaign, in case anyone is wondering.

The team at IW, when asked about possibly receiving an "M" rating back at the June preview, basically replied that "We're finally making the game we want to make. If it gets an M, it gets an M."

Half-Life 2 also got an "M"...and did, oh, pretty good. ;)

Lol, this isn't gonna stop anyone under 17 from getting it. I'm under 17 and own CoH.

Very true.

If anything, it will encourage MORE under-age players to get it. As soon as you tell someone "you can't have this", well, we all know what happens... ;)

Yeah, it's the same with every other thing that's age-restricted.

Screw you fat *** it's the ESRB's jobs not to release inappropriate games to little kids who can be affected by anything. And you think that a little "red" pixels and bad words aint gonna affect them? People are retartred nowadays 80% of the guys at my school think it would be fun to kill someone, because all they realize is that blood spurt from them and they die. And for the language? So what everybody uses it? its horrible that every1 does, now everything is "**** this" or "**** that" or "What the ****s going on" It ruins peoples vocabulary and makes them annoying as hell to be around because they are only cussing or saying "Like" after everyword because they are mindless and dont think when they talk. Worlds screwed up enough and ESRB is doing their part to try and keep it a tad together.

P.S (Still getting it woot! love CoD especially BF2, this is gonna be a game made from gods, mixing BF2 with CoD :) )

I just watched the movie misery after I read the book and I have to say that was like almost the exact same reaction that the woman had at his book. Btw im only 15 and will most likely get this game.

I'm 13, and I haven't been "affected" at all. I knew every curse in the book (that means every curse in existence not every curse in a book) before I had even heard of FPS games. I don't think it would be "fun" to kill someone, far from it. It's obvious you just think anyone who happens to be younger than you are just inferior. How about you do yourself a favor, and stop posting sh!t like you just did?

And about my English, I almost never say "like", "everyword" needs a space, it's "retarded", not "retartred", and you need to stop using netspeak and put a "one" at the end of every instead of the numeral.

dude, its the internet im just gettgin my message across, not worrying about spelling. Also after re-reading yes i over-reacted, actually way over reacted, but its just there is so much crime and bullcrap going on im worried about whats going to happen to our generation in the future. Long story short i was thinking way to big and not to the post.

A child gets more exposure at school to cuss words than in a video game. My parents know that. This is why they let me, at 13, play M+ games and watch R rated movies without a care. They know it will do me no good by restricting them. I never curse at school and never have wanted to kill someone.

And most stores don't even care about the rating when I buy a game. When I wanted to get GeoW, me and my friend went to EB Games. We just came from the movies, and we are both 13. Not old enough. I pick up the game, hand it to the cashier, and he says to me, "You know this game is very bloody, right?" I say, "Yes." He doesn't care from that point on. If he is getting a sale, who cares about ESRB.

Don't be. There has been violence on the radio since the days of the Depression. Violence on TV since the days of black and white. Violence in movies since the days of silent films. We used to play with cap guns as kids. With plastic (and wood) bows and arrows. We'd use sticks as swords and duel it out. Fighting video games have been around for a very long time too.

If someone's a kook, it's just a matter of time before any sort of stimulus sets them off. Could be a game, could be something else. Could be a person acting rude to them one day.

Blame lazy PARENTS for not properly teaching kids the differnce between right and wrong. Don't blame the different forms of media.

Yes, i would even like for an 18+ rating

Why?

1. I am 18+
2. Lots of blood and things allowed (dreams back to SOF2 :D)
3. Everyone under 18 will still be able to get it anyway (unless u live in some very hypocrit USA city, which i say: move the heck to Holland :D)
4. Hopefully it will keep people under 13 away, so less chance of those bastards that act like children, like they do in BF2 (still have the big children though)

Most of you have already mentioned stuff like this, but the M rating definately won't keep away those under 17. Most parents do little research when buying their kids games and just spoil the hell outta them, and then proceed to criticize the game developers for the content. The ESRB warns you of the game's content, and if you buy the game anyway for your kid that is your choice. Do some **** research before making purchases.

Excuse me, but why would any sane person want to "keep out" people under 17? It's not like they can help being that age.

He's not saying the rating is designed or on purpose to keep out people under 17 from IW's side. He's just saying that those under 17 will still find a way to get the game (just like kids can still find cigs and booze if they really want to), so that rating isn't that important or useful.

The ESRB, on the other hand, wants to keep out those under 17 because the game contains content that is considered "adult". The rating is supposed to be a warning to parents to be aware of what's in it, and not blindly buy the game.

Dude... it can totally screw up kids minds.... have you ever talked to some kid who listens to a bunch of cuss-filled music or whatever and is constantly exposed to bad language? THEY SOUND LIKE ILLITERATE CAVEMEN WEINERHEADS. And as for the red pixels (THATS CALLED BLOOD), in my opinion, it doesn't matter.... but I know a lot of parents don't like their kids being exposed to people bleeding everywhere, especially after their child just clicked a button to kill them. Half of the kids who play these games have the I.Q.'s of that of a carrot. What I'm saying is that many kids under 17 really are so dumb that they don't know what is ok and what isn't. If one of those retards gets out in the real world with a desert eagle or something, they might just think its normal to kill and whatnot. I hope one gets you someday, MORGAN. Sucks for me cause I'm only 14 and my parents are very strict about the language thing. It doesn't bother me because I am always around it at school, but I don't use it. I would try what Davis said but somehow my mother knows everything I do, so I'm gonna try to convince her that I can turn off the language, thats what I did with Gears of War. ;)

Gibson[75thR]

Actually, most kids are smart enough to know what is right and what isn't, because they are aware of the consequences. Other factors, such as peer pressure, are more influencing than videogames.

Well there are plenty of ADULTS who would get screwed up as well. But no one's trying to restrict them buying it. While maybe there are more younger people than older people who might get screwed up by games, that's not the point. What I'm saying is that it's completely wrong to not allow someone to buy something based on something like age. For example: There are probably more men who would get messed up by games than women, but does that make it right to restrict what games men can buy?
