The guys from PMods (http://www.pmods.net/) have recently had an interview with a few of the members of the Eve of Destruction (http://www.eodmod.com/forum/portal.php) mod. Here's a portion from the article as well as some new screens:

[Pmods]Wraxe: After briefly converting to BFV, the mod was converted to BF2. Did you think of that conversion as a constraint or as a new productive run-up?

[EoD]Spicy: Tough question, but i think the whole idea was to bring the mod to the new engine with some old stuff and some new stuff.

[EoD]taichi: BF2 does allow for more possibilities, but at the same time, the engine being updated constantly (like BF2142 for example) does make it hard for modders to keep up with the latest engines but overall, the better the engine, the better the mod will be. Looks cool. I was a big fan of EOD for BF1942.

I don't know though... I had my fair share of Vietnam in BFV. Somehow I get the feeling that EOD's efforts will not result in as large of a following as before, unless of course the quality surpasses that of BFV so much that it will feel completely different.

IMHO, the key to their success is really capturing the Battlefield: Vietnam era and giving the game a completely original feel (seperate from BFV).

Sometimes it's good to focus the game on movies because they capture the era very well. I believe BFV was focused on several movies about Vietnam.

I never played BFV, so I'm not influenced by it.

I enjoyed EoD much more than BFv. Mainly cause the feel was diffrent. BFv did no justice to EoD, its a shame BFv had to come out and destroy EoD's chance's of becoming a extremely popular mod. I will be deffintly be playing this mod.

The only good thing about BFV was the weapon handling, but even that didn't help maps with circle-of-death helicopters. EoD plans on being much more realistic than BFV in stuff like helicopters and such, its also even more infantry based.

I honestly don't think it will be that hard for EOD to surpass BFV in quality at all. But you are very right in that I think most people not familiar with it will overlook it because "I already played BFV." As far as differentiating from BFV, I think the whole tone, pace, and map design is a complete 180 from BFV. I thought BFV was very fast paced and cartoony, EOD always seemed very serious and dark, brutal even, and sported brilliant map design.
I don't think it's for everyone, but judging from '42 they have quality product here.
