The team behind the Point of Existence 2 (http://www.pointofexistence.com/) mod is back today with a lot of news to share with everyone. They are showing off some more media as well as have released the server files for PoE2. Here's what they had to say:

Welcome to another PoE update! Just a reminder that the big day will be Sat Aug 26th. But in the run up to the weekend we continue our media blitz filled with unseen ingame content, server files release, torrent release and other events occuring this such as an IRC chat interview with the testers and developers of the mod, and FragTV action all headed your way in the coming days along with TONS of new media updates that will be posted in our Interactive Developer forums.

All week long we will be showing off lots of random ingame screenshots taken by our testers, these will be displayed in the interactive section (http://www.pointofexistence.com/forums/index.php?showforum=80) of our forums. We invite our fans to register on the site and check those out.

Today we will have both linux and windows files available. We want to get these out so servers have plenty of time to get those servers set up and be ready for the big release day. We have recently created a new forum section called Server Support (http://www.pointofexistence.com/forums/index.php?showforum=87) where you can ask any questions you may have about the server files or the new launcher. For todays news, we had the pleasure of having Narco and Schetter from FragTV play on out test server last night with several of the developers and testers, this gameplay was also broadcast live via FragTV which created alot of buzz in the IRc channels, however if you missed that you can checkout the archive footage of our little battle on the map "Fallen" below.

Next for you we have an ingame shot of a column of German Pzh2000 mobile artillery pieces, this image has been touched up slightly by Geledonutt and would make a great wallpaper.

Thats great news. Im pretty sure DCON and POE2 are the only MODs to have player guided arty. We all know how great the commander arty is, lol.

This should be fun times. I hope 1.4 doesnt scerw anything up, :rolleyes: .

I tried opening in IE and got a little further (was able to see the wmp controls hit ready showed connecting but thats it) tried opening url in media player but got a bad codec error, must be me but oh well...watched the arty video...damn good stuff

the server files are for any one who wants to host a server for POE / any other mod ect.

you just put the poe2 folder into the mod folder in your BF2 server folder then you set up BF2CC or w/e to run the mod :)

For all those nay sayers I say POE2 arty is only 10000000x better than vannilas. And of course thier wont be a shortage of people using it because its a new feature :p

oh and fragtv doesnt work for me, but the arty was still good enough for me

I bet the arty in POE2 will end up being used the same way as it was in DC on pubs--as a tank buster. There's simply not enough cooperation on pubs for people to go around spotting for the arty and its probably why DICE put commander arty in the game.
That's why the Battlefield veterans don't like the new arty. Just because it's difficult to get done, doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. Making things over-simplified and easy forces a loss of the "magical" moments of the game.

Making things difficult in certain areas is what makes the game fun because you can actually become good at something. There are very few 1337 players in BF2 because they cannot realize the full potential of their 1337ness since everything is just too easy. This is why "frogging" and "fish flopping" is so prevailent ... it's the only thing that takes some effort when playing infantry (vehicles take no effort whatsoever).

EDIT: Who remembers practicing flying the Little Bird on Lost Village in DC? Diving into the city and flying through the streets (between buildings) at full speed. Now that was awesome! :D

**** that commander mode ****. I hated that since bf2 was made. I doubt it will work like no tank buster. I am sure you have to have a singal before even lauching. What army would some idiot launch arty into a random location with no idea what hes shooting at.
Commanders on every server use arty to launch on one person. That type of asset should be saved. Sometimes they even launch it in a middle of a squad. Example: Flag goes white, from one guy. We kill the guy on the ground, 5 seconds later the commander sees a white flag and puts arty on it. Result? We don't get the flag back because we were artyed by our own idiotic commander. 90% of your commanders do not work as a team. You request it on a squad of enemies he denies it and drops it on a lone guy running up the steps, and doesn't even kill the guy. Its almost as bad as some idiot lauching a tv guided missile into a group of infantry then turning around and see a vodnik and actually need the missile.

I'm kind of disappointed they are stringing it out like this. I hope it gets hyped up more, the more servers the better. Just don't like the wait for it. RELEASE NOW!

Yes, but it would be nice if the spotter could communicate whit the artillery officer whitout being in the same squad. Just by spotting they open up a channel.

But this is probobly "hardcoded" like Rhino likes to say

Too bad you undermined your sound-guy with that crappy rock music, what's the point of the guy doing all the work for sounds if you're gonna overlay your videos with ****ty cliche music so we can't even hear what the game is like. But that's just my opinion....do what you guys want. ;)

Edit: A way to prevent the arty-tank-thingy from becoming a 1337 in-visual-range tankbuster (basically a tank with one hit kill) would be to make it slow/weak, so that it won't get into the mix.

my favourite addition to BF2 has always been the varios assist points you can get, damage assist, driver assist etc.

Point1.

It looks the same as Bf1942 arty, except its a top down view instead of an, above and towards target from the spotter.

If so, goes something like this -

Spotter spots target - arty guy estimates first shot > camera follows shot in, > arty guy adjusts elevation and windage and fires again > keeps doing this until target is destroyed (or in bf1942 spotter dies or timer runs out and needs respotted)

Point 2.

One of the PoE devs is trying to get the archive for the fragTV - think the link is too a live video feed.

Point 3.

Wouldnt be surprised if they follow the Bf1942 example again, of having arty slow and weak armoured as you say. Arty was more of an ambush tool for tank killing, where as a tank can manouvre better and kill arty with a low amount of hits.

Let's not forget that in real life certain mobile artillery is used as fortified anti tank cannot at times.

I'm 99% sure that the mobile artillery in POE will have a very slow turrent speed and long reload time... just like in POE1 and DC.

1. Spotting for arty was great in back in the DC/DCX/1942/POE days.

2. Someone will be in the arty always waiting for a spot.

3. Who cares about points in a mod?

4. Play to win the map.

5. if there is going to be a "push/supply lines" type of game play arty will be used and important.

6. If you don't like things about mods play vanilla, or another mod you like.

7. Who cares if its used against a tank, don't they use arty to take out tank positions?

the torrent file released tomorrow will be password protected. On saturday, the password for the files will be released, so everyone can start playing at once. This way everyone can have the client installation ready and waiting on their computer, instead of hving to wait for hours and hours on saturday, waiting in line to download it.

For those who don't have the torrent file, on Saturday, a non-passworded file will be released at the same time the password for the torrent is given. These people will have to wait until the download is complete before they play.

You have two choices on how to obtain the installation, get it now and wait for password, or wait until saturday and wait in line to download while others are already playing it.

the link to the video of the fragtv on fallen map has been updated since this morning (est) its a good show i would suggest watching it :)
i did try to up it to youtube but it is in a .asf format and everytime i upload it it doesnt showup on the page even after saying it has completed, i guess they dont take that format.
i will see about converting it but wouldnt want to mess up the quality so i may leave that to someone else.
so go to our site at http://www.pointofexistence.com/ and click the fragtv image in teh newspost, i will also forward the file to tbf2 staff so maybe they can host it or they can grab it themselves whatever works best. :)

I rem bfvpoe and the arty it was awesome u could pound the front line or defend .I got quiet good and could hit them from 800+meters ..1/2 a mile away and i shot 90% damage them in defence mode and whats better is its destroyable and seeable not like rain from nowhere in bf2:rolleyes: (and yes i know u can detroy it but its 5km/miles away:rolleyes: ).

this is my idea of a good game :cool:

does it have uav ???????i dont really like that either?except on choppers and mobile anti-air.

hope it has anti-air cannons instead of missiles and hope it has hand held sams too.

Well it looks like a great MOD, and I cant wait to play it.

Most of us hoped that BF2 would be a Desert Combat part 2. POE2 has absolutely no resemblance to Desert Combat in any way. I hope its a great MOD, but I am still waiting for what I hoped BF2 would be. :wall:

Use a zip password cracker...many out there, haven't seen a password it can't crack....google is a wonderful thing.
