Point of Existence 2 v1.0.0 (Passworded) Released

Well as promised in their last update, the Point of Existence 2 (http://www.pointofexistence.com/) mod team has released their passworded client file through torrent today. They also have a load of information to keep you busy until Saturday! Take a look:

Now, alot of people have been asking questions about Seigman and Mach10's artillery system that was shown in our last news update. To answer these questions and to tell you more about the weapons, vehicles and other features of Point of Existence:2, Ziggy and [tR]Greasy_Mullet have been working on an online manual for the mod. Not only will you find everything you will need to know about the game itself in this manual, but also how to set up your PoE:2 server (http://www.pointofexistence.com/pns/PN/html/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=76). If you have any more questions regarding setting up a PoE:2 server, please don't hesitate to ask them in our Server Support (http://www.pointofexistence.com/forums/index.php?showforum=87) section on the main forums.

Those who have already succesfully set up their server, can post them in this thread (http://www.pointofexistence.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8105) on our forums. This is also a good spot to find a server located near you to play on once PoE:2 has been released. For a complete overview of PoE2 servers, you can also check this ever expanding list (http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?rulename=gamevariant&ruleval=poe2&game=bf2&pg=1) of servers on the Game monitor (http://www.game-monitor.com/) website.

This brings us to the next item, and that is the release of the passworded client torrent files! With these files you can have the PoE:2 client downloaded and ready once we release the password next Saturday, so you won't have to search for a download that isn't getting bogged down. To download them you need a bittorrent client such as Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/) or uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/).

Finally, this Saturday we will be releasing the password for the torrent client and the standard unpassworded .zip files. Feel free to join the release party in our IRC channel #pointofexistencemod. The party starts at 11am PST (2pm EST, 7PM UK, 8PM CET) with the password and client file download links being released an hour later at 12 midday PST (3pm EST, 8pm UK, 9pm CET)

Sorry , first password torrent .

Whatever program you use to open the .zip file should prompt you for a password before it allows you to extract the files.
So:
Download Torrent > Get Password > Open .zip > Extract > Play

Whats crashing and where? Our testers and the devs alike have been visiting servers for the last 2 nights checking to make sure things are running smooth for the admins. Over 100 servers been tested and not one has crashed!

During download I had my upload speed capped at 50kb/s and I got a download rate of 550kb/s for the majority of my download which only took about thirty minutes. I've now increased my upload cap to 200kb/s.

Hypernia deserves the hits! Without them we wouldnt have gotten this far! They sponsor us mulitple server boxes that would cost thousands of dollars per mnth, to purchase out right! Give credit where credit is due!

Thats a good point. Remember that these MODs are free, but have strings attached, lol. There is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes thatn the public will ever see, thats for sure.

Good point LOBO. Its by far the smartest way to release a product early. All MOD groups should follow this path, if they havent already.

In the long run, it actually helps with DLs being clogged, since the Freak Junkies get the jump on the general crowd that doesnt follow the progress moment to moment. DCON will do it the same way, it doesnt make any sense not to. :cool:

I would say that most MOD teams are dreaming of a KAOS studios end result, and we get a great free MOD in the meantime. Sounds like a win win for both sides to me. LEts be honest though, most arent doing it simply as a donation of good faith to the fans.

Oh, btw, use the torrent guys. My download rate was over 250 kb/s for most of the time. It took approximately 1h 22m for the download to complete. Using the torrent will give you much faster speeds and will reduce the load on the FTP servers provided.

Won't work, the cd key can only be used once and it's tied to the system it was used with. You're not missing much anyway, trust me.

Just double click the .zip, add the password, and extract it to its own folder. Then launch the installer. I assume with all the time and care, that the POE team has created a complete installer package. :cool:
