Hello,
I've been a fan since the first CoD and have spent many hours with friends playing CoD and CoD2, and I can't wait for this sequel!
But as my first post here, I'd like to raise an important issue that many PC players have certainly thought about.
Do you think that CoD4 being a multiplatform game will have negative impact on the PC title, mostly regarding gameplay as graphics seem a non-issue. I know plenty of shooters that have been really dumbed down due to being optimized for controllers, this includes mostly interface, but also movement mechanics (like leaning) and damage/health ratio (due to the harder aiming with a controller).
Any thoughts?

Yes, IMO CoD4 could be better had it been developed for just the PC. The first thing that comes to my mind is time. Much more time could be spent making a better game on one platform than splitting resources to work out other platforms.

There are some compromises, I'll agree, but I think they are minor. Mostly related to the limited control scheme a controller introduces along with the lack of precision aiming.
MS want to make it easy for developers to release the same game for both the 360 and PC. They know most gamers will only buy the game for one platform, so they want to make sure they cover as much market share as possible.
CoD4 (and other current multi-platform games) have been designed from day one with the strengths and weaknesses of each platform in mind. Go play the PC version of the original Halo if you want to see a bad PC port. Knowing you're going to launch on multiple platforms at the same time means you take that into consideration during the design process. There is a reason the 360 got a beta test and the PC didn't. IW know how to make a great PC shooter. Consoles are new ground for them, so they wanted a public stress test to make sure they had everything right.

Since we haven't seen the PC version in action yet, it's too early to tell. Most PC and Console games are developed simultaneously with code-sharing these days...only if a developer doesn't make enough changes specifically to the PC version will it suffer. I'm giving IW the benefit of the doubt until they show me otherwise.

Well we've seen it on a couple of the perk vids, but we need to try it out too ;)

IW said they were developing them separately, so they won't be ports. But I still expect they are sharing codes.
Like Whiskey says, we really don't know until more videos are released or we get to play it.

For those who like FPS's on Computers, they will get it for the PC. The 360 Gamers and PS3 gamers who prefer them on their consoles, will buy them for consoles.
Quite franquely, I don't think the PC version will suffer much at all, I have 360 but I prefer FPS's a lot more on PC

Unless a game is developed seperately for each platform, I have seen some games suffer. Look at RS:V. NO wide screen res. (I have 1440:900.......is not in game) Very few "key commands", and NO quick-save options,third-person duck-n-cover.
Once a game is ready to put on each platform, I think they must develope it seperately. Even UBI-Soft learned that one.Well.........sort of.:(
This not about PC vs Console. Just that each platform has unique features that gamers want. Especially the MP side of PC on-line gaming.

None of us have played the game on PC yet, so we will really have no idea if the consoles made a difference.
Lets just all hope the developers realized that they need to seperate the games.

You are forgetting that even if some controls get watered down for PC (which I doubt in general--the cod control scheme was never very complex), they will have soooo much more money for development of the game simply from the console sales that it will be a much bigger, better and tighter game overall. You do realize that Activision will sell something like 5-10 games on the consoles for every PC game they sell, right?

I have seen some console videos, I have to say I'm very impressed but hopefully the PC version will have better game play and GFX.

Being a CoD virgin; I'm a little apprehensive about the game play. It appears a bit too much spray and pray, which I would attribute to the console game-play. Where as, for comparison sake, BF2 was on the PC first then went to the console with BF2: MC. On PC it is a huge game with loads of room to move and even on the console (although far more arcade-y) you're still not stepping on top of one another all the time.

All CoD games that I've played are pretty much spray and pray unless you're good with a rifle, in which case you can WTFPWN everybody.
