FourZeroTwo, community manager for Call of Duty 4, has posted a PC update for the game over in the Infinity Ward forums (http://www.infinityward.com/community/forum/index.php) today. Check it out:

Wanted to give you guys some more PC specific updates. Today, as I discussed last week, we have a member of the Shock'N'Awe clan in to test on the PC. We had him run through the Min specs for a few missions earlier in the morning and then upgraded him to a machine that fit his specs at home to see what he thought. He's currently playing through the entire single-player campaign on machine specs similar to what he plays with at home.

This is helping us hone in on a final decision on our min specs for PC as well as gather feedback overall on the game.

A lot of you have been asking for more info on the PC demo, at this time I still can't give any details on dates or what will be included in the demo but there is still one coming for the PC. It will arrive before we launch, but I can't give you an exact date, as soon as I can tell you when to expect it I will. You know it's soon, considering we launch Nov. 5th and it has to come out before we launch. It'll be plenty of time for you guys to play through it and have a great impression of what to expect in Nov.

We're testing more Mod support for the PC today, playing a few different mods created in-house by some of the team. Mod support is going really well for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which is going to make customizing the game to your team / server 's liking that much easier. We were playing a mod earlier this week that allowed easy and quick customization of games by limiting weapons / classes / perks. For example, we played a game of Assault / LMG Classes only; then another game of Assault and Snipers only.

This is great for those of you who want very specific games running on your servers or for competitive gamers. All made possible through a quick and easy mod we've been calling Call of Duty 4: MODwarfare.

That's pretty much been our main focus recently, is heavily focused on these PC specific features and functions to really fine tune before launch since we don't have to submit to certification for anyone for PC so we have that extra time line to give it this special attention.

Nice to hear an update for the PC version. Thanks to our member Whiskey for the news.

And, no mention of gold...

Seems the Worthplaying article of a rumered "Gold for CoD4" is shot to pieces.
Why would a webpage post crap if they don't have the facts?

Awesome news from 402!

Nice to read some info specific for the PC crowd.

And that a demo isn't far away.................;)

I suspect the demo would be released roughly between Oct.14th - Oct.21st

If earlier, rock on but I doubt it :(

Good news though, regardless :)

Fileplanet paid subscribers will notice that they are now able to "reserve" a COD4 PC Demo through the Download Manager. ;) Date is still TBD, however, and it is only doing automatic checks once a day right now, so it's still obviously a bit of a way's off.

Really cool update. After all the news on 360 only, it's nice to see some PC attention. That mean the mod tools are being shipped on release? Custom maps out the gate instead of a six month wait like last time?

402 followed up saying that they may or may not get the tools out for release, but are pushing to get them out ASAP for the community to start creating their own content.

To get more hits or possibly misinformed.

Please don't tell me this will be a fileplanet only thing. I hate their site layout and how it works. (I don't think it will be though)

The COD4 demo will likely be available on many sites, as most other game demos are. Sometimes, they get released "exclusively" on one site first, but then mirror sites pop up within 30-90 minutes or so.

Fileplanet paid subscribers often have the chance to "reserve" demos...all this does is allow them to download it early (ie. maybe a day or even just a few hrs), and it sits on their PC as a locked zip file.

It becomes unlocked and ready to install/play the moment the "regular" demo becomes released to the public to download. So, it basically saves subscribers the 2 or 3 hrs or so that it takes the public to download the demo when it's released. It's not a huge perk (no pun intended ;) )...it only gets you the demo a few hrs early.

I have no idea if COD4 will be exclusive to Fileplanet or not...but even if they are, again, mirror sites (eg. Filefront, GamersHell, AusGamers, Gamespot, etc) will have the game too, not very long afterward.

Yep, I reserved Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament 3. They both are listed as Uncomfirmed though so I am guessing they may not even be available for pre-download.

I'm guessing Activision would have servers up for the demo the moment it comes out right?

Or would people be buying the servers?

There's no confirmation yet that it's an MP demo. It could just be SP.

I didn't even think of that...

Haven't the last Call of Duty demos both been SP? Or am I thinking of something else?

I know COD2 put out a SP demo...not sure about MP, but I don't think so.

I got into UO after it came out, so I don't know about that one.

I hope the demo contains MP. I can live without a SP demo since that isn't the game mode I'll be playing all the time (or anyone else probably).

Either way.................it will be nice to see "IF" it works on some of our systems.
Choice of upgrade for this game............or upgrade to Vista in a big way..............:)
