Sniper's Thread

Hey guys,
I know that CoD4 made a big point with the sniper's ghillie suit, but I haven't heard much else about sniping in the game (I may have not seen a specific video, so please don't kill me if I ask some stupid questions).

But a few ideas and questions still floated around in my head such as:

-Will the sniper be able to choose if he has a ghillie suit?
(For example, you may not want one in a more urban map)

-Will the sniper be able to hold his breath?

-Will the ghillie suit be adjustable for weather? i.e. color

-Will the bullet leave a trail? (I hate games that do this)

Along with these questions, I've always liked having a good thread for discussing everything that relates to sniping.
So feel free to also discuss your possible:

-Tactics
-Playing style (stealth? CQS?)
-Desired Weapon

No.

Yes, for the stock scopes. You can't hold your breath while using an ACOG.

Don't think you can actively change it. (Probably just changes depending on the map)
-Will the bullet leave a trail? (I hate games that do this)
If you're talking Halo bullet trail, then no.

Btw, please don't be one of those snipers who grabs an M21 and spams bullets till their target dies. Use a bolt.

Yes, I love bolt rifles...

But I may just watch Black Hawk Down prior to playing and m21 whore ;)

*Even with semi's I always go for headshots.

Bolt rifles are also my favorite weapons evah, I like those ideas that you mention Aerialz, but since after you kill someone they instantly see where you are,I don't see the role of the sniper to be that affective anymore, unless you're willing to move every time your get a kill.

Anyways, I thought the kill-cam was a server side option... Idk, in Quake Wars it shows where you shot them from, but I still find sniping extremely effective, so I'm hoping that will carry over to CoD4.

Kill cam is server side, but I haven't actually found out if it's changeable for a ranked server. Either way sniping is more difficult in CoD games simply because of the small map sizes.

I'm pretty sure you can hold your breath. You've been able to in past COD games and I think I've seen him hold his breath in one of the videos.

Dude that's BS, how the heck do you think a sniper should defend himself if he's got some M249 guy behind him, a pistol will not match it, so semi auto will save him, although a good sniper won't be seen!

Anyways, I see nothing wrong with using a semi, and francly I think it helps alot if you got more then one target, real snipers wouldn't shoot more then once in quick repitition.

So bassically urban maps you'll want semi, large maps you'll want bolt.

Well there's a difference between using a semi as a regular sniper and unloading a clip with a sniper-accurate, no recoil, 1-2 hit kill weapon in under 2 seconds on the run.

Doesn't the hardcore game mode take away both the Kill cams and the radar? Man that would suck if you couldn't play a harder match and still be ranked. If anything; it should give a higher score for playing in a harder setting...

Semi-auto for the win. Why limit yourself to single fire just to be "fair"?

In the map sizes we'll be getting for MP an M4 can kill at almost any range possible, so the snipes need some extra firepower.

I dunno, we'll see when push comes to shove how well it fits in.

The real noob sounding combo IMO is M249+Deep Penetration. Get the UAV on, see the dot, spray and pray, but this time through walls!

Idk, like I said before, it depends on my mood:

Example:
Playing Battlefield 2, if I feel like being sneaky and being unseen, I use a bolt.

If I want to do some urban combat, I'll use an m14 (in a mod) and hold off groups of people *reminds me of Black Hawk Down
