First impression COD4

well my first impression is that the graphics are amazing and game play is alright. The game play diffrent than the cod3 and way better graphics phisics are amazing aswell but I just wanted say that overall they did a great job but it was a way to short of a map.

I have a 7800, so I run medium, but the graphics still look amazing.
Gameplay is very intense, especially in the first building with all the lasers pointing in it as you run through it.

I also love the ability to shoot through walls and easily swap weapons - and running with the pistol is nice.

The gameplay is a lot faster than I expected, and I felt the mission was a bit too short.

I also love the death animations, the enemies firing as they fall down - spinning, etc.

Controls - I reconfigured a few, but my worst note is that I hate the insta-throw grenade, confuses the hell out of me.

yea i like how they fall lol so realism I think. It is way to fast but we got to remember its only single player demo I think it will change when MP

I loved it. Well this demo mission is kinda short, but all the action and the mayhem happenin. Im definetly gonna buy this game.

First impressions after 1 quick run-through:

THAT was friggin' cool. The graphics are superb, IMO. Level is a bit short, but intense. Lots to see and do. I found the audio really immersive.

There's a crapload of different weapons scattered throughout the level, both from your own guys, and stuff the enemies abandon or drop when killed. Quick list of what I saw: M16, M4, G3, AK47, RPG-7, M9 pistol, Dragunov Sniper Rifle, W1200 shottie, RPK-type MG. You can drop your pistol, and swap for one of these to carry 2 primary weaps and play around with them. Different weapons have different recoil levels (AK47 is pretty significant, M4 is pretty tight) and different sights (including the red-dot).

Mini-map comes up when you press TAB for your objectives screen. Night vision. Flash bangs are pretty cool to stun the enemy for a couple seconds and put 'em down. And I got the satisfaction of shooting a couple of guys through the weak cover they were behind. That was fun. Oh, and let's not forget THE JAVELIN! W00t! :laugh:

Don't be afraid to play around with your graphics/details settings. It is supposed to be fairly kind to even mid-lower rigs. Enable the console in the options, the press ~ to activate it in-game, and put in: cg_drawFPS 1 to see your frame-rate on-screen.

My one complaint - the crosshairs turning red when on an enemy. Very handy when in night vision mode, but still makes things a bit easy on the player.

My 10 page demo review( played on medium)

It has a very arcade-like feel. The demo had lots of mayhem, some of the scripted stuff was cool too, but the freedom is very limited, there is nothing special in COD4 . I like it, but it's just another FPS, nothing special enough to buy it for me. On a plus side, it is very well optimized :)

Well I turned my crosshairs off as soon as I saw the option lol. I played through twice, first time I forgot to take screenies, however the second time i got a few.

Sorry Davis, that was a typo. Should've been "M4". You start with the grenade launcher version, but can acquire the non-launcher versions as well.

Well, I have no opinion. I know its a great game, but the game play element was lessened by my graphics. My PC is nowhere near the min. requirements, so I'm playing on the lowest resolution with all lows. And a bad FPS.

Guess its 360 version for me :(

What i managed to look at the FPS, they were around 30 with x1950Pro... I know it could be more but it's because of my processor(1.8GHz Sempron 3400+). Or atleast i think so...

I discovered that SVD on the first run. And i gotta say the "death animations" are just awesome. You shoot the enemy like 3-4 times all around the body with the SVD and you see his body react to every shot, then he empties his clip while falling down on his knees/ground.

First off, I have to say coming from the Crysis Beta, the graphics are nothing special. BUT, I am able to play @ 1600x1200 everything maxed without dropping below 40 FPS which is awesome compared to Crysis's current state. One thing I noticed is that the auto rifles are a lot less accurate than previous CoD games when moving and not ADS. Hopefully this will eliminate "spray and pray" for the most part. I'm definitely going to be playing this demo a lot :).

im loving it, this could be my new game. i found it to play pretty smooth for all that eye candy, i don't think sli is properly working yet in the demo but i cant complain, it looks sick on 2 8800's maxed at 1920x1200 and its keeping a steady 85-90 fps under very heavy action and thats very good for all the eye candy this game contains, you almost have to stop for a second to appreciate it all.

it does have a feel of some weird texture filter overlaying everything though, just like medal of honor airborne, i cant put my finger on it but its got to be the same filter airborne used.

this is a must buy for everyone.

If you haven't played CoD4 multiplayer you're comparing apples to oranges. Battlefield is not a single player game.

Personally I was unimpressed with the gameplay. It's the same scripted nonsense that every CoD game has ever had. "Go here and press F" "Go there and press F" etc etc.

Based on the single player demo alone, I'm probably going to pass on this game b/c there's just nothing different about it than any other CoD except the weapons and some pretty new graphics. I've said it many times already, but release a multiplayer demo please.

I am enjoying the very fast loading time for this game.

Even with my Athlon 64 3200+; ATI 1600X (and some lower settings) I am getting middle 30FPS and sometimes higher. 1440X900 lcd. Very impressive.
I am wanting the FULL GAME now...................

yeah, wow i don't even know what to say. Best demo i've ever played in my life, blew my mind. My computer is decent(ge force 7600, 1gig ram), and i was able to run it on highest resolution widescreen with pretty medium-high settings, and there was no lag at all.

The graphics are gorgeous, the textures and reflections, the lighting, its perfect. It plays just like any other call of duty, in the way that it's mayham, massive ammounts of enemies flying at you from every direction.

Im going to play it again in afew minutes using the all weapons code, and take some screenshots.

Im going to pre-order it right now.

I loved it. I currently running it on my crappy rig but I go to back to my gaming rig tomorrow so I'll have to test out the graphics then.

All in all, great fun glad to see COD make the leap to modern warfare.


To those complaining about the length...remember its a demo. Its only purpose is to wet our appetites not give us a full mission.

I have already been killed twice by enemy's who are doing that "Last Stand" action, crawling away and shooting with a handgun, i am now actually Shooting to Wound (instead of Shoot to Kill) in order to see them crawl and then finisch them off qith my handgun. :evil:

First impression? Awesome! It has been a long damn time since I've played a SP FPS, mostly just online multi-player. Having never played any of the CoD's to date, I was blown away by the level of realism. With my headphones on I actually found myself ducking a few times.

I have almost the bare minimum specs with a 6600 gfx card but the game, even with almost everything turned off, still looks great. I'll be upgrading to 3g's of RAM soon and I hope that will help with some of the choppiness, but I found most of the laggy times I was trying to run something in the background too.

The one thing I was disappointed about was that the game didn't recognize my G5 so I couldn't use my thumb button for nades or steadying my aim. Other than that, I've been playing only the BF series so the keys and interactions will take a bit to get used to. For example; I found myself dead on the ground several times before I figured out that I could pick up an enemy grenade and toss it back. Also I love the flash bangs! Toss one in a room and round the corner with the M203…such fun!! And (running off at the mouth here) the fact that the baddies don’t always die and can still shoot you while they’re down…WTF? Holy crap that’s cool!

I was impressed with the SP demo. I hope the MP action is good because that is what will make or break this game. So far, they are right on the money!

However, I will want to play a MP demo before purchasing.
