man, i'm fighting with the game in order to start it ... reinstalled directx and now I have a new problem. (already updated my NVidia display drivers). After I start the game, i get the start screen and then this message:

"----- Initializing Renderer ----
----- Client Initialization Complete -----
Attempting 44 kHz 16 bit [Windows default] sound
----- R_Init -----
Getting Direct3D 9 interface...
Pixel shader version is 2.0
Vertex shader version is 2.0
Video card or driver doesn't support separate alpha blend, glow will be disabled.

Error during initialization:
Video card or driver doesn't support separate alpha blend, glow will be disabled."

PLEASE HELP/Advise.
I'm running:
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 (Microsoft Corporation)
Display Memory: 256.0 MB
Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz)

minimum specs:

Video card (generic): NVIDIA(R) Geforce(TM) 6600 or better or ATI(R) Radeon(R) 9800Pro or better

I don't think the 5 series is supported. Even if you could get it working it would run like crap, probably 10-15 frames on lowest settings.

You could try to reinstall your video drivers, first uninstall from control panel, then use driver sweeper(google it) in safe mode to fully remove left over files from your older drivers, then reboot out of safe mode back in regular windows mode and install latest nvidia drivers. Goodluck, you'll need it with that card.

I guess it's time to move it to my new laptop ;).

... besides, I needed an excuse to upgrade this ***** computer. got it for free so I can't complain too much. . . . . . Now to work on a plan to buy upgrades without the lady noticing packages coming in.

can't do pickup, as i use newegg or pricewatch, but I think I'll just have it shipped to a different address ... maybe even ask a friend to pay for all and I"ll give him cash.

heck that could work, and as g/f doesn't know much about comps I"ll just tell her that it's some cheap comp that friend doesn't need. ... I'm brilliant ;) ...
And to top it off, I got a never used case, so I'll just tell her I'm gonna move his old stuff to it, as he's upgrading. :D

ps. loptop is working fine ... but as normal with laptops, you can find lag.
