View Full Version : JALALABAD tips for MEC

Jeez Its a bit unbalanced. After putting a few hours in i still don't think i've won as mec, though a few were close. Had a lot of fun trying and dying.

Anyway heres a few things I've picked up.

The city itself does only have 2 entry points so these have to be well defended. I found a little patient c4ing was able to stop a lot of the cars coming through. At the northen entry there is a nice staircase and building that has a view of the approaches to the city, as well as overlooking a few flags. (sorry no screens)

Snipers dominate the rooftops and this is an mec advantage if the city proper is held.

The mad car dashes have made a comeback. I was able to chase down a few of these. Mec car's gun turns 360 and is just as fast. I was able to set up hidden beside the road out of site (just like the cops), and give chase. (but unlike cops I was able to spit out 50cals.)

I believe that this city map might differ from the other city maps in that the main attack is still a little unpredictable. And the US have such a massive advantage. It might turn out to be very playabe.

Just got to get a win under the belt.

Anymore tips for jalalabad?

loved this map, there are plenty of places to take over flags without being in the open. in fact evey flag had a nice hiding spot to take over the flag unnoticed.

Yes, almost half your team needs to be AT with plenty of support nearby. Have some snipers at the rooftops, with engy's mining the choke points.

grab a fast mover jeep and flatten any infantry that comes down the main road

i tries this and i got bout 25 kills just bye flatnig people but keep moving or the tanks will own u

interesting, I'm as of now uninstalling + re-installing bf2 and patches, take forever lol..

I do wanna try this one thouugh, heard good things.

Also, I heard it wasnt too too unbalanced and that people were just making bad strategical decisions. Sorry if im wrong.

I had a lot of success holding the north city entry from fast-movers with C4. Plant your C4 on the top of that little ramp, so they don't see it until they fly over the top of the ramp and over your C4. Watch them coming up the road on top of those crates that let you see over the wall to the west, and the first white flag that US usually gets.

MEC did a 240-0 win over USMC, because we had tons of AT on the point to the east of USMC uncap, and anyone who tried to slip through for a backpoint got C4ed. They got a foothold at the start with the first white flag, but that's all they got.

Also, so I tried the map, I do find it a bit unbalanced. I got pwned a lot of the time too.

Int he end I just went back to my home, kark.

Then, a bit of sharqui hely-ing!

Hey thanks for quoting me Lethal Ranger, I feel honoured !!!!!

Any way I have to say Jalalabad is one of the best maps made and its even managing to tear me away from Karkand. It's good cos the flags are linear. Even thought he flags are not linked, the linear lay out gives it a slightly similar feel to Onslaught mode in Unreal Tournament 2004

I have to say I prefer Sharqi to Jal, Jal just degenerates into armour rushes in my opinion, either that or sniper wars in IO. It's been fun to try out a new map, but it's not up there in my all time faves.

Seems like theres always these stupid convoys heading around the map self repairing each other so AT rockets do nothing.

Sniping : Tried it and found it interesting to try and hit the scurrying ants down below but still couldnt quite hit anybody twice for the kill. Maybe have been my position however.


Somebody wanna make a guide on the good sniping spots for Jala?

A good sniping spot to use at the start of the round on the MEC side is the dumpster at the top of the stairs if you spawn at the market, head up the stairs towards the main base run along the wall and jump into the dumpster, it has a lovley view of the river crossing spaun point and if you get there quick you can delay the USMC's advance a bit.
Also i had some sucess as a USMC sniper lying on a burning truck sniping towards the market (not 100% on the location).

A good way to defend for MEC is for engineers to mine the water bridge near the lake flag. At the start of each map heaps of USMC jeeps drive straight over that bridge hoping to get into the city. They usually drive too fast to dodge the mines even after they see them.

Jalalabad is the best map/one of the best maps on Bf2 without vehicles. It's usually very even when it's like that. When there are vehicles however... it's not so good.

I loved camping on top of buildings really high up and sniping out like from 600+ meters and them having no idea

I think its a fun map to play for inf aswell as armor.

Alot of choke points and easy to predict where they will be coming from. :D

Wrong. It is a great map. I've been on both sides and won. In an infantry only map, it is hard for the USMC to capture a flag, although it has been done. The longer it takes, then you can forget about. With a normal map, MEC should use mines in the two entrances, Ats in the bunkers, snipers in a distance and lots of medics standing by. It is a nice map because it is fresh. I like the rotation of this map, karkand and Sharqi.

JAL has two flavours - inf only n tank battle. the latter merits mucho AT n ENG, + can be V tasty with so much ordnance flyin round. myself prefers inf - cos it's real alamo $h17 for the USA coming out, guns ablazin. and MEC have to cover that no man's land with snipern003s out to git u sucka.
key strat so far seems to take and hold outpost and the lake. squaddin up essential. my kit pref is G3'd assaut, for kick n rush. tho i must admit i stick close to medics! well, that's teamwork!

you should set a button on your mouse for the pistol, i use the mouse wheel button (ie when pressed down) which brings my pistol out and can very quickly finish someone off, i think i went 32-0 as sniper on jalalabad a few weeks ago, with about 14 pistol kills just by quickly switching

TIPs for USMC (IO),MAP SIZE 32(without LAKE):


TEAM 1:
goes to OUTPOST outpost and start sniping an shooting between USMC main & Outpost

TEAM 2:
other team go dirrectly to MARKET when you cap market go for Mosque...then while you were caping mosque the MS*EC from Hotel will arrive and maybe take Market or come dirrectly1.if they come directly...the group shall ho far around to avout the attackers and go cap HOTEL...

TEAM 1:
while TEAM 2 is caping and going around theTEAM 1 can easily cap OUTPOST because all MEC will spawn at the Market.Mosque,Hotel.

so when you cap OUTPOST go to FOUNTAIN ...try to cap it.so the TEAM 2 shoud have enough backup to hold atleaset MOSQUE


TEAM 2:

so when you get enough backup go cap market (if opssilble divide in 2 more teams--one for HOTEL and one for MARKET)and then try to cap those..while you are caping the TEAM 1 should cap FOUNTAIN and SLOWLY proceed to JUNKYARD...so there will spawn giant nuber of MEC an if everything goes according to plan your teams will MEET JUNKYARD...and then pwn them all and win.

MEC:

MEC are defenders so split in two teams one sholud spawn at OUTPOST, o6ther at JUNKYARD..so try to block USMC TEAM 2, but beware of snipers...team 1 shlould try to block them too.
also send some snipers at little island on the lake between USMC main and OUTPOST...zhey can make your defense much effectiver...

Love this map infantry only [23 W, 8 L]. US team needs a good squad of scouts and medics to go up either (or both) perimeters. You'll bleed out if you go head to head, so the trick is to draw them off their line to soften up the frontline and get a second spawn going to thin the MEC out on multiple fronts.

If you go right, you can sneak up thru the hillsides and have a pretty good view of the first flag. Best thing to do is slip past down to the Fountain though... most MEC dont even think to check that ridgeline when they spawn in. Theres a building at the 2nd flag where you can cap from the rooftop. Then make a break for the Hotel. The MEC team will probably retake Fountain if you dont have others spawn in there, but you're already capping in the backfield as they pause to take the first one back.

If you go left, you can get most of the way to the water untouched even if they send anybody over there to defend. You have to hide your SL in some rocks or its a long freaking run to get back if he's down. Take out their medics first! If you can slip through (a little smoke never hurts), get up into the Market and bury an SL in a random building until you have a 2nd spawn point.

Either way, having a backfield spawn is the key because most MEC players understand that you have a choice of any other flag next and most wont hesitate to take the fight to the rear which lets your lone wolves cap the road points easier.

On MEC, key is preventing any of the above from happening because the line will quickly collapse if you miss any Americans getting through. Get a SL (support kit) heading to the waterway off the bat and bring your own medics and scouts. The pier on your side is a good place to hide your SL and mow em down as they cross the water. If you take the line too far in, thats farther you got to come back when you die and anyways - let em run farther with the bleed on! You can always fall back to defend Junkyard if nobody comes up, or flank the first flag if its lost.

A good commander and good teammates can guarantee you a win on MEC.
Played Jalalaadab 4h straight yesterday and won on both sides, cause we had a good commander- Whore_Assassin, or Armor_Whore/Assassin or something, and teammates.
First few rounds I spent only Jihad Jeeping enemy tanks. Then a few rounds kept ambushing them at choakpoints with C4 and a nades (market, hotel areas.). That pissed off most of the tankers but gave me the moral edge.

I go straight to their UAV and blow it up, then scanner, then kill a couple people on the way to the car. Then road kill anything on the way out, maybe jump out and get on the TOW for a couple escaping cars / tank. Good fun really...

Well what i found is that Mec has a great advantage on map size 64.This is because the tall buildings near the market are great for sniping the lake cp if USMC has it also if u were to put a squad of four snipers, one medic, and a support on those roofs they could hold off the lake entrance (in the shallow water) the medic and support are self explanatory they heal and re- sucpply snipers. Also I good way to defend the city is to scatter mines around Mec's first cp defending the road. In my opinion snipers are a high priority for MEC along with Mines.If you are very sneaky and hate those enemy tanks u could sneak up to the USMC main base and Place C4's in the back of the tank near the bottom then get away and wait till some US troop hops in and gets blown up unexpectedly or even better wait till a gunner gets in.After you take him out run into an empty buggy and speed off through the lake shallow water entrance.Now if you are really darring you could use your buggy as a suicide bomber by placing your last C4's on the front and getting in the car with the trigger in your hands then once you see an enemy speed at them full throttle, once your close jump out and pull the trigger.
