Battlefield Pirates 2 Mod Update

There is a new update posted today over on the Battlefield Pirates 2 (http://bfpirates.com/) mod website. They are back with some new screens for us all. Take a look:

Welcome to another BF Pirates 2 update. Lot’s of work has been going on behind the scenes, readying the next build for the beta testers and HackerX4 almost completed the extensive task of preparing Eturnip’s custom character models for animating and placing in-game.

Let’s start this update off with a boom; our new Cannon! While we haven’t given this cannon a proper name yet, it will be based on the final bore of the barrel we scale the cannon too, ranging from 8 to 12 pounds. This mid-sized cannon can be moved from side to side, but is otherwise stationary, and is best suited for defense from approaching ships. Read more...

It should be a great addition to BF2. If it is good or bad it is still different than vanilla..... I get sick of vanilla after a while. Looks kind of neat reminds me of an older game i used to play.

Honestly, the Myis and the moderators here are very patient with some of you. I would just end up banning people for stuff like that.

Pirates for you kids who never played is one of my all time favorite games, let alone being free. Its just fun, and if you get a bunch of people playing it, its a flippin blast, plain and simple.

Every one should be excited, except bubbles, we dont want to see you on the servers, lol.

i hope u guys do some type of shark group like u had on one of the maps, and boats/ships were very cool too,

i even played on a ireland server, last year cos there were none here in australia ,

Modding BF2 has taken every mod a long time, there's only one true full conversion mod even out! To quote directly from the news update:

We had a release date of late August originally planned, but alas that will not be the case. On the bright side, having more time has really benefited many of our departments, and we've been able to add a lot more content into the first release then what was originally planned. Look at it this way; if a fully staffed and paid company like Dice had to delay on the patch 1.4, just think what a small band of volunteers would encounter creating a 17th century full conversion of the game!

On that note we'd like to congratulate PoE2 on their first release, as well as thank the entire modding community as a whole for the support they've all given one-another via bfeditor.org (http://www.bfeditor.org).

Comments like this just lead to mod teams rushing their mod to get an early release for those that are impatient, then the same people complain why it is so buggy when released. Myself would much rather wait as long as it takes so that the mod is at a much better quality when it is released.

Vanilla is absolutley crap, and when they try to fix something its getting worse. 1.4 didnt change anything for me, i still crash and rockets fly through the vehicles.
I personally think all mods are much better than BF2 itself, since it shows how creative people are. i dont mind being a pirate for once and Ill try that mod too :D

I used to hate waiting on mods myself. Never really appreciated the sheer quantity of things that have to be done to make a total conversion until I started helping the guys out with this one. And with the patches and the available tools ... I sometimes think making a new game from scratch would be way easier! ;) Never fear mates, Detrux has a really good crew put together and the first release will be a great preview of some really creative stuff already in the pipes for future releases.
