With the launch of our latest network site, Total Frontlines (http://www.totalffow.com/), we thought what better way to start off than to have an exclusive interview with a member of Kaos Studios (http://www.kaosstudios.com/), makers of Frontlines: Fuel of War. Frank DeLise, General Manager of Kaos Studios, was kind enough to agree to an interview with us as well as register on the forums to be a part of our community. Now here comes your involvement in this all.

We would like to make this a community interview by sending in your questions to be answered by Frank. All you have to do is register on Total Frontlines (http://www.totalffow.com/forums/register.php) and post your questions in this thread. We will then take the best 10-15 questions from here and send them off to Frank to be answered. Post as many questions as you like and we'll try to send off at least one question per person. This thread will be updated when the questions have been sent off and we are no longer accepting anymore. Thanks again to Frank and let the questions flow in!

*Update* - Frank is gone for the rest of this week so we'll be posting up the interview next week!

In what ways will this game stand out from other FPS games? In what ways will it be unique? And which is the one you are most excited about (which feature will stand out the most)

Did you find certain parts of this project difficult?

What kind of modding support and tools for the community can you promise us?

What influenced you for the setting of this game?

Is this the future you envision for our planet if things continue the way they do?

What kind of equipment can we expect in this near future conflict? Will it be very modern with just a touch of future gear? For example, an assault rifle with laser guided munitions?

Do you plan on keeping up with technology's leaps right off the bat, and in patches throughout the game's life-span? For example Dual and Quad Core Processors, Vista, etc.

What sort of server specs will be needed to host a server, and what will the max slots be?

Will there be a co-op mode in the game aswell?

Like BF2, are we going to see a "demo recorder" in the game to play back rounds?

are there plans for a linux build?
will there be a remote mngr for the server

How is the flow of game? It's more tactical or more action paced? (Unreal 2004, where you start running like crazy or more like call of duty?) If none of those, can you compare to other gameplay style?
The major concern is about bunny hopping :D
I know it isn't going to be reality, so i expect something like Desert Combat, not too unrealistic, but not too realistic.

Has it been heavily tested on vista?

Is the game going to be geared towards competitive play?
Is the game going to have multiple game types? (CTF, Team Deathmatch, Conquest like game type)

How will FFOW differ from most competitive online squad based FPS games (BF2, Quake Wars) and will these features promote stronger teamwork guidelines?

Since you guys started out as a mod team, will you guys support mods for your game?

Not many people could afford steroids for their computers, so what are the minimum specs requirements to run your game?

Is the game going to have more game types unlike BF2? (TDM, DM, CTF, Conquest, etc.)

Is the game also going to have small maps for us infantry guys?

Is the game going to come with a map editor?

How is this game going to be different or the same as desert combat?

Is the game going to be more tactical realism based? Or balanced for fun?
(Please, remember, it’s a game, #1 priority to me is fun!)

Does the game have support for advanced hardware features, such as dualcore, SLI, PhysX etc?

Will the game be "backwards compatible" for us with non-top of the line hardware?
(Not a whole lot of people enjoy upgrading their pc's everytime a new game is released... lol)

What's the player/team limit? How many players per team etc.

Will the game support teamplay features like squads and/or commanders?

If commander support is included, what tools will be available to the commander?

How many maps will ship with the game?

Will the game have a singleplayer campaign, or only bot matches?

Will multiplayer support such features as spectator mode, video recording/streaming etc for clan games?

Will you include Naval combat, as well as infantry, vehicle and air combat?
(Something I seriously miss from the good old days of Battlefield 1942.)

Will there be any maps in the game that allows the player to fight on US soil?
(Getting tired of all the games where you always fight on enemy territory, when the US are participants... lol)

How much destructability will there be to the terrain, structures etc?
(Red Faction-style, or BF2-style? The more destructability the better, it's war :P)

That's all from me. Hope to read this interview soon, with some proper answers to our questions :D

Will Fuel of War be able to distribute new maps in a peer to peer fashion in the same way as other multiplayer games such as unreal tournament? I.e. you log in to a server which is running a custom map and the server and other players automatically upload the map to your computer?

How long till the games released roughly, a couple of years ?.

Is the game going to be based on windows xp or windows vista ?.

You have already stated in your interview with 1up.com that there's going to be a strong single player element to this game. So roughly how many hours of game play are you planning to add to the single player element of the game ? (how long to complete it ?).

Are you going to be using an anti-cheat client for the online element of your game and if so is it going to be pb ?.

How will the weapons fire, will it be a random cone a deviation similar to BF2 or a more traditional recoil based system ?.

Are you making a completely new game engine or are you paying a license to use a tried and tested game engine ?.

Is Frontlines fuel of war going to be released on multiple platforms i.e. PC, xbox 360 etc ?.

If you release Frontlines fuel of war on the Nintendo WII will you be making full use of the WII controller (can i aim by moving my hand around) ?.

What kind of tools to encourage team play are you considering to add to the game i.e. voip, squads ?

Sheesh, we already know the answers to many of your questions, google is your friend :p

How long till the games released roughly, a couple of years ?.

Summer 2007

Is the game going to be based on windows xp or windows vista ?.

Windows XP & Windows Vista compatiable.

Are you making a completely new game engine or are you paying a license to use a tried and tested game engine ?.

They are using the Unreal 3 Engine

Is Frontlines fuel of war going to be released on multiple platforms i.e. PC, xbox 360 etc ?.

Development for PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3

If you release Frontlines fuel of war on the Nintendo WII will you be making full use of the WII controller (can i aim by moving my hand around) ?.

Not being developed on the Wii

What kind of tools to encourage team play are you considering to add to the game i.e. voip, squads ?

Strong focus on Co-Operative and Multiplayer modes.

Squad based teamplay (Optional).

Target sharing, a second person is needed in a vehicle to "mark" the target. Then only the gunner can see it.

Missile defeat is also player controlled; you have to spot the incoming rocket, aim at it, and shoot it down. It's not that easy, though if you master it, your vehicle will be stronger. That said, you need two people in the vehicle for it to be useful. (Driver \Gunner, Counter measure \ Targeting)

Inter-vehicle communication.

dam you are every where, where i go :D

1. for both ( XP and VISTA) I will choose XP because for performance

2. dunno

3. Nice question, slecect this one admins

4.All weapons will be skill wised so I presume it would not use random crone fire

All weapons are skill based, only the sentry gun is automatic. Example: the Rocket launcher (Javelin) allows you to fast straight fire or lock. If you lock, you can pick a trajectory for angle of attack (Vehicles have weak spots). If you straight fire, it's based on your aiming skills.

5.They use the Unreal 3 engine but havey modified, they hat to change alot of things( they have posted that somewhere on the community forums)

6.Yes it is multiplatform. First for PC then XBOX360 ,PS3

7.Wii is not on the list

8.It's not a tool but it encourge to work together, I'm talking about the Missile defeat systeem for FFOW to stop imcomming missle's :D
Tool:Inter-vehicle communication. and no online unlock ranking systeem

But only a stats systeem as kdr and playtime ect for what I know

1.Have you found solutions for forcing teamkills on vehicle's
(i have posted it sometime ago on the community forums, so I would really like to know if you have something implented to do stop this)

2.Have you implented suggestions from the community, so yes wich suggestions would that be(examples?).

3.I heard the maps would big and bigger! that has a really great affect on clanwars if you have no 16/32/64 feature, that you don't have.
Do you have a special thing for clanwars in mind like certain gamemod.

Will there be a demo released before it goes on sale?

IF so, how long before release will the demo be out?

what are the flight phsyics like? easy to master or will it take skill to control the beasts?

in the trailer, you see planes dropping bombs, is that an AI flown plane called in by the air support class or can you actually fly the planes?

Will there be any stat tracking supported? kill/death ratio, accuracy e.t.c not so intersted in player progressing, just recorded stats.

I'd like to thank everyone for posting their questions and if yours wasn't picked this time, we already have great backing by the guys from Kaos Studios with signing up on our boards so hopefully one of them can get around to it at some point. We also may be bringing you guys some other goodies, so stay tuned...the answers to your questions will be posted up ASAP!
