IGN (http://www.ign.com/) has posted up a new hands-on preview today for Frontlines: Fuel of War which also includes a ton of new screenshots. Take a look:

Once we'd finished the singleplayer level, it was time to kick into some multiplayer. Due to the lower number of players, at around twelve, vehicles became very important. While many of the inter-vehicle options weren't ready, Frank has some great plans in mind. "We'll include vehicle sharing, so if you're in a secondary position in the vehicle, and you see a target, the driver will also see it. If you look at someone, it'll put a marker on them for the driver to see, and VOIP will automatically work between the driver and the gunner." This VOIP system also extends to the squads in the game. To make teamwork more important, specific systems are being built into the vehicles that can only be used with the aid of a second set of hands. "The tanks have a special counter-measure which is controlled by the gunner, so two people in the vehicle will make the vehicle twice as strong."

Our session took place on a number of maps, with a nice mix of bombed out urban areas, great for sneaky spec-ops guys, and long range desert plains, for the tankers amongst us. They showed just how far the Unreal Engine 3 has been pushed, with vistas far larger than anything seen in Gears.

The ranking system proved to be an absolute hoot, with players racing each other to see who could pull off the most destructive moves. Choosing when to use the role's abilities was tricky; do you go for the lower powered attacks as needed, or store up the points to unleash more powerful attacks during those last-minute, we're-all-gonna-die moments? Apparently there's even a tactical nuke in the game - and any game with a nuke in it deserves closer examination. Read more... (http://pc.ign.com/articles/768/768783p1.html)

"Chopper whores beware - the SAMs in Frontlines actually work."

I'm sorry, but I got a kick out of that, its like their hinting at BF2.:D

Great screenshots, the environment looks amazing, very authentic, even the smoke coming from the tank discharging looks awesome.

Oh, and the ranking system, I feel like we dodged a bullet with that one. I'm glad their taking on the Call of Duty: UO and 3 system. Frank summed it up best: "It is a nice feature of Battlefield, but it really hurts the mod community, and it hurts the clan community." There is no doubt in my mind this is going to be a great gaming experience.

Woot! One of the features never made by DICE in BF2 will finally work here! This is SO important to communicate what to do!

That was a good article. Good to hear that the singleplayer AI will be better. The ranks and unlocks for each role sounds very interesting. Those new screenshots look good too. I can't wait for this game.

If I understood correct from article, all deployables (drones, air strikes etc) can be deployed once?

This game gets better and better everyday! I especially love that comment they made, "Chopper whores beware - the SAMs in Frontlines actually work."

This game must have awesome AI when it comes out if they have people who worked on F.E.A.R., Medal of Honour, Company of Heroes and Madden.

Tanks dont need 2 people.. But you would be smarter and last longer on the front with someone helping you. The second person can,

Mark Targets for the gunner\driver
Use his machine gun
Deploy anti-lockon countermeasures for lockon missle defeat.
Watch your rear (weak spot on tank)

Although, there is not much you can do about non-guided rocket shots except evasive manuvers. Unless you have an APC near by which can take them out.

Teamwork matters in the game. Your not forced too, but people who do will pwn.

The anti-lockon countermeasures and target marking stuff sounds really cool. Can't wait to see it all in-game. But you say "gunner/driver" (I am speaking of the main gun whereas you may be speaking of the top gunner position) as if they were two separate seats (like Red Orchestra) instead of one guy doing the driving and manning the main gun at the same time (like BF2). I'm buying this game either way :) , but I just want to know what to expect.
