IGN (http://www.ign.com/) has posted up a new hands-on preview today for Frontlines: Fuel of War which also includes a ton of new screenshots. Take a look:
Once we'd finished the singleplayer level, it was time to kick into some multiplayer. Due to the lower number of players, at around twelve, vehicles became very important. While many of the inter-vehicle options weren't ready, Frank has some great plans in mind. "We'll include vehicle sharing, so if you're in a secondary position in the vehicle, and you see a target, the driver will also see it. If you look at someone, it'll put a marker on them for the driver to see, and VOIP will automatically work between the driver and the gunner." This VOIP system also extends to the squads in the game. To make teamwork more important, specific systems are being built into the vehicles that can only be used with the aid of a second set of hands. "The tanks have a special counter-measure which is controlled by the gunner, so two people in the vehicle will make the vehicle twice as strong."
Our session took place on a number of maps, with a nice mix of bombed out urban areas, great for sneaky spec-ops guys, and long range desert plains, for the tankers amongst us. They showed just how far the Unreal Engine 3 has been pushed, with vistas far larger than anything seen in Gears.
The ranking system proved to be an absolute hoot, with players racing each other to see who could pull off the most destructive moves. Choosing when to use the role's abilities was tricky; do you go for the lower powered attacks as needed, or store up the points to unleash more powerful attacks during those last-minute, we're-all-gonna-die moments? Apparently there's even a tactical nuke in the game - and any game with a nuke in it deserves closer examination. Read more... (http://pc.ign.com/articles/768/768783p1.html)
