I am so shocked out of the many articles I've read and even glancing thru these forums no one has ever mentioned this.
I'm sure you know about this but why hasnt anyone said anything LOL
This game "Crysis" is completely similiar to War of the Worlds both by the original and the new with Tom Cruise.
For Example
1.) HG Wells has an asteriod thingy hits earth, several people come to gaze at it, they eventually find a way to open it, then some creature comes out. Moments later this "alien" kills a couple people "heat inceration". Eventually these small aliens turn into giant strider looking like things that demolish everything in their path (with heat)
2.) Tom Cruise (2005) Version: An asteriod thingy hits earth, giant like striders emerge and uses a big photon blast to kill everything off (though I'm not to sure, I think heat as well). People vacate further and further to get away from these beasts.
In the game; there are stages:
1.) Asteriod hits earth
2.) Big Freeze
3.) Man vs Alien for survival (which the enemy totally resembles off of War of the Worlds)
*well this is just my opinion, it looks like it, but then again maybe the story is a bit different hehe*

Well, you got some points there, but take a look at the designated story line for Crysis.
Earth, 2019: On a remote island, an US science team makes a frightening discovery. The North Korean Government quickly seals off the island chain. Contact with the science team is lost. The United States responds by dispatching an elite team of Delta Force Operators to recon the situation and report back to the Pentagon. Amid rising tensions between the US and North Koreans, a massive, 2km high alien ship is revealed in the middle of the island. The ship generates an immense force sphere, freezing a vast portion of the island and drastically altering the global weather system.
The newly formed alliance fights epic battles against the marauding Aliens. With hope rapidly fading, the player must fight through lush tropical jungle, harsh frozen landscapes, and finally into the heart of the alien ship itself for the ultimate Zero G encounter with the aliens

To be completely honest I could care less about the story line or single player.
I am all about the multiplayer and the game looks kick ***, the physics own, and the game modes are going to kick *** so I am happy.

Well its incredibly difficult to come up with original ideas these days, everything has been used. To be honest its not that similar, and in the new one the aliens come down to earth in like lightening bolts and its across the entire planet not just a small island.

Arg, this topic made me register just so I could reply.
You have the movie War of the Worlds totally wrong. The tripods had been buried beneath the Earth for millions of years. A freak storm came in, and lightning repeatedly struck the places where the tripods were buried. The aliens came down in said lightning to pilot the tripods.
The book version I don't remember as well because I read it along time ago. I however remember that there weren't any alien freeze-the-world-over parts.
The only thing that makes them similar is man vs alien. Plenty of games have man vs alien, it's just how they make the game that makes them totally different.
End Topic.

well dont get me wrong I am anticipating this game as well; heck I even reserved it earlier this month :P
Okay okay so its not like War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise however it is like War of the Worlds by HG Wells and for that big alien you get to fight; that almost looks like the one off of War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise

If you had to relate it with one of the versions I would say the HG Wells version is the most similar.

I would rather have them make an only multiplayer version and focus on teamwork just like battlefield. Every game that I own has multiplayer and if it has singleplayer, well I never finished it to say how good/bad it was.

So the main character in Crysis fighting for his Scientologist belief system. The guy is actually fighting N. Korean psychiatrists attempting to dispense anti depressants to the population. It is your real mission to kill everyone using Zoloft and Prozac if they do not buy self improvement modules.

I've never read the books, but assuming your right on them.
War of The Worlds (2005) No asteroid hits earth. No smaller aliens turn into bigger aliens. They do the opposite instead of burning and heat raying, they freeze and freeze gun. The aliens in Crysis look nothing alike from the movie, and the setting is completely different from an american suburb to a Korean (I think) jungle.
