The Obsidian Edge 2 (http://www.obsidianedge.net/) mod recently held a Q&A session with the guys over at CrysisNews.de (http://www.crysisnews.de/). Here's a portion of this new interview:
Crysisnews: Some words about weapons and vehicles. In an older interview with www.crysis-online.com you said, that OE2 will play in the near future and that there will be no futuristic weapons. Where does the inspiration come from when you create new vehicles and weapons? Can we expect player-controlled jets, planes or other air vehicles to fly around?
CuZ: The simple answer to this is that our inspirations are real life. What are the armed forces around the world using? Obsidian Edge 2 will feature realistic equipment load outs and vehicle availabilities and capabilities, although these will obviously be scaled for given maps. For instance, we aren’t going to have Main Battle Tanks in a small map, but they will feature in the larger game modes that have expansive maps.
Air strikes will be a part of some game modes, but the players wont be able to fly the jets themselves, we feel that would detract from the mood we are trying to create for the mod. We will be play testing Rotary Air Support. Our initial view is that these will be primarily for transportation. As with all OE2 vehicles, if we do give them an offensive capability, you will need more than one player onboard to operate the weapons. e.g. a pilot and a gunner/weapons op.
