View Full Version : Why so much paranoia?

Why are people so worried about balance? The game is no where near being released and I'm seeing all kinds of posts and a couple threads already with undertones of panic and dread.
There is a huge difference between balance and individual gameplay style. Not everyone plays a game the same way. Some people are naturally faster with a mouse and have better reflexes, others have better computers, etc. If you implement limitations in general to compensate for those that are not so skilled, no so quick, and have ancient hardware then you end up compromising gameplay and individual skill becomes irrelevant (i.e, unbalanced).
This is exactly what ended up happening with other games and it totally killed the potential of the game. Using the term "balance" in this case is a complete misuse of the word entirely.
Example:
Team "A" has 1 rifle nothing else
Team "B" has helos, tanks, machineguns, grenades, etc.
^^^That is a balance issue.^^^
The bottom line is that no one person will have any advantage over anyone else related to the game itself. If everyone else can do it in game, then you can do it. Learn to adapt and play or stick with the Wii. Please stop with the "inbalance" train of thought as there is nothing to really support or justify it at this point.

I'm not really surprised at the paranoia, I've seen many games where balancing issues have ruined a great game.
Let's just hope they keep it together for Crysis.

What???? I do not understand???? People will play a computer game because it makes them look cool or am i missing the point because if thats what your saying then......then i dunno lol.
EDIT: I could buy this game simply for its graphics but i really don't want to hear moaning for the next 3 years about how they ruined the game because it was unbalanced. Also if it was incredably unbalanced iw ould probably stick to single player.

I think it will be balanced fine. People should stop worrieng. It will take a while before its released, so they got plenty of time to fix it.

While I agree with rev0lution that the word 'unbalanced' is severly overused nowadays, I'm not really worried.
What most people really mean when they say "this game is unbalanced" is:
"I can't play the game the way I want to/imagined it, because my fave playing style/weapon/tactic doesn't work well enough"
Which could be considered a bad thing ... could be.
I'm usually very quick to adjust to new situations, tactics, gameplay styles, and balancings, and thus, new games. So whenever my trusty CS:S tactics of 'flash and shoot' don't work well enough, I devise new ways of attacking.
People who have difficulty doing that will likely complain that the game is unbalanced.
Practical example: Blackhawk nerf in BF2.
Pre-patch, the BH was a very powerful asset. It could transport troops efficiently, it had nice firepower (when flying low-mid altitude), and could take a few blows. Then everyone who expected BF2 to be mainly ground based started complaining about flag hopping, the turrets being too strong against infantry, the BH taking too much damage, etc.
When really, all they should have done is stop groundpounding like mad, and actually counter the BH with anti-air or an attack chopper.
Point: if *weapon X* is a force to be reckoned with .. RECKON WITH IT! ;)
Stubbornly losing every match and then later complaining about it is not the way to go.

The problem was Mashtuur City flaghopping. Not so much on other maps. Mashtuur had no attack choppers, no AA, only way of taking the Blackhawk down was with the MGs on the vehicles and AT rockets. And with like 5 engineers repairing it, it seemed like it would never go down unless someone took the other transport and suicided into it.
I don't know if they should have nerfed the Blackhawk itself, but they made the correct move making it so you have to get out of the vehicle to cap the base.
But I do agree, people complain too much when the game doesn't cater to their playing style.

Great example, everyone on mashtuur (which is the ONLY reason people complained) would just run around and try to dodge fire when the nearest IGLA (anti air) was across the way, no one ever hopped in it or at least not enough people hopped in it

The only AA guns on Mashtuur City were the ones at the main bases (where the enemies would rarely go unless it was a 64 player map). That's why the Blackhawk was such a problem to take down.

At the main bases (where the transports spawned) the AA guns were indeed on top of the buildings.
