The Project Reality (http://www.realitymod.com/) mod team is back today with a road map update for the new year. Take a look:

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year from all of us at the Project Reality team. We'd like to say a HUGE thanks to all of you for your support of Project Reality over the last year.

What's up for Project Reality in 2007
Mod teams have a hard time sticking to solid plans. It's a pretty volatile environment in terms of team consistency, so anything posted here about ideas we've tossed around for Project Reality should really be considered only as probable directions for the mod and not commitments for stuff coming in the next release.

Black Sand Studios
Project Reality will continue to be a part of the Black Sand Studios projects. We're looking forward to an enjoyable year collaborating with this international group of incredibly talented modders.

Release Cycles
We are going to try and get the mod onto a 45 to 60 day release cycle. We're hoping to see v0.5 release in January and then v0.6 in March. Release dates are tough even for professional teams working on games like Duke Fortress 2, but we want to swing into a fairly steady rhythm of iterative releases.

This mod rules. It's the DC of BF2. More people should be playing this mod...can't wait for .5 guys good job!

I am glad people are enjoying it, the guys have worked hard on it.

However, this is not the DC of BF2. Not in any way that I can think of. BF2 doesn't have a DC yet. Not sure it ever will. Too many factors though, you cant put blame on the DEVs

BF2 is just simply not a good mod platform, what ever the EA/DiCE guys said before they released it saying "its going to be a mod friendly game", they lied...

The ranking system and very hard engine to work with first turns off players to want to play the mod as they see playing a mod is really just a waste of time which they could put into there next unlock, and the engine being that we have a limited things we can do with it.

But thou still, I do hope ppl do get board of the ranking system and really do play all the mods as all the Devs for every mod have worked so hard.

well i mean, i dont have all the ranks and weapons and i sure aint gonna get them now. Surely those people who are interested in 'rank' must have got all them, i mean its over a year and a half after the game has been release.

Not true as a lot of new people joined up well after the game was released. Also as a casual player, you will never get all the unlocks. So there are a lot of people out there playing for them, but do not stat pad or have a lot of free time to blow on BF2.

The #1 thing killing mods by far is the stat system. #2 is that EA refuses to support the mods with promotion and help. I fail to understand why EA and Dice would sabotoge the mod community the way they have.

I mean in the sense that it is the go to alternative for me as far as the BF2 engine goes. I specifically bought BF to play DC. I think this mod has had that impact on me in that I don't even enjoy the regular game as much. It's just leaps and bounds better. Take the damn compliment. :p

What Stabby said
BF2 is the only game I own that I cannot play on the highest GFX setting
Q4 HL2 D3 all look and play better than BF2 on my machine......BF2 vanilla uses half the texture size and hald the shaders and still plays like doo doo......1942 was the game.

PR supports the ABR stats system, so all the stats, awards and crap you can get in BF2, you can get in PR.. no unlocks, though. All toys are available to you from the start. :)

that is really there for any one who just wants to track there k/d ratio. Thats all Ive ever really used stats for for any game...

I strongly encourage you to try this mod out. If you haven't, you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you have already but have not been thrilled by your first take, then try again. The latest release (0.4) was a huge step forward. The next version will be significant too, and it should come in less than a month. The PR community is now strong enough that you have the choice of a few nearly full servers at all times of day (I sometimes have to wait a bit to find an open slot).

The devs are very responsive and the community mostly mature. This is not the DC of BF2 because it has a very different scope (appeals to more serious gamers because it is less arcadish) but it is very addictive! I haven't played any other mod (nor Vanilla) for the last few monthes.
