What are your system specs. Did you uninstall your old video drivers and install the new ones for your new gfx card.

You could try deleting the BF2 video.con file just incase the card doesnt like a setting that your old card liked. That will put you back to default video settings for the game.
However it seems odd that 2142 works and BF2 doesnt, did you install 2142 after you got the card?

Sounds like a Resolution conflict to me mate.
Start @ default Res or lower.

Also, It doesn't matter which patch you have when you start it. I had the same problem with my computer, my problem was the memory, my memory was short and it wouldn't run the game. In your case your card is probally taking away memory, there fore unable to play..

Right click on your Battlefield 2 icon on the desktop, click on properties on the part where it says target, add +szx 800 +szy 600 (Or whatever your resolution is). So it looks like this ...

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 800 +szy 600

You can try 1024*768 aswell.
