IDE Digital Audio Needed?

I was curious if a dvd drive needs a digital audio cable from the drive the sound card?

Without it will the soundcard not recieve sound data from the dvd drive? or is the quality just better with the extra cable?

Noobish question, I know, but the build u see below is my first, and I havn't installed DVD drive yet.

Hmmm... On non of my computers have I done that. I don't think so but I could be wrong.

Hmm, yeah my shoddy dell had one but, of course, being a dell, it's not the best system to compare to.

Screw it, I have enough cables in the case as it is, I don't need another one :D

I used to have one on my old CD-RW drive, I replaced it with a DVD-RAM drive, the cable wasn't long enough to reach anyway, haven't noticed any differences.....

Gah i remember this form long ago. It used to stream audio directly from drive to board but now with SATA and IDE being fast enough it makes no difference.
