There is a new update posted today over at the Battlefield Pirates 2 (http://www.bfpirates.com/) mod website. Here's what they had to say about this media release:

Hello and welcome back to another BF Pirates 2 news update! Rest assured that despite our lack of news updates (which we apologize for), the team has been hard at work taking BF Pirates 2 from concept to reality.

A lot of the work over the last couple months has been purely technical- tweaking code, rigging character models, animating, and mapping- the sorts of work we really didn't want to show off half completed. But today is different, as 1/2Hawk has been working tirelessly by candlelight to bring together a preview of his map, Storm the Bastion. In addition to this map preview, we are pleased to show off the Grenade Launcher, as well as some great artwork by Wheeljack and Bibi. Enough with the delays- let's get this ship out to sea!

awesome work dudes, I can see the map aint final yet but a quick point of observation it looks like you have your overgrowth light on default at the second as the bottom of the trees are black. Would be just a quick fix to to change them to 2 nice colours and the trees would look so much nicer :)

I this for the PSP or some sort of new hand held cellphone that plays BF2 at 320 x 240 video resolutions? Thumbnails are mini.

My word, this really does look awesome! :D

Only piece of advice is that Water simply is not that blue if the sky is that grey (first screenshot). Water colour is the result of reflecting the atmosphere's colour.

A suggestion for future classes.

There is a weapon that was used by the Royal British Navy in the Napolionic wars. Called a Nock gun. The Nock gun has 7 barrels and fires pistol balls (According to what Sgt Harper says in one of the episodes in the Sharpe TV series).

That looks good. The models and everything. Not really liking the effect of the cannon though. Seems more like a mortar/artillery and less like a rusty old cannon that simply fires out big metal balls, it even has a tracer effect...not really realistic but i guess i've been playing too much PR. :p

The cannon is using the artillery effects for now, but will be upgraded with its own custom sounds etc. The Undead main is just at the very edge of the cannon range - and is way out in the fog. We setup that sequence carefully, but you wont be able to pixel aim the soldier and boat spawns ... no worries.

Thats one boat - one cannon defender btw. Imagine the opening on this one with six boats, 14 cannons. Total carnage! If the undead can beach a squad at the lighthouse and take it (like the TV station on Sharqi), they'll have a good position to shoot down on the cannons and keep that area clear for more boats to slip in on the Church and the Waterfront. These are needed to reverse the bleed back on the pirate team. Teams will trade quite a bit of musket fire as the Undead approach the gate. This can be blown with grenades or powderkeg charges, at which point its time to pull out the cutlasses and finish the map off with some CQB melee.
