Sorry can't help you, but XP will remain as the gaming platform at least as long as Vista gets SP1. There's hardly support for anything yet, so better stick with customized XP. It even looks better than Vista.

right click on the game icon (in ur program files>ea games>bf2 battlefield 2 icon (not shortcut, should be about 7 megs)) properties, compatibility then click compatibiliy mode for xp service pack 2

Let's see Vista hasn't been released yet. Hence, you are using the beta as your OS? Brilliant!

Understanding the excitement of wanting Vista as your OS its as everyone said probably better if you receeded to XP until Vista has been a little more thouroghly ran through. As any new program its liable to have bugs, just as you have seen so far with no text and such. Yes, a horrible pain to re-install XP, but unless you want to be bug free that will have to do.:hmm:

I have Vista Ultimate Edition (legit) running on my system and BF2 worked only after doing what is quoted above. There is also a check box that you can select to run in Admin Mode. Sometimes that will also fix it. I've got Vista to run every program just fine and when I did run into problems I used the above fix for it.
Running Vista Ultimate for the past 3 months.
camper.

You need to run it in Admin mode, disable UAC and maybe in compatibility mode too. AND GET THE LATEST DRIVERS.

I'm running Vista TOTALLY FLAWLESSLY! People stating that Vista is unstable and buggy are complete freaking dumba$$es and they do NOT know what they're talking about.
BF2 should run Vista OK, so probably you've got incompatible graphics drivers, or you've got a problem with your BF2 installation.

VISTA is crap...Dont care what Gates said on the Today show. He stated 5 million people have already tested VISTA, with no problems.
Okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk....
Anyone remember problems with ME, and XP before SP2.
XP is here to stay on my comp, until MS can come up with a OS that reads minds, Iam sticking with what I got....LoL
VISTA users are MS slaves.

You have no freeakin idea what you are talking about. Spreading rumours like that is totally stupid. Go somewhere else and join some other forum where people like you can meet.

Sounds like an e-machine user complaining about product instead of realizing user error. I'm willing to bet you have Bonzai Buddy loaded on your comp right?

I haven't tried 64 bit - is it worth it? I wouldn't mind it if the performance increase was noticable. Let me know if possible.

Running BF2 in Windows XP (SP2) compatability mode did the trick. If you're still running into problems though try to see if you're having any driver conflicts. I have an X-Fi soundcard that only has beta drivers available for Vista x64 at the moment and it completely screws up BF2 (even after you uninstall them and/or use system restore), might just be my setup though.
Using new 100.54 nvidia drivers that came out on the 30th and seems to run BF2 fine, although I must admit it's not exactly as smooth as running it on XP. Nothing I can't live with though.

I can get x64 through my MSDN. I was wondering how you felt about the x64 over all. I had considered using x64XP, but now that vista is here, I think I will be dualbooting for gaming purposes and using Vista as my primary OS.
I have been running the beta on my laptop for several months now, and it is fine there, but have not tried running it with BF2.

VISTA Benchmarks for BF2 have been released along with other gaming benchmarks (Quake, Doom3, COD...etc.) and XP still wins in the FPS departments, so please do not rush out to buy VISTA, or your gaming experience will suffer!!!!

Using BF2 with Vista with no problems whatsoever, check for the latest updates, both for video and for BF2
By the way, for you guys that just want a 100% problem free environment for BF2 at all times, especially with a newly released operating system, get real. I mean come on, you think MS designers sit behind their desks debating whether or not to make a change or two on how an EA game is affected, I highly doubt that...but nevertheless they've done a damn good job at an advanced operating system that can handle pretty much anything with yet more to come very soon as more and more updates will me available
