View Full Version : Will lowering the graphics improve my performance?

I experience terrible lags at the start of each round. Though it ends after a few minuts it drives me crazy.
Secondly my ping is awfully high - That's because I leave in Israel which is quite far from Europe and the US, I was just wondering if lowering the graphics would make the situation more bearable.

The lagg at the beggining is from trying to run all high with only 1gb of RAM. If you turn down textures and lighting to medium it should be better. Putting terrain down might also help.

U could try and connect to a server closer to home. Lowering the settings will prevent any system lag. but for internet lag it wont do much.

Thanks for indicating me the specific options that would do the work. I'll try it.

That's the problem! I don't have any servers near home. There is NO Israeli community, the closest servers to me are in Germany (means 90-110 ping :( )

I'm going to try running BF2 at the lowest settings, leaving a reply right away

Yeah I understood what you meant, but usually, in these cases, I just go to the edge and come back slowly to the point where i'm satisfied.

Well for the results:

800X600 everything low except for 100% distance gives a smooth, not-so-ugly and lag-free game. I think I might even keep the setting this way :p

And the ping remains extremely high. It's wierd because Qtracker says I have a 90-100 ping from the server, Start->Run->Ping IP says the same thing, and a few seconds after I join the server, it goes to 150-300 which results in having me - kicked

I guess my ISP is having a bad day or something. In fact when thinking of it, they have more "bad days" then normal ones.

Thanks for the support guys :D Going to search for spyware and evil stuff

You still should try playing with all high except textures, lighting and terrain. I promise you that it will run well.

You still should try playing with all high exexpt textures, lighting and terrain.

Even all medium will be good.

Why? I'm happy this way. Also almost-disabled shadows gives a bit of advantage ;)

Actually, I think you might find that one or two of the settings, I forget which right now but someone might come along and point them out, actually play better on medium than low!!!!

u can also try setting ur agp aperture to like 256mb, which i think helps cuz it allocates more memory for textures and stuff
