There's a new update posted today over at the Tactical War (http://www.tactical-war.com/tw.bfworld.net/index.php?op=edito) mod website with some sad news on their departure. Here's a rough translation of what they had to say:

Hello, has all, as some among you know already, the MOD will stop. The lack of manpower and the cruel lack of personal time have U reason of the project which cannot from now on continue any more to exist. This is why decision was made to put an end to it, only veiled, a good news is that by seeing all the messages of supports and of desolation has the advertisement of the end of the MOD, I melted… I have thus to decide to carry to release the MOD in its current state, thanks to the contest of developers of others mods (SGLR notement). Thus veiled, the MOD will leave under approximately 2 weeks (if all occurs well) and then it is to yield has another MOD (we will say some to you on this subject when the agreement with this MOD makes). By escusant us, and in the hope of your greater comprehension, thank you with all.

Sad to see these guys go but we wish them the best of luck with any future projects.

We are bound to see more mods collapse. The BF2 engine has not been very nice to them and most mods still have no public releases after years of development. The biggest problem is BF2 players are in general too obsessed with getting the next unlock to play mods or even give them a chance.

I hope there are more mod mergers rather than deaths so that content that was so painstakingly created can still be used.

Tactical War was one of the first mods to release anything, way back in the earliest days of BF2. I've been anxiously waiting to see what they can make since then, after all the work that had gone into it. I am very sad they have decided to call it quits.

Yep always sad to see a mod not being continued. So far I only play BF2 because of the mods. I hate vanilla, but nevertheless love the people who spend their time being very creative and try to do the best by using BF2 engine.
Well also best of luck for the future :)

You are correct sir. Why can't some of these mods unite and create ONE great mod rather than 3-5 decent mods or worse not able to release it due to lack of manpower.
I really like the Black Sand Studio concept, but I wish they would make ONE maybe two great mod(s).

Good news/Bad news thing: Another mod has adopted TW's content and will be incorporating it into their mod, called Hostile Progressions.

More info, interestingly enough, available on POE's website:

My Kudos go out to all the fellow mod teams. It is a labour of love to work on mods. Thousands of hours spent voluntarily programming for the enjoyment of watching others enjoy your product. Not for the money, just the enjoyment. To the TW team, I hope to see you guys soldier on in the merger. Bigger teams can be 90% more effective. Keep up the good work!
