Now, you may or may not have already installed a mod for BF2 from either PR, POE2 or any of the other groups, but I'd like those who are absolutely new to major mods for BF2 to comment here on the features that have been changed from the retail BF2 game once they have downloaded and tried out the free mod.

What do you think of the changes made, what changes you'd like to be seen in future (because the staff listen to suggestions from the community) and generally whether you think your gaming experience has been improved or not by the changes the mod has now made to your basic game.

PR v0.5 enables numerous major changes in the basic gaming and we think many people, including regular players will be very, very surprised at the changes made.

Well PR .5 is my first mod installed for BF2, its very nice like with the guns, sounds, choppers, vehicles ect. but Im not really liking the concept of changing packs to drive/pilot/whatever to do something it kinda gets annoying. And the damaging while you jump out of moving cars is kinda different but smart since you see that alot.

PR 0.5 is fvking strange.

Trying to get a PILOT kit, and it's NOT possible. What ever I do.

I'm a SL, trying to be a Officer kit. You need supply crate blablah... I get that. "You really want? Wait 2 min" BOOM DEAD, by who?? I CANT SEE.

I can't get the fr3aking PILOT kit. Ok, then I go start local server. BOOM, CTD!!

I'm about to UNINSTALL PR 0.5, first I must try the Ah-1z.. If it ever will happen.

Every1 on servers say "Read manual n00b, stfu, it's PR not vanilla, n00b" etc.. tsk,?

this is one of the first MAJOR mods i have played and honestly it will be hard to ever go back to BF2 after playing this. the 1 thing that i kinda don't like is the specialty kits. they are kinda hard to get used to. also on a few of the maps the helicopters wont take off for me even when i have the pilot kit on. i sat in one attack chopper for like 10 minutes and it just wouldn't take off. maybe its just me tho idk. but besides that i really like everything else alot. especially how the guns are set up

You need 2 people in your squad to spawn a Pilot Kit.

Regarding the not taking off issue - no idea, sorry. Its probably a bug that occurs when lots of people are playing, and quite simply we couldn't do that while playing in test servers with <20 players.

I think it is a fun mod and a well needed change, but I think you should be able to spawn a kit anywhere, takes to long to find out where you need to go in order to get one.

Yeah , but then it says "Wiskey? Wait 2 mins" then "Be at a supply" something.. Bollocks ! :/

As I said, Player Guide has the answers.

You need to either be:
- 3m to an APC,
- 25m to a friendly APC,
- 3m to a Rally Point.

You're probably the first person I heard overreacting about the special kit.

1.) You need to be at a designated area to request the Special Kits, such as flag, supply box, back of an APC, and Rally point. It seriously isn't that hard and you should appreciate that because those who play v4 can only get it by staying in the flag zone.

2.) You need to be in a squad and have some members in your Squad before you can request Special Kits, this is to prevent LoneWolf or anyone else that think they're better than everyone and can get what ever they want.

3.) Treat those request equipments with cares (In other words, stop dying and expect that you can get it back again once you respawn), because once you lose it, it just meant that you're just not good enough to handle any special kits or even bother with it.

Your kidding most the servers of the moment are full of people crying about it, oh well, you can only help them so much.

i only think that you should always be a ble to get a kit from an apc, but sometimes the apc itself needs to be close to a flag/base

If your squad leader, gets an officer kit and lays a rally point, your squad can request special kits from the rally point. Easy :)

A lot easier than trying to find an apc when some guy grabbed a crewman kit and drove it off straight into the line of fire and you are still waiting for it to spawn in again! I saw that happen a fair few times.

As to flying littlebirds with pilots kits, have you tried rocking it back and forth to break contact with the ground to take off?

Wish I could play soon, but my CPU is overheating like hell (90C), and I need some Thermal Paste on it otherwise it will freeze during game play.

Not only that, but I need go spend days retraining myself so I can adjust to a better gameplay.

Well.. why has the crosshair been removed? You can't throw medic packs. You can't see who killed you. That's very annoying imo

The game is dead, long live the game!

Project Reality has killed Battlefield 2. I feel kind of sad to abandon my BF2 'character' just before i make Captain, but I cannot go back to vanilla, it just doesnt compare to PR. It gave me hours of fun, and many good fights, but against PR it's like a childs game. It's like riding a bike with training wheels.

I only jumped on the bandwagon at 0.406 but instantly recognised that this is easily the best, most satisfying mod I have played. No other mod tries to encourage teamwork so effectively, while also requiring a decent level of skill to master. On my brief encounter with 0.5 I have been impressed with the new changes made, in particular (but in no particular order); the added recoil for the m4, the beefing up of the m16 burst fire, the rally points, the amendment to the AAS gameplay, the increased running stamina, the new chinese rifle and the new savageness to the gunfights. A couple of hours last night with a few mates and none of us wanted to quit, it was great.

The one thing I would criticise if I had to- although i almost feel like Brutus for doing so- would be the fall damage from moving vehicles (i think this is a great idea, but perhaps the damage is a little much for slow moving vehicles?). But on the whole, this is an addictive, innovative and immersive gameplaying experience. Hat's off to you guys, see you on the field!

I applaud what you are trying to do, but I think this game is really "pub" unfriendly, it might be good fun to play in a tourney with everyone allocated to what they are doing before the game starts, but it's just way to messy in pub play.. also 64 player insurgent maps I reckon the insurgent team should have 40 players with the blue team having 24 :D

hehe, if you haven't notice alot of our players use VOIP, way more than vBF2 players. Thou with the new release we do have alot of players comming from vbf2 etc who are not use to using VOIP. It will either grow on ppl and stick, or they will never relize this mod needs teamwork, and that is what makes it so grate for the ppl who play as a team! ;)

calibre: this mod was never and will never be intended for the general masses.

its a niche mod, meant for simulating realism. we welcome all new players, but at the same time, its not going to be watered down to the lowest common denominator.

And your incorrect. Some of the best moments in PR for me have been WAY MORE coordinated than ANY TOURNAMENT i have ever seen. This mod does not need to be pub friendly, it attracts intelligent people who can think on the move, and can make plans in the middle of a battle. If you dont know what im saying, then hop in my squad one time and ill show PR is about...

Right now, tons of new folks, who are clueless. They will either learn, or leave. Just be friendly to them :)

Well.. why has the crosshair been removed?

Because you don't have on in real life ;). The Battlefield engine (to my knowledge) does not support free aim (where your gun is not always pointing at the middle of the screen, and you can move the gun freely without moving the camera) so you basically always know where your gun is aimed - right in the middle of the screen. It's also to encourage the use of ironsights.. like in real life.

You can't throw medic packs.

This is to encourage medics to stay with their squads. In real life, there are no "health packs" you can find in the field to patch yourself up with. The medic standing near you with a medic pack out is simply to simulate him patching you up.

You can't see who killed you. That's very annoying imo

If you could see who killed you and with what weapon, you would have a general idea of where they are. It also allows you to confirm kills without visually doing so. You shouldn't be able to shoot somebody from across the map, only to be informed you killed them by text appearing on your screen.

Which chopper? The Merlin or the AH-1z?

To practice flying in a local server see this (http://realitymod.com/forum/t15102-how-to-practice-flyingspan.html) thread.

The Merlin can be found on Operation Ghost Train.

Well if you can see who killed who in real life, then we would probably already figured it out that we killed Osama Bin Laden in the cave.

Yeah, now I've tryed it... Well, ppl needs to learn flying it now.

And remember: Be in the same squad with your pilot, else you can't be a co pilot.. I love the new co-pilot seat. Also TVG fly increase D:
