HKSniper is back today with his latest mod preview, this time we travel back to the Vietnam era with Eve of Destruction (http://www.eodmod.com/forum/portal.php). Here's the introduction to this brand new preview:

I had the pleasure this weekend to be involved in the media party for the modification Eve of Destruction, and I've finally found my way out of the jungle to get this preview out for all of you.

Eve of Destruction has had a full history with the Battlefield series, beginning in it's first release for Battlefield: 1942, and continuing on up to Battlefield: Vietnam. For those who are clueless to what this modification is, simply put, you better have a decent pair of boots, because it's a jungle out there. Eve of Destruction puts you in the feet of the soldiers of the Vietnam war.

Eve of Destruction's environments will be a mixture of open areas and jungle areas. Some maps will feature activity with armor and air, while others may include no vehicles at all. In the play test I was involved in we did not have a chance to see any armor in action, but there were plenty of infantry fighting and some airborne action to be found.

I really had a great time this weekend.

I am sure this mod will rock out there!

I have played 3 great maps.
Radio tower, at the video you can see red sky, best one.

Lost in Vietman.

If they didn't release updates regularly, half the community would piss and moan about the lack of updates.

Oh well, you can't please everybody.

This looks like what Battlefield Vietnam should have been. It brings back memories of playing the BF1942 version. Great work EOD team. I'll be lining up to download on the first day of release.

Soon guys.. We got some good feedback this past weekend.. Now we will tweak some, add in the other maps. Do a little testing and hopefully, bring you guys some jungle combat.

I really can't wait to see what the Dev's made out of it in BF2 engine.
IMHO one of the best mods ever in the battlefield franchise so far.
(BF:V never had the charm EoD had imho)

(and reading through the replies here makes me think they also have the old "paint it black" and "ride of the valkyre" in there just like in the BF42 times)

Then move on , no one is begging anybody to stick around.

I am really pissed I couldn't meet up for the party EOD. I will be playing rounds of this as soon as its out on servers, thats for certain. :D

This mod looks pretty good but i'm wondering if you guys will touch up on some of your animations and models and weapons. Some of the weapons such as the Car and the RPD look kinda bad and was wondering if you guys were gonna touch up on them. Also, some of the models seem kind of bland and not real detailed. Now I know i'm no modder but i'm just pointing out some of the stuff and wonder if you guys will touch up on them.

Yes, we are continuing to always update our mod content and equipment. We are adding new custom animations to the weapons as they are completed. This has been a 22 month long project, done by a small (10 member) team that is unpaid. (As alot of mod teams are.)

Therefore, yes, as we get better at modding and learn more about how BF2 works and functions.. We update and improve our mod. Alot of the weapons are decently detailed. The pictures and video do not do them justice. You'll just have to download the mod and experience it for yourself.

Do some things need work.. Sure, stuff needs work. It always does. Just as I am sure that there are other mods that have far better models, skins, etc. than we do at EoD.

For the record, I just want everyone to know that the EoD mod crew, is not made up of a bunch of professional modders, software engineers, texture artist, etc. We are just your average group of guys having a good time making a fun mod for the gameing public to enjoy.

Myself, I am 40 years old and a Pilot for a charter company based in the Midwest, USA. I fly an airplane for a living. I am not a professional software person, or computer guru.. Yet, I coded almost 85% or so of the content within the EoD mod. I have learned alot on my own. I have had alot of great mentors as well to help me learn.

As for other members of the team. We've got a Police Officer, a Music Artist/Guitar Teacher, A Computer Programmer of Machine Tools, A Flower Shop Owner, A Stock person at a Grocery Store and Full Time Students, either in High School or College. It is a very diverse group. We exist to have fun. I am sure our Mod team is similiar in cross-section of talent, like other teams. Most of us are self taught and not experts.

Again, to answer your question.. Yes, we are always updating things. :D

Everything I've seen looks great!! Except one tiny thing. :)

The North Vietnamese support gun (looks like an RPK) seems to have way too much muzzle flash. I saw the video of someone using ti with iron sights up and the muzzle flash totally obscures the target. It looks like a flamethrower almost. Perhaps you can make the muzzle flash smaller? Otherwise very nice stuff. I loved the BF1942 EoD for all the immersion and it looks like you guys are gonna delivery again.

i think allot of that muzzle flash and others saying that skins don't look all that good is mostly due to youtube. youtube absolutely butchers video quality, im sure those videos are really no true justice as to how crisp and good everything looks.

i put together a few tunes to get you pumped for EOD2, hope you guys enjoy!

I think that people who have such good advice on what needs to be a little better (like, Fishw0rk & masterllama) should join your team and help the great EOD team make a great mod just a little better…
As for me, the mod is free... and for the price it looks GREAT! Thanks EOD for the time you have put in to making the rest of us happy with a great mod.
