Admittedly, my main reason is because I'd love to create some new machinima projects with the game's existing assets but I'm also really curious to see how the new features influence gameplay and tactics within the Battlefield universe. There was a lot to learn and master with BF2 and I'm sure this title will be much the same.
I'd really like to hear from others on this subject. What is it about BF2142 you're anticipating the most?
Truthfully im not.
I will only be thinking about getting this game if EA/Dice fix the bugs in the Engine, they have said they were makeing improvements to the engine but they didnt go into detail.
Hopwfully they will give us more info at E3.

DICE has always had a knack for a getting the era down right. I think this game is going to represent the future very well and feel like a very different game from BF2.

Yes, from what it looks like as you guys will see in the PC Gamer May Issue and after e3 is the game keeps stuff in proportion and does not get out of hand with futuristic items.
From the info I have dug up some of it not known to the public yet has made me intrested in the game even though I hated BF2 . . .

It looks like its gonna be a great game, but i am not gonna buy another Online PC game from EA/DICE. They screwed up Bf2 with every patch that came out. Not one patch other than the first one had made the game better. The performance got worse, there were more bugs and the gameplay got worse. So im just not gonna get any more of these games.

Spetsnaz']...and feel like a very different game from BF2.
And that's what I'm afraid of. I have faith in EA/DICE to make a good game but I don't want to venture to far from what was a winning formula in the first place. If it ain't broke don't fix it. That's what kinda happened with BF1942. It was an amazing game that kind of got it's reputation ruined by BFV. Like I said though, I do have faith that EA/DICE will deliver a very satisfying game.

Wasn't a fan of Mech Assult and this looks to close. Will get the demo when it comes out and then I can say yes/no. Was really hoping they would put some fixes out for BF2 before they started working on a new one.

I'm very sceptical about this, it might be another BF2, comeout horribly bugged and then a flurry of expansion packs will be released to fix it.. They better have a new engine cause the BF2 engine is so poorly programmed, it renders everything even though it should only render what you can see, it forces DX9 which means it runs horribly on low end cards, at least it has mechs *grin*

I don't see how it's reputation was ruined by BFV. BFV was a great game.. what was bad about it? It wasn't buggy at all.
As I said above, they captured the era very well with the music and the cities. I just think people were spoiled after playing DC. Nevertheless that had gigantic sales and so did BF2.
I dunno.. I could seem like a fanboy... but one day I'm going to get the rest of the guys here at MyIS and we'll have a marathon of BF gaming. We'll play a couple hours of each version of the game. You real the diversity when you do something like that.

I'm excited for the new features in each kit, and.... the mechs :)
No matter what people say about BF2 or how many bugs it has, it still kicks ***, we all still love to play it. Same goes with BF2142, I cant wait for this game, just like i couldnt wait for BF2 when we were all playing BF:V
This game gonna rawk. Looking forward to its release.

If the hype of the video's and screen shots can live up to the expectations this is going to be a great game.... Time will tell though.

Hey guys just registered. I am actually looking forward to this game now cause they said that they started working on it right as BF2 came out. that way they will have put just as much effort and time as BF2. I just with tey would've gone toally next gen like Crysis with the new DX10. but too bad Battlefield 3142 will have it. ;)

After patching 1.00 ATI users got random crashes, a lot ( i ran a 9800) so nothing like flying a chopper only to be poped outta the game and have the bird drop like a rock to piss your buddy off.
Napalm & glitch, nuff said.
Their were ways to get inside buildings that normaly couldn't be reached which would let people fire out but not all weapons fire in.
Music was a lame gimmick that helped to really and i mean really lag things up. Luckly the tourney i played for banned that useage.
Historical anything was a joke.
Kit/historical balance issues.
Helicopters, nuff said.
But it deserved kudos for additional content, i think the game in it's life time got 4 extra maps not counting that bs WWII offical mod. Added the loach, the lameo TV guided missile, ontos, the two 1942 planes, and from what i recall the historicaly inaccurate T-72. EoD i think got the air fixed/rotor right and PoE was nice as well.
BFV was my first BF game and I really like Viet era stuff but BFV made everything into a joke. The infantry combat was alright after being patched fully except the M203s which a lot of people disliked partly due to map/custom map balance issues and the Mat 49 balance issues. Like in BF2 there was a 1hit kill tank to tank type B bug. A huey could never be beaten by the MI-8 even in 1v1, the rule of 6 still made transports a bore, their wasn't any squad hopping because their were no squads which made things fun except for the rule of six which ruined big stuff a bit. Parachutes sucked. AlfFX's historical maps rocked. Overall for it's time the game was alright.
I still say that VIETCONG and maybe Men of Valor are the only two games to do Vietnam well. MoV is a bunch of BS but gives a feel for the city combat while Vietcong suffered the AI bugs and such that many games of it's time did but it got the era down really well which is surprising because it was made by Euro devs. I'd expect the US or Aussies to be making a Nam game.
BF2 & BFV both have a large share of BS but the games are really similar when one looks at the core of gameplay. I feel that the gimmick features start to detract from a great core concept but they are what helps the game sell in the long run. :/ Hmm PoE 1 or BF2 as is. I think i recall PoE being less frustrating on the overall and I have an Arty gun teamwork fetish.
Spetsnaz you don't sound like a fan boi but you don't sound like you looked into BFV and other era games as much as I did. I don't think a couple hours would cut it, maybe a real classics battle day or two for each would. ;)

Heh, you'd think so but I've been playing BF since the demo of Wake for 1942. I got BFV the day it was released and played it until POE was released. I played POE for a while and took on BF2.
I ran an ATI 9600 and never had any issues.
Every game has bugs, I don't deny that. Those that experience the bugs have a really bad time ... that's for sure. I never experienced any lag from the music. Never had alot of problems with infantry battles.. so it's hard or me to relate.
BFV definitely wasn't a Vietnam era fan game. I don't know much detail about the war in Vietnam (I focused all my studies on WW2), so BF1942 really did it for me. Anyway... there was alot about that game that I really liked. It didn't hold as much attention as BF2 does now or BF1942 did then, but it still did alot of things right.
It says alot for me since I'm not the type that play 20 games at once.. I can only play one and play it well :D

Strange about the 96, recall the first patch or two messing up anything?
What i'm wondering is during what patch did you play BFV and how did you? By how i mean Pub, Clan, MYIS style tourney like Napalm Dawn or VNC for that game because community factors are large for many people. It could be argued that 42 got additional sales because of DC or Forgotten hope or that the attenton spand of the gamer (or hardened gamer) is shorter when they aren't/can't be a part of organized gameplay stuff.
The inf kit balance popped up in organized play. 1.00 was a total joke but the later patching that tryed to balance the machineguns and anti tank kits didn't go all the way. Anyone who wanted to play USA engineer had to get HS and when compairing the two engineer kits from the US and the VC their was a major balance issue because the VC sides could stand up to the other classes well. Other kits, armys, map balance, were rocky.
If it wasn't for the 21CW-like stuff the pubbie stupidity would have driven me away by the 6month mark of the release where players could go up to 100 kills in a huey vs the idiots in 15min. And it's the same case here for 21CW and regular BF2. Heck, only reason i'm around these parts is because i scored BF2/SF for 20USD togather which is what i say the're worth :D
If you want some insight into Nam go check out ChickenHawk by Robert Mason or Firebirds by Chuck Carlock. Those two have a focus on the Helicopter stuff. For info on the tunnel stuff (which was made a feature later on if you recall) check out The Tunnels of Cu Chi.
After doing my homework it seems like BFV was going in the right direction but stopped about half way. No other game has featured the air combat cept BFV, Vietcong did the tunnels well for MP, and for army vs VC or NVA BFV just seems like an unfinished game. Just seems like with some more work it could have gone all the way to a gold standard type game. After organized gameplay I'm coming away from that game disatisified because of Could Of's. :(
Would be nice to go back and check things out again if it could be organized.

We'll see you all over here playing 2142 when you guys realize you can't have large outdoor environments or vehicle integration that "feels right" with the Quake 4 engine. However, we'll see at E3 if I'm right or wrong. :D
Quick question though, why did these people just sign up to say they're not going to play 2142? Do they think we need to know their opinon that bad?

Everyone is ofcourse entitled to an opinion. Wether a fan site or not, people will join to say what they have on their minds. I still believe when push comes to shove, the people posting these comments will end up getting the game anyway just to prove to themselves what they are missing out on. I have been a part of the BF comunity since the beginning and no matter where you go you will see people complain and moan aboout the game play. What these people are not realizing is they are playing on FREE servers that other people pay for monthly. Still not satisfied? EA has done nothing but listen to the community to make changes to satisfy the needs for us. What most people dont understand is this is an ongoing process and will NEVER end. People will always want more for free. I had a friend once tell me "If I offer a pot of gold they would complain because its too heavy."
It will NEVER be perfect and people will NEVER be fully satisfied. If you give an inch, people will expect a foot. I am very proud of what I have seen in the BF series.

Although the trailer showed the same engine, just skinned differently, as Battlefield 2, please do not expect a Fall 06 release date.
If you go back and look at the design process of Battlefield 2, you'll see the changes they made. I'm hoping for the best on this game.

I am really looking forward to this new addition to the Battlefield2 Series. It looks great. I hope they check it once and twice and three times so they don't ruin their name by releasing a patch the next day. I like EA games and DICE. Realeasing patch next day is no good for their name.
