I was talking with a buddy and we both feel it will be like some kind of folding wing that folds out from under your arms and it will allow you to glide. Which will be pretty slick if it is the case. In the new trailer the guys jump off and go into about a 45 degree dive so it possible. Dice did say there won't be parachutes anymore.

The pods get you into titan but what gets you off? Should be intresting to see.

I too was gonna suggest that they might of implemented something like a gliding ability, like somthing out of Batman Begins, only not as fancy. If so this could prove to be fun in possible mods in the future that may exploit it.

I'm thinking about that Jelly-like substance from some movie I heard about...the jelly would explode out from under you and cushion your impact, but it would only have 2 or 3 uses before you need it 'refilled'. This would further increase the teamwork values that DICE and EA really want to make possible in this game.

EDIT: -Because a support soldier would have to supply the ammo to you (if this is still one of support's roles in the game).

if it's not jumpjets like in Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun, and it's not regular parachutes, it's gonna be retractable wings. I mean nothing else makes much sense. Airbags like used on Mars probes would just be too silly.

lol you notice that in any preview in the game, including actual game play footage from the floor, everytime someone jumps from an aircraft or the titan, or is falling any distance...they hit the ground and die....as in they don't deploy what ever it is that they are supposed to land safely with. Does it mean that there isn't anything for that in the playable demo at E3?

in all reality, why not Jumpjets? for god's sake, Tiberian Sun had them. What's wrong with a frigging jetpack? Are they retarded? I mean come on, it makes so much sense. If sense were cents, they'd be flat broke.

I seriously don't see a more semi-futuristic parachute than a jumpjet. If they can't see that, give us back our nylon parachutes.

Jetpacks wouldn't be very realistic. The cost of equipping an army with them would be great and in this world resources are limited. It would be too costly to be practical. They would be limited to specialist troops who are all about speed and mobility, IE the Recon classes, and since the Recon classes already have the cloak and possibly the missle magnet thing then they would be a bit overpowered.

But it's the only thing I can see as possible except maybe a grav chute. A backpack that lessens gravity's effect on you so that rather then plummeting down like you would on Earth, you float down like landing on the moon or something. It could work though it is a bit far fetched :p

EDIT- Also one reason they haven't shown anything about this is possibly because DICE wants to make it a surprise. But who knows.

I think that is the real reason there. On all the videos that Dice has released, it looks as though they purposely left that part out. Either they haven't implemented a device for free falls, or they have something pretty cool that they want to surprise us with.

Methinks that there will be some sort of metal plates integrated into the lower back and legs of the soldiers clothes. Beside each of these plates will be a wire leading to a small battery pack in the backpack, then, a small switch on the knee will power the small coils inside the metal plates to make an electromagnet. The electromagnet will attempt to repel from the Earth's natural gravity, but the weight of the person will continue downwards but not as rapidly.

So basically a cushion is made between *** and ground before they make contact ^^

as i have said before, I think they may make a little forcefield around the person, after all the titan has a forcefield, so why cant a person? Your speed wont decrease when you falll, and when you make impact with the ground, the forcefield will somehow help you absorb the impact and not get hurt. It will shatter and you go on your merry way.

Well, once could assume that powering a forcefield would require a MASSIVE powersource. Titians seem to be huge armoured powerplants equiped with Ion Drives ( http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70795&highlight=Jugga%2C+Bugga ). Ion thrust could possibly be used via emiter arrays to create a classic "force field" by projecting thrust towards incoming ordanance, thus greating them with a dose of raw kinetic energy. This is about the only rational explination for a forcefield I've come across (well, aside from hyper magnatised armour plating... but that's obviously not what we're looking at here).

Point is two fold:
- The energy required to make a force field would be so massive that strapping it to a grunt is not likely to ever be possible.
- Forcefields can't reduce inertia. They aren't magic bubble that would stop you from going *splat* when you hit the ground.

That said, it's possible that there could be a micro pulse version of an ion drive that a grunt could strap on to counter-thrust against falls. Power requirements would still be very high, but we can imagine that some kind of super battery has been developed by 2142.

EA will use some form of crappy parachutes, I can almost garantee it. Probably the same ones from BF2 because mankind can't develop anything better then that by 2142 of course.

I'd like to see some sort of jet boots that can cushion the landing or some sort of inflating suit that allows soldiers to littlerally hit a air bag type surface.

if you watch taht 21 minute video from planetbf, you'll see the guy use an actual parachute on a few ocasions, as well as spawning in the sky and crashing to the ground without being hurt.

I just watched that 20 mins long bf2142 movie(link on homepage of site www.totalbf2142.com) and they do have parchutes but they lok weird. Its like 3 of the bf2 parachutes put together on like a 3 blade helipcopter blade.

The Parachute has been revealed!!! In the 20 minute video available here (http://downloads.branzone.com/bf2142/movies/) You see tha the parachute is much like the ones we use now. It seems to be 3 small rectangles that form a triangle around the guy.Each rectangle is arranged so that the short end is toward the middle. Download the video and watch and in a few short minutes, you'll see them use it.

However, I dont think you spawn in a pod when you spawn on a becon, but when you spawn on a missle slilo.

I watched enough to see what the chute looked like and that looks like what the chute would logically look like from below. they probably thought it'd be cool to show a guy parachuting from the Titan as it blew up since I think they're hinting that you get bonus points for surviving the explosion.

I mean, sure its of some interest but being on the same engine i bet it'll have the same feel as the BF2 parachutes... personally i don't care they have to deploy a thousand fluffy bunny rabbits for me to land on, so long as it works :D
