What are your thoughts on the mod?

Personally, i think it is amazing. I was playing Deep Jungle, and it was like i was actually there. The noise and the lighting is excellent. Little Vietnamese soldiers running into my Thompson fire, is hugely satisfying.

How about everyone else?

I think its superb.

The mortars, the Huey, the music playing on the radios..

I tip my hat to the dev team.

People need to try this mod.

the sniper rifles are to strong

the sounds need to be worked on

the colours on the scoreboard need a fix

I was getting frustrated getting killed by a sniper in one hit right when I spawn :mad:

Its definitely the best mod I've played so far. The maps are amazing, especially Dawn At the Rice Paddies. The jungle foliage is very well done, so many places to hide.

The mod is by far the best I've played so far. I've tried:

EoD
PR

While DCON brings back the DC fun, it brings nothing new. I give the dev team credit for the replicas of the old maps, but I haven't seen any new content with the exception of one map, and a modded Masturr. The sounds are, well, pretty lame, and the game is poorly optimized.

PR is a pretty amazing mod, but it turned an arcade game into a simulator. If it were more arcade based, the mod would be fantastic. The sound are great, the atmosphere is amazing, especially when cobras and A10s fly by. BUT, the spawn times are incredibly long, the whole kit request thing is annoying and rather stupid IMHO.

EoD2 however pretty much got it right. The sound is purely amazing. The foliage is extremely detailed, the battles are intense and it brings NEW CONTENT to the game. There's only one thing I noticed they ported over, and that was the sound of the tank firing. Everything else is pretty much new content. My hats off to the dev team. They did a hell of a job.

However, I do have a gripe. While the infantry battles are NICE, I believe there was only ONE map with the Huey in it! Hell, I can't even find the Cobra. I also only saw one map with a tank in it! Basically, my only gripe is a lack of vehicles and good vehicle battles.

Other than that - AMAZING mod!

It seems BSS contains a pretty talented team! EoD is amazing, PR is decent, and I'm hoping and praying that USI will follow suit!

You should try POE2 jnick...based on your feedback of the other mods I get the impression you'll like that one.

To get back on topic...EoD is OK for a first release. Needs various tweaks to gameplay, probably a third of the maps I really didn't care for and the mod badly needs more maps with vehicles(this is battlefield...gimme some vehicles to play with!).

Bear in mind that as we have stated before, this was mainly an infantry release.

We want to get it ballanced and playing nice before adding tons of vehicles in the next major release.

A little too much infantry combat for me. I prefer vehicles. I'll be waiting for future releases. In the meantime, I'll keep playing BFV for my vietnam fix. :)

I really liked it and the whole atmosphere from playing it , my only complaint would be that the mossin ( non-scoped ) needs to do more damage it took me like 2-3 shots to kill someone and the mossin sniper is overpowered , other than that absolutely amazing job thanks to the devs !

If its not vanilla then sniper rifles should be limited, or a lot harder to use. I mean no disrespect, but i dont see how sniper-kits-for-all makes sense when they are this powerful.

PR is amazing, i think the whole long spawn time is a good idea it forces people to work together, since if you die a medic can quickly fix you up again.
the spawn kit requesting is a good idea since it stops people going 'lone wolf' and spamming the sniper kit, since theres only about 2 or 3.

I loved EoD2 i think it comes second next to PR. But the thing that turned me off was the fact that no one worked together. Every one just spammed the Support kit or sniper and went it alone.
I loved the maps especially the We Were Soliers remake. Since it is the first release i know that you have quite alot of work to do. But IMO i think that you really need to emphisise Team Work alot more. And maybe Use something like PR's AAS system whereby you dont just run around cap this flg then move on cap that flag sort of feel. If you sort out the TW then i think that this Mod could be one of the best ive played! Nice Work Devs cant wait for next release!

hmm.. between the large scale vehicle battles(Dcon) and the jungle infantry warfare(EOD), the battlefield experiance is complete.Its exactly what vanilla bf2 was missing from day 1. Well done modders, u have achieved what the idiots at EA couldnt understand. Now if only there was more support for this mod in australia(as we get high pings to everywhere else in the world) it would be just great. Dcon seems to be going ok, but its still shaky (in australia that is) with a player base of roughly 100-200 ppl playing reguraly, so i hope more ppl here see the light and start playing these mods more.

a few things id like to see different
1. lots more vehicles- vietnam was known as the "helicopter war". theres few maps that have helicopters and the ones that do dont have enough. a map that features PBR's(patrol boat river) would be really cool. and it needs jets.
F4 phantoms at least maybe some A-1's and F105s or A-4s. the NVA could get mig 17s and mig 21s or they could get lots of AA guns all over the place if you want to be more historically accurate. i understand the logic of making the first release primarily infantry but id love to see helo maps.

2. The Guns- too inaccurate, for me anyway. it seems that with any of the full auto guns you take 2 or 3 shots and youre shooting straight up, even if prone.( here come the flames. wait lemme guess "you just suck at aiming" (and i know some smartass is gonna reply quoting me saying "thats true")or "you havent gotten used to them yet") with this going on it becomes just lots of spray and pray nonsense everywhere with snipers and mortars being the only ones doing any real damage.

3. Maps- i like the feeling of the jungle and the way it really would be in nam but i can barely see. the maps are too dark and too heavily vegetaed(if thats a word). again its cool how its realistic but dont make it TOO realistic so it isnt fun anymore.

i really like the mortars and artillery in this game. thats the best idea ive seen in any mod for any BF ever. i cant beleive noone thought of that sooner. i also like the M14 having the full auto feature which is something not a lot of people know about. overall the mod is great but it could be better.

I think I saw Bigfoot in the jungle on one of the maps. I tried to get a screen shot but my camera mysteriously didn't work at the time. I then tried to just shoot it but my sniper rifle was out of bullets and my pistol jammed. Just as I was going to knife it I was mortar-whored by someone. To top all of this off, Bigfoot then tea-bagged me like 3 or 4 times as I lay there crying for a medic.

Thank you guys for the feedback. Both good and bad. We are addressing the issues and concerns everyone has been talking about. Hopefully, we will get a patch out first of the week that will address the issues.

Love the mod! You really brought the feel of Vietnam to BF2, Good Job!

Some concerns:
1) I think limiting of Sniper Rifles may be in order..(but dont nerf them)
2) I didnt notice any appreciable accuracy bonus for using ironsights over just crosshair (I mean at distances greater than 40m or more)
3) Had some disconnect/server crash experiences on several different servers.

Pro's:
1) I love the mortors also the arti system with the chase-cam views.
2) Over all emersion has been excellent, creeping through the weeds has been awesome. :D
3) Some really good, realistic firefights... No rambos dodging bullets, i like that the most!

Just wanted to comment real quick about the sounds in the mod. There are some good ones and some bad ones.

The M16 and American Spec ops guns could use some new sounds I think, but other than that I like alot of them.

I know this is kinda morbid too, but I like the new death sounds the soldiers make after they die. I noticed it when some of my squad members got shot and they were saying "MAMA...MAMA" and "I Don't wana Die" and this one time when I stabbed an American soldier on the VC side he said "Fu#$ YOU CHARLIE GO TO HELL!" THAT IS JUST GREAT!!!

Keep up the GREAT work guys.

They should put night vision in. They had it in Nam I'm pretty sure, just have to make it a little different than the special forces night vision since it was about 30 years ago

They had Starlight scopes in Vietnam, but not very many of them. That is something we might do for a future release. In regards to the dark maps. There are only 5 in the current build (out of 16). We will probably end up with a better mix of maps as we add more maps to the mod build.

This build concentrated on Infantry combat. Next MAJOR release, we will concentrate on some vehicular maps. With a possible city map as well. (Have to see how the city map progress goes.) We should have more chopper maps and some aircraft maps. Along with a map or two that features more armor.

EoD2 is a cool mod. TrahnLee or other developres, here is a list of fixes.

*Change the color of the SCOREBOARD-Menu. I like green, but its ugly on the scoreboard. When teammates are alive, the names will be blue. When the background color is green, its very hard to see the blue names. Also, the scoreboard is a little bit ugly right now (I had to say it).
Also, the white stripe on the "Server info" button needs to be changed. Its ugly.

*There is a bug on the "Dawn At The Rice Paddies"-map on the "US Checkpoint" flag. If you go to one of the towers and get in the LMG, you cant get out. To get out I have to push the suicide button.

*On the Vietcong team, the Engineer class has the "SKS" weapon. When you are reloading this weapon you cant see the clip/magazine.
This bug when you cant see the clip while reloading may occur on other weapons too, Im not sure yet.

Other than this, the mod is great.

well I finally saw the monkeys last night, in fact its was such a shock I served my jeep and crashed into a tree.

Enjoying. Hours fly by. Got a bit of team play going last night.

Thoughts. Better when...

Some weaker maps are removed from cycles. That small river one most go.

More helis. I have played for +10 hours. Managed to get into one heli on we were soldiers only to die and get swapped over to VC.

Some sounds like "i see charlie every where" have no distance variable. Especially annoying is mortor leaving tube sound and someone hitting fire constantly. Why is "charlie helicopter" said by VC BTW?

Snipers are restricted in numbers. 1 per squad maybe even less. Not a great fan as a pick up kit because talented snipers and good squads using tactics will get frustrated.

Less nades.

One more mag each.

Slower mortor reload. But mortors are brilliant. But this is not the Somme in WW1. When jets and gunships are added infantry will not get far with being blown up.

More dusk/night maps.

Tone down Support weapon ever so slightly. Great job just too deadly.

Single player heli map with gunship. So I can play and learn.

I couldnt find any forum or thread relating to EOD except this one so ima post here, I aint gonna flame just constructive crits :)

Basically i think EOD2 is the dogs billocks for a first release, I wont compare it to other mods as this is set in a totally diff time to most others like POE/PR etc etc so i see no point in comparisons tbh..

I aint to sure how many peeps played the first version of EOD, Those who did will recognise EOD instantly as it has the same feel to it if that makes sense, Not to arcade based and not to harsh on the realism side of things just like EOD allways was, And there maps imo have retained that special eod atmosphere even if 1 or 2 could do with a few tweaks here and there.

Sniper rifles - The biggest prob with this weapon is the fact that 50% of each team will sit idle useing his scope, This results in small 3-4 man teams fighting over flags while the other 40 peps hide in bushes etc thinking they Zaitzev.
Deep Jungle is a perfect example as most time i play it the Americans are sat in there base sniping while the tickets bleed to zero, Not very intresting imo and im sure the creator didnt have that scenario in mind when he made the map..

Dark maps - I have allways disliked these maps on the BF engine and still do although i accept they have and will allways be a part of EOD, However i would like it if the flares were added like they were in the old EOD.(If they are in i aint seen em).

Morters - Seem kewl to me and very easy to use, Maybe reload times are a lil to low but meh i like them as is, They finally get used a lot where in most games they get left unused for the most part.

Rifles/LMG's etc - I dont have a prob with any of the guns really apart from maybe the PPSH, In my opinion that gun is just far to powerfull and i have np's dropping peeps from really silly ranges, It's an SMG not the equivilant of an LMG.

Nades - I dunno what can be done about these but i feel there are far to many, Some times there can be 20-30 nades being spammed at one flag wich is to much imo and needs toneing down a tad, Power is ok just to many of em..

Dodgey animations etc i can live with and hopefully they sorted in later releases, For now though they dont effect gameplay so i see no probs.
Same with teh vehichles, We all knew that it would be infantry based on the first release so again i can live without tanks etc dotted allover the place.

Long first post i know but i wanted to have a lil input regardless of how small/large, Hopefully 1-2 things can be tweaked over the coming weeks and then we will be in for a treat.

My first impressions of the mod are good and probably exceeded what i was hopeing for, However i think probs like the sniper percentage has to be sorted or the mod will lose numbers fast...

I posted this in the main release thread but I just wanted to quote it here since this seems to be the official feedback thread (?):

After playing some more I have some further suggestions:


1) Errrr I think you guys may want to look into limiting the sniper kit somehow. Right now there are so many snipers on each team that the gameply degrades into hiding in a bush for most of the round and taking pot shots at the other team. Dont get me wrong--I love the idea of being an opportunistic killer, but the snipers have been getting out of hand. I'd reccommend making the sniper kit a pickup kit only or trying to implement some type of kit limiting system like PR. Personally I think the pickup kit solution is the easiest. Thoughts anyone?

2) I really think the out of bounds zones need to be relaxed on some of the maps. Right now alot of maps turn into a nade spam fest because flanking manuvers are so limited. There are some maps where its near impossible for a team to leave their main base because the sniper fire and nade spam kills them on respawn. I think removing (or relaxing) the out of bounds zone would be a step in the right direction, and also considering possibly adding a dome of death around main bases.

3) More smoke nades for VC Pointman class. He only gets 1! In fact I'd like to see more smoke nades in general among the classes. I especially think the medic class should get smokes instead of frags, since it can assist in reviving teammates under cover.

Despite the stuff I wrote I'm still having a TON of fun with the mod. Very good for a first release and its nice to see BF2 mods finally starting to gain some momentum.


I two more suggestion/observations hehe:

4) Remove the super zoom on the VC officer's Mosin. Right now it zooms in so far its as if he has a scope on it. I think this may be a bug though.

5) The door MGs on the Huey need a larger field of view and a little less deviation IMHO.

I think we need cobra's, huey gunships, chinook's, jets with napalm, and more tanks. As it stands I am alright with infantry but that is not why I bought battlefield 2. I bought the game for the same reason 1942 was so popular everyone loved the fact you could get into a tank or just sit around and camp as infantry. The fact is theres just not enough of these things.

I can't complain about sniper but it is a game. There is just to many people playing just sniper. I mean its a great kit and in the real vietnam war mortars and snipers were a pretty big thing, but some encouragement of playing the other kits would be awesome. Infantry is pretty bad *** but like I said the grenade spam, snipers, and mortars are kind of annoying. I mean I have literally been in a game where every second I spawned I had 3-4 snipers all taking shots at me. I was in War Is Hell where some guy just sit outside our base in the weeds the one base that hardly none of my team was at and sniped. He didn't bother to try to come take it, and then pretty soon a whole squad appeared. I mean did just spawn at another base to avoid it. I don't care about the other things? Just need some tanks, and helos to make things cool..

Perhaps bigger maps would be more adjusting and some transportation. Thats all I asked. I was a huge fan of the vietnam game. Alot of people from 1942 couldn't make the move but I loved the vegetation, the entire game was freaking awesome.

I had my doubts on this of course. I actually made a pretty foul post on their forums awhile back about how foul the models at one point looked. Now that I actually play the game is pretty awesome looking, and really enjoyable. So I guess I should apologize for my statements made that time. Sorry.

Exelent mod ....just a few things need ironing out ..mostly what ppl have suggested above...the main thing is definatly the lack of vehicles..but as Junglist said this is only infantry map release....I hope we can expect some of the classic 1942 maps like Charlie dont surf, Khe sanh, Vinh loc, An Lao Valley ect ect in future updates...keep up the great work devs ;)


Oh and a realy nice map i think is Jungle Heat....flying medevac hueys through the network of rivers givs a nice nam feel to it..would be great to see that map in eod2

yeah, we wanted to get the infantry "base" of the mod nicely balanced before we start throwing too many vehicles in there. We do have a lot ready to go, they just don't feature in the maps yet (cobra, mig21, various tanks/apcs)

Lets stop beating a dead horse with "needs more vehicles" for two reasons:
1. This is the first release.
2. They said they wanted to focus on infantry with this first release.

If you haven't played EoD for BF1942 or BF:V then trust me, there will plenty of vehicles!

Constructive criticism:
-I'm okay with the power of the sniper rifle. However, when half my team and half the enemy team is comprised of snipers I really get angry. Go play vanilla or make a single player map and mess with bots if you're going to whore the sniper kit.
-Mortars. Very cool weapon. The tubes are small so I assume they are 60mm. Maybe sound and blast radius should be adjusted to suit this.
-GIVE ME CCR! ;)
-U.S. Marines anytime soon? ;) Can't help but ask

Overall:

So excited to play this, its great. Very solid first release. Much more fun than vanilla and PR. Can't wait for more!

FREAKIN SWEET! I haven't noticed so much the mortars, but the sniper thing really gets me. I think 75% of the time I get killed by snipers, and it leaves flags unasaulted.


Other than the sniper thing, I love this Mod! Great job to all who had anything to do with creating it! To me its great because it does emphasize teamwork. I think the stat-related unlocks is what made BF2 (and 2142 for that matter) turn into a stat-whore fest. I am guilty of this myself. In 2142, especially I found myself checking my personal stats before seeing which team won the round. Also, maybe I'm stupid, but many times in 2142 I could not tell when and if a team was on ticket bleed. Most of the time I didn't know what would even CAUSE a ticket bleed. I know that if I didn't know most of the other noobs didn't know as well. Made for a very boring experience IMO.

Here is what I LOVE about EoD2.... It seems like people really care about the final result of the round which is what it should be about in the first place. Perhaps its just that the game is simple... You have several flags, get one more than half and the other team bleeds. I LOVE IT!!! This type of game play really creates a battle front. It doesn't feel like you are flying around capping flags all the time. I feel like I am doing something that makes since and that makes the game 1000 times more immersive.

I would like to see some servers playing the other game types, though just to see what they are like.

Edit: It would also be cool if the medic's syringe could kill enemy. Like a morphine overdose or something. That would be cool.

My favorite part is when you revive a US troop and he says, "Oh no! Back in the Nam!" That is freaking great!

Check out the new patch details. I think I will like most of the changes. Still 1shot 1kill for the snipers, but it looks like the rifles will more difficult to use. I HATE SNIPERS! I hope this stops so many people from killing me. :D :D

While DCON brings back the DC fun, it brings nothing new. I give the dev team credit for the replicas of the old maps, but I haven't seen any new content with the exception of one map, and a modded Masturr. The sounds are, well, pretty lame, and the game is poorly optimized.


Have to disagree with you there. Considering DCOn has a great arty system (if you played DC, you will like it).

3 new game modes (domination is in tourneys already, as well as CTF)

A scud (that sounds amazing, and is a blast to play)

A new map (outskirts of mosul) that is my favorite Infantry yet.

The music is better than any other mod (Nice DnB track, and the menu song kicks ***). The sounds are great IMO, the A10 is a beast, as well as others. The code for the distance you cxan hear sounds from needs work, but they say its the current fix they are doing (as well as all new Iraqi voices and volumes, thank god)


As for EOD, its a lot of fun, but I can see why its not that populated atm. The maps I played didn't work for good moving infantry. The graphics on the characters need work, as well as the skins for the weapons.

The sound from EOD sound like th last BF1942 version. Did you use the same sounds? If so, they are still great. The opening song is bad ***, just like it was in the first EOD. The map loading songs are cool, but the effects are out of time on the guitar, and its kind of lofi, maybe a bit too lofi?

Nice job EOD, can't wait for the next release. :)

I liked it but missing air power like the first EOD. I miss my f4

People need to try this mod.

stalker, I beleive there are 3 or 4 SP maps - I didn't try them, though.

ya theres 3 maps its funny when you play the night one the bots automatically knwo where you are and start shooting the crap out of before you can see them

ya the music is al right and the voices are superb "to hell with that" LOL
but the grenade spam is annoying
even tho i never had EOD1 there should some aircraft in this one

Needs the ARVN. I don't like how it's a US vs. Vietnam thing, it's a US vs. NORTH Vietnam thing. Besides, the ARVN were a big part of the war.

ARVN and the Aussie's are coming to the Jungle. Several character models have already been done.

We've got so much stuff just sitting that needs finished that it would make your head spin.

I must have 10 or so vehicles to get in. Several airplanes, all new choppers to name a few. Most of this stuff is done, textured and ready to go, just needs to be coded and fleshed out to be used within the mod.

We are trying guys, we really are. We are just a small team.

The gameplay in this MOD feels so right. I have even heard of a server that will kick if you use the sniper rifles. HAHA

I have a new-ish constructive criticism. Some of the sounds (Sorry, the medic revive sound) for the Vietnamese aren't there, and instead there are the Chinese ones. These should be recorded. Hell, I'd re-record most of the Vietnamese dialog to up the quality.

a) the sniper rifles are to strong

b) the sounds need to be worked on

c) the colours on the scoreboard need a fix

d) I was getting frustrated getting killed by a sniper in one hit right when I spawn :mad:

After 3 hours of playing it, please to report:

a) fixed - but still deadly in the right hands.
b) fixed - no more perpetual motar sounds.
c) fixed - very readable.
d) bugger all people using the sniper kits.
