On this IGN link it has an interview with the lead devloper. He says that there are certine unlocks you can only use when in a squad. Do you think this is a good thing.

Basically my quam is that you will have everyone in a squad but no one working together becasue they just want to use there cool sniper unlock but they must be in a squad to do it.

A counter to that would be just make your own and be in it by yourself and that would work. Also here the link to the video, when the page loads, click watch it now on the Video Interview.

Also he says that it will be released in fall.

well I don't think the sniper unlocks will be for squads since snipers, even in real life, aren't much of team players.

Unlocks for squads only will likely be things that help the squad stay alive. Like better anti-tank missiles, maybe binoculars, maybe if you make it to the top rank, you can call in an airstrike but only if you're in a squad. Oh, and that cool little drone is only for squadleaders.

EMP grenades?
They said the EMP will work better when more grenades are thrown at the same object (like mech)..
Maybe the Armor and Sprint upgrades?

What confuses me is..
"Marcus Nilsson: There is actually more change between BF2 and BF2142 than between BF1942 and BF"

They added alot more im guessing. It's still in it's alpha stages so they can really change pretty much anything at this point really.

.

is that so? You'll actually find that snipers are in sniper teams/sections and are a great aid to the rest of their troop/platoon and direct fire onto the enemy and observe target movements and report those movements to the rest of their platoon.

Maybe in real life, and when reporting to entire platoons. But in a GAME, where you can only have 6 people in a squad, someone who can contribute actual firepower or aid directly to the squadmembers would be of more value. Snipers can still call out troop movements to the team without being in a squad.

And to the original question, I believe that the items such as ammo and med packs will only be allowed to be carried by someone who is in a squad. This is probably to help prevent lone wolfing and camping. Cause if you can't heal yourself or resupply yourself, then you won't last long by yourself.

True. In real life snipers help out a lot. But in the game they are useless. So I hope that the snipers can get there unlocks whilst not in a squad that way they dont mess up the people working together up.

I wouldn't say snipers are useless. They can be extremely helpful scouts and they can put fear in the other team. If you have a good sniper, then the other team will not stop moving the entire game.

Hell, one well hidden sniper without cloak can pinch the other team's reinforcements rather tight for a good stretch of time. Imagine now with the cloaking ability, even from the air a sniper would be hard to spot dispite the air distortion the cloak generates, and for people on the ground, most snipers I'd imagine would be too far away for the distortion to be seen without zooming.

Decloak, shoot, cloak, move (optional but wise) or wait, and repeat. I'd shudder at the thought of 2 or more good snipers doing a base rape with this ability.

(Off Topic) I wonder if they'll make snipers/ specforces visable on the uav in 2142. Or if a cloaked person wills how up.

Good question. I liekd how in one of the videos I saw, the spec op went into a corner, cloaked, watch 3 people walk by then knifed them.

Soldiers will be eqipped with an infrared range-finder doohicky. It will spot all troops within a certain radius. If you look at the new screenshots, it's a little handheld device. The cloaking one is blue, and the infrared is, well... red.

Gunna have to say Snipers will and are a good contribution to a squad. They can help the upfront people who are being pinned down by whoever by sniping them out, and/or scatter them from fear.

As for the squad unlocks... He did say that they are trying to make it so that there is more team work. A good way of bribing.

P.S.
---Snipers in squads = Thumbs Up.

P.S.S --- Snipers in squads = one less person taking a spawn point, actively participating, healing, reviving, resupplying, repairing, or laying down cover fire for the other 5 squad members. Thumbs Down...

Sinpers in Lone Wolf Mode FTW

I also agree that snipers are useful part of a squad.
If I'm a SL I always play as sniper, because Im hanging back to keep my spawn point open, taking out enemys attempting to attack my squad mates, sighting tanks an APC's and covering my SM while they take a flag.
A sniper is a very valuable tool for a squad.

A squad leader yes, squad member no.

It's good for squad leader not becasue of the reasons you just mentioned but also because you can directly talk to the commander and request things like a UAV, arty, or supplies.

A regular ol' squad member can't do that, intern he is useless to the squad.
