View Full Version : Commander's fury...

Those of you who have played commander on Battlefield 2 will know thta sometimes, if not most of the times, squads don't listen to you, thus, they nd up losing a flag point due to this. You tell them to defend that flag, attack that flag, attack that enemy or destroy the tank...however! You gt people saying that you're a crap commander, laying artillery down on their faces and not using the UAV properly.

Thus, they should make joining a squad more attractive. The devs are already putting in gun drones to help out squads and respawn beacons. To solve commader problems when they give and order, it should from an objective based mission.

For instance, a commander tells a squad to attack a flag or missile silo, it then starts up an objective, requiring you to capture the flag and kill some enemies. Upon completion, the squad gets extra bonus points for listening to the commander, which will make squad joining more viable.

For destroying vehicles, the same should apply, not only that, but extra points for destroying the tank, as all anti tankers know, the pilot usually hops out to safety. Players or squads who manage to capture flags by themselves and not with vehicle should be rewarded by their achievements by allowing bonus points.

In order to carry out such accomplishments, supply crates should allow nearby players to change kits, but also allowing enemies to utilise it aswell to increase tactical options.

Overall, tactics and strategy could make squads and Bf2142 a lot more fun and strategic, not just running in with a PKM and firing like an idiot. However, there may also be flaws... such as servers where commanders tell their friend who are in both teams to capture one point and the other to capture it again in oder to cheat the system and create more points.:D

With thanks to iiad[- Blade for the ideas. Feel free to add other points.:)

Good thoughts. I like the idea and maybe they have thought about it but as you said, it could be exploited.

Exploits like whoa. It's great in theory, but it's way too likely to be abused. Any time a player has the power to essentially "create" points during a game, it's going to get exploited.

ditto to what hate said.. There are many great ideas iout there but we all know that kids will always find a way around them to get what they cant earn themselves.

I think in BF2142 commanders will have their plate full, moving the Titan around (in that game mode) and offering up vehicles to squads like they're going to add to BF2, who knows what else they might throw in. I don't like bossy commanders, they often will try to send squads clear to the other side of the map like you can grow wings and can fly there. Commanders that use the VOIP to give heads-up on enemy movements goes a lot further to getting the job done.

Being able to change out your load-out in game would be cool but I think they probably would see it as another stab against teamwork and squads working together with combined abilities.

Hmmm... yes, the exploits will be inevitable, just like the pistol and knife servers on BF2 and don't forget the stat padding tactic. Basically, if people are able to afford their own servers then there is an increased chance that they will exploit the loops holes.

This is easily fixed. Give more points to those who complete the objective of the commander. Obviously things like "move here" don't get points, but things like "Take this flag" or "defend this flag" should get some form of inscentive to do so, I think the extra points would compliment this nicely.

put a limit on bonus point perhaps?

I hate when I am commander and I give orders to the squads and then they reply "You got it" and then ignore the orders. I think the squad leaders just press YES to get the message off screen with no intention of following the orders. Not all do this but I have seen a few... Then I saw one commander on my team hanging out in a tank, so I asked him to get out so I could use it and of course he didnt respond so I tossed a grenade near him to get his attention and then he spent the rest of the game TKing me! Awesome!

It's annoying when you commander and everyone just ignore's you. Game's were squads actually listen to you are few and far between.
I also agree with Hate, loser's will exploit any chance they can get to gain extra points so their score looks better:(

But then I wonder, is it really that bad if there are say .. 100 to 150 badass statpadders in the whole online community? Of course you can exploit things, you can exploit pretty much ANYTHING if you give it enough tries. If you try to take out all of the possibilities of exploits, you end up with a wallpaper.
Really nice to look at, but no fun.
(or, for that matter, you end up with bf2 post-1.2 patch).

I think the kit switching thing would be pretty cool, but definitely not by using supply crates, fixed points on the map might be an option. But on the other hand it might be a horrible idea because it takes all the tactics of choosing class out of the game. Then you could just become a sniper to take out that other annoying sniper, switch back to AT to get rid of the tank, and then continue on as assault and play normally. Just doesn't make sense, and in a squad this would be even worse. Imagine: 1 guy dies, 5 other guys immediately switch to medic, then to assault.

I think the objectives thing really IS a good idea. Sure, some people might exploit it, but isn't it up to PB or EA/DICE to detect that kind of behaviour and punish for it? Right now, if they detect some medic with 120 revives in one match, they delete that score. It's just not possible. You could do that same thing for the objectives. Clearing 30+ objectives in 1 round is just not possible, so they could at least LIMIT the amount of points you can create by using that.
