Battlefield 2 works before update

Hi. This is driving me crazy. I recently bought a new pc.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core processor 5200+ 2.61Ghz, 2gb of ram
and a Radeon X1950 512 MB GDDR4

When I instal bf2 with no update, it works fine. But when I update to 1.4 or 1.41 I only see the splash screen and then a black screen, and then I go back to windows, please help.

Might've gotten a bad patch. Try downloading 1.41 patch again. Also, close any and all programs running in the background when you patch.

Have you installed the latest drivers for your x1950?

yep when I installed bf2 it installs/update directx you know.

True, but the DirectX on the cd isn't a actual one......

I got directx, it doesn't start. Besides, it worked before the update.

check the tech FAQ in my sig. also they had something about an AMD dual core fix, but im not sure what exactly it was for.
