Okay so sometimes while I play I get black triangles in terrain and only in the terrain. It's almost like seeing sections blanked out in areas you see when they build terrain with just the outlines first. It has been going on off and on a month or so and I'm wondering how to fix it?

I have been told it's either screwed or over-heating. It never over heated before and in fact ran very cool but it has been in the case without a proper clean for 13 months. Also, since I removed the overclocking feature which I didn't use as I saw no real difference I don't know how to monitor the temperature of it as easily as when I had the overclocking feature activated in my BIOS.

I've blown it out months back with compressed air but it's been awhile so I'll take it out and give it a clean tonight and see if it helps.

If that does not work is there anything else I can try?

The card is 13 months old just now along with the rest of the PC, is that the normal life of a card? I don't think it is but I don't really want to buy another card as it's time for a new machine soon so I see no real point unless I must. :dead:

Lastly, I've never taken out my video card or removed my heatsink, is it difficult and could someone post instructions?

It's happening to me but not on Battlefield 2, i get it on Armed Assault but it works fine for other games. It may be time for you to upgrade :)

Well, taking out your GFX-card isn't difficult..

First, make sure you are static free. Simply hold the tap in the kitchen or something connected to ground..

Alright, remove the sidepanel (cover) off your case. Undo the screw wich holds ur gfx card in a slot at the back of your case.

All gfx cards are locked on the motherboard, make sure while pulling out the card you unlock it by pushing a small pinn at the right end of your pci-e slot..(blue colored) (photo added)

13 Months and no clean sure stressed your card, but I doubt this is a heat issue. Try it, it sure will be better for your rig though. If this doesn't solve anything try updating your nvidia driver. (Link added)

Question, does this happens with all your games?

Report back! good luck..

Actually i just got an Bfg 8800gts 640mb card and ive had the same problem . It happens when i put AA over 4x times for some reason ingame . Same thing used to happen on my old ATI x1900xt 512mb card when i used 6xAA ??? But if i use hardware 8x -16x AA theres no problem . I was allmost ready to take this card back till i did some reading an this has happened before. Oh and my Gpu was at 63c so no heat issues .

might try clearing your bf2 cache, forcing the textures to reload from scratch.

your bits and bytes might be spoiled.

long shot, but you'd be surprised at the problems that clearing the cache has solved for people.

i agree with other posters, though: most likely an artifact due to overheating.

Try turning of Write Combining.

Right click on your desktop and click properties. Go to Settings -> Advanced. In the troubleshoot tab, turn off write combining.

Don't ask me why, but it seems to fix alot of issues like this.

C:\Documents and Settings\xxxx\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

delete the shader cache in this file. delete and re optimize shaders.

camper.

BF2 hates certain anti-aliasing modes, like 6x MSAA. That could be it.

I have a similar issue, maybe the same problem with land textures. Please see the attached jpg. I have tried every suggestion posted so far, (delete cache, turn Write Combining off, and my vid card is clean), but no luck! I do not have this issue with any other game incl. BF2142. I own a Nvidia 8800 GTX.

Any 1 have any more ideas? this is driving me crazy.

Thanks!

A vacume and a paintbrush plus clearing my cache seemed to do the trick so far!

I'll keep you posted!

Thanks boys. :salute:
