It seems as though EA and DICE have learnt their lesson when it comes to the Battlefield series and the problems usually associated shortly after launch. According to an official response located in this forum , both parties will host an open-beta test in August ahead of the series foray into the future in Battlefield 2142.
Hopefully this will provide the test data DICE needs to ensure Battlefield 2142 doesn't suffer from the same release bugs that thwarted Battlefield 2 to some extent, where patches resolved earlier patches and even to this day EA and DICE are working on addressing further bugs.

i didnt know, I saw a thread where the people were all worried about it being open to people that have payed accounts at fileplanet or some ****. Everyone was like OMFG I WILL DIE IF I CANT PLAYYYYYYYYYYYY. And i thought it was cool that they said it'd be open.

If they made you pay to try out the open beta...lets not even get into that. Anyways, I wanna just download it and see what I think about the game. Quake Wars has been delayed, and is basically screwed for no reason. So, everything checks out...good stuff.

Well free is a relative term so far they've only said it'll be an open beta, but think of the bandwidth cost to distribute 50,000 copies of a game, lets see gamespy has ties into Battlefield 2 and fileplanet is part of the gamespy network so yeah I think you’ll have to have a fileplanet subscription probably.

I'm sure that its possible to copy the files onto a disc, or even directly onto a place like filecloud or fileshack, or even gamershell. If they plan to let 20,000 people download this beta within...lets say 4 days, this is going to be a pain...if you do the math, its 5,000 people a day, and about 209 people an hour. Its not too bad...if Fileplant wants to do it alone, however, thats going to be tuff.
